### 3/5 — Has stopped synching to watch

*2026-02-25, version 5.5.0*

Great app but it has stopped synching to my watch, so not useful now as i have other apps that do similar for phone/ipad

### 3/5 — Subscription hasn’t renewed despite taking the money

*2025-11-21, version 5.4.1*

I like the app and the additional features are worth the annual fee for the paid version. But octopus have taken my subscription renewal fee and not renewed my subscription. Neither did they notify me that they have cancelled my subscription. I now have the hassle of finding out who to go to and of sorting this out.

### 2/5 — Great, when it actually updates!

*2025-11-18, version 5.4.1*

The app on the watch will often just stop updating in the background and show you a static WRONG value on the complication, and when you tap into it it will just say “updating…” and never actually update even if the phone app has the current data. DO NOT PAY FOR THIS BROKEN APP

### 4/5 — Currently locks up

*2025-10-16, version 5.4.1*

Was very useful; but this week it freezes on the start up when trying to open. Using iOS 26.0.1

### 2/5 — Doesn’t do anything you can’t get for free. Heavy subscription bias.

*2025-02-22, version 5.3.0*

Downloaded this on a recommendation. Doesn’t do anything that the free octopus apps don’t do already…unless you opt for a subscription. Unless you need the watch functionality. It does do what it promises, but all the levers are for a subscription to really unlock it and get to the really useful functionality. Shame. Would get a refund if I could.

### 3/5 — Lost features since last update

*2024-12-19, version 5.2.0*

I can no longer generate reports, I’ve lost some usage data that was previously available and no live data anymore.
Prior to the update it was a really useful app

### 2/5 — Half of the premium features aren’t there

*2024-04-27, version 5.0.1*

I have spent £10 on the premium subscription for a year. The predicted rates are there but the weather doesn’t show, the watch app hasn’t updated. I have tried restoring purchases as suggested in the FAQ which sadly hasn’t helped.

### 5/5 — Excellent app and support

*2024-04-25, version 5.0.1*

Very useful app (billing, predictive pricing, rates, etc.) and responsive developer support for the (very few) queries I’ve had.

### 5/5 — Love this wonderful app!

*2024-04-20, version 5.0.0*

OctopusWatch just keeps getting better and better! I recommend this app to all my customers and through;y recommend a subscription to get the most out of it. Updated frequently and always bringing new features. I’m honestly not sure what I ever would have done without it!

### 4/5 — Worked flawlessly up to today

*2024-04-19*

Really useful for tracking my spend on a day to day basis. Just upgraded to version 5 today. Was showing as flux import and export in previous version. Now shows flux import and fixed export. Looks like a labelling thing though because all the rate calculations and daily rates are all showing as the flux ones for import and export. Hopefully just a bug. Nice new graphing features though thanks for the update.

**Developer response:** Don’t write reviews for support. Reviews are reviewed by Apple, and then my reply needs to be reviewed by Apple, often leading to multi-day turnaround. Others already got in touch relating to this issue and the update (5.0.1) to fix the issue with the export label is already out for a few days by the time you’ll likely get this reply.

### 5/5 — Well I’m Not surprised this is so high in the charts…

*2024-04-07*

Fantastic app well laid out provides information in a clear user-friendly way with fantastic explanations and a brilliant wiki to explain everything. The app works really well on both the iPhone and the watch.

I’ve looked at and tried other apps to manage my Octopus agile account and this is by far the most informative and easy to use it’s clear and provide data that regularly updates and is both informative and useful to manage energy usage.

It’s great how it shows you how much you’re saving.

Support is unbelievable I asked a question on a Sunday night and had a response immediately. Helpful support and really interested in my question and answered it brilliantly. This is clearly software that is being well supported with genuine care. Was so impressed I immediately went for the subscription model which I think is a fair price for what you get.

Overall very happy with this software works well on both iPhone and watch. Thank you

### 4/5 — Really good

*2024-03-31, version 4.6.2*

This app is so much nicer to use than some of the alternatives which have messy interfaces and confusing graphs.

There is only one feature missing that is in an alternative app. The ability for me to manually mark a half hour window as being a Intelegent Octopus charge spot so that the pricing shown in the app is accurate. With that it would get 5 stars!

### 5/5 — Rates not updating

*2024-03-29, version 4.6.2*

On the rates tab the graph updates about 4pm but the next 24 hour rates list does not. It stays on estimated until about 9-10pm. Any ideas? I am a subscriber for 48 hour predictions.

### 2/5 — Detailed reporting not working

*2024-03-27, version 4.6.2*

Would normally give this a 5 star rating but since I renewed the detailed reporting section doesn’t work anymore. If I tap on a day nothing happens. I can toggle on £/% setting but that’s it. Used to get detailed report but now broke. Needs fixing quickly.

### 3/5 — Hmmm….

*2024-03-04*

Nice little app, and didn’t mind paying £1.99 for its basic content, I hesitated at subscription until I understood the content Within 48 hours I started to identify a few basic features missing, whilst I’m sure there will be development going on, the fact that I was not able to enter my Octopus kw price in the app to give the relative savings was a bit annoying ( I was on fixed ) which was not the default kw price the savings were relating to

And is the average kw price’ you have paid for that days electricity 🤔 , correct ? , there is a figure at the end of the column but it doesn’t appear to tie up with the kw used and the price paid on the day

And why is there no way of contacting the developer ? Have I missed something again ?

**Developer response:** I’m right here, and you can always reach out at contact@smarthound.uk as outlined on the product and the wiki. You cannot set your own kWh price and this feature is never coming. It is a feature with little use when prices change continuously. As for average kWh per day this a weighted average which means it is the p/kWh you paid, not the average p/kWh of the tariff. For example, a tariff that is 5p/kWh for 4 hours and 20p/kWh for 20 hours would have an average of 17.5p/kWh. However, that is not your average. If you used all your electricity during the cheapest hours then your average would be 5p/kWh. This weighted average gives a fair and accurate average for any smart tariff that can readily be compared with dumb tariffs.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Waste of money

*2025-10-18, version 5.4.1*

Well worded to get you to buy the app but doesn’t work on any ev plans or show smart slots you also have to pay to download the app then asked to subscription soon as api is entered little shady but October aid wipes the flow with it for stats.

### 1/5 — Paid subscription

*2025-05-14, version 5.3.2*

Having upgraded to paid subscription I do not see any extra features. Am I missing something.

### 1/5 — Apple Watch app

*2025-03-04, version 5.3.0*

The Apple Watch app should just talk with the phone app to get the API/account details. Still haven’t been able to successfully enter the long API key on the watch! FFS. WASTE OF £2!

### 1/5 — Rates not accurate

*2024-12-13, version 5.2.0*

The rates are not accurate. It shows on this APP that the rate at 8am is 44.08p. When checking the with Octopus Agile API directly, the rate for that period is my location (G) is 42.07p.

### 1/5 — Don't bother with basic version if you've got intelligent octopus-avoid

*2024-09-14, version 5.1.3*

Whilst I'm sure the subscription version is great I have to say im really disappointed in paying £1.99 for the basic version which tells me nothing more than I can get from octopus themselves.

I just can't recommend sorry and feel I've wasted my money.

So having wasted my money that's why I've entitled my review to warn others more clearly up front that it won't work for intelligent octopus.

The screen shots on the app store are misleading you into thinking you'll get a load of brightly coloured graphics. The reality is all you'll get is a basic page showing very little.

So, the developer has my£1.99 meanwhile I am no further forward!

### 1/5 — Too temperamental

*2023-12-12, version 4.6.2*

Paid and subscribed after reading positive reviews, lack of clear instructions and didn’t show tariff I was after after initial setup and could find no way to easily reset and start again so deleted and downloaded again but then found out it wouldn’t find ‘restore my initial purchase’ know it was only £1.99 but it’s the principle!! Have deleted app and requested refund from Apple now.

### 1/5 — ☹️

*2023-10-15, version 4.4.3*

Not the developers fault, but useless if you’re on the Intelligent Go tariff.

### 1/5 — Waste of money unless you are on Agile

*2023-08-12, version 4.4.1*

Tbh I thought this app would give me greater insight into my Octopus Energy account, I am on Go. The basic app simply tells you what you already know, what you are paying and when. They say there’s an infographic, but this doesn’t seem to be available in the basic package. Perhaps these things come with a subscription, but I see no advantage to doing so currently.

### 1/5 — Not very useful for me

*2023-07-04, version 4.3.3*

I don’t see anything in this app that I’m not already able to do myself using the Octopus API in Home Assistant and Node RED. It’s a shame I had to pay £1.99 to discover this.

### 1/5 — A bit crap really

*2023-06-21, version 4.3.2*

Doesn’t show Agile Export, very poor.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Feedback on excellent app

*2025-12-24*

This is by far one of the best apps I’ve ever used and I’ve been an IT all my life? I think the depths of understanding and effort to get as much useful data and information about real energy costs and usage to help the user to understand their energy costs and the best way to use them is tremendous. The extras for subscription far from essential are still worth it. I have one small suggestion though, I’m trying to reduce my notifications across the board and as subscriber I can have notifications when the price of electricity drops below a certain threshold which is great. But I believe this toggle also turns on notifications every day of when new rates are available. for me this is just noise and I only want the threshold notifications so separating out the two would just make the app very slightly nicer as if it could be - thanks

**Developer response:** Sorry for the delay in getting back on this (reviews can be slow, sorry). For support or feature requests send an email straight to contact@smarthound.uk and I will often get back to you within minutes. The way you describe it is how it should work: you set the toggle for e.g. 15p, and notifications should only be sent out when rates for the next day actually drop below this rate. Do check that it is set up as such. If it is, and you are still getting a notification every day even when rates do not drop below that value, then do reach out to me!

### 5/5 — The data stopped

*2025-11-03, version 5.4.1*

I can’t praise the developer enough not only is the information useful and much much easier to understand than the raw data from Octopus but Kim was very helpful when I had a problem with data coming from Octopus

### 5/5 — Account switching

*2025-10-30, version 5.4.1*

Love the app and it continues to get better. Like many I have two properties with Octopus accounts and it would be great if there was an easy way to switch between Octopus Accounts / Properties.

### 5/5 — Brilliant app

*2025-09-14, version 5.4.1*

Really useful and comprehensive information but the Upcoming Rates Chart would be improved immeasurably if there were times shown along the x-axis. The 4 hour shading is good but not much use without some time numbers shown.

### 5/5 — Excellent App

*2025-09-12*

Appreciate the time and effort that has been put into developing this app. The comparison allowed me to select the best available deal and switch accordingly. I find the daily table really helpful to quickly see costs over the period.

The free electricity periods offered by Octopus skew my stats. I was wondering whether these could either be captured in the app, or the ability to enter the free period such that the calculations can be adjusted and keep the stats in line with billing?

### 5/5 — Bit stuck though

*2025-01-16*

Have been using app for past 6 months and find it very helpful. However in the past week, it tells me it is waiting for data yet the data is there on the octopus energy app. Can’t find any way of sorting this and loathe to delete app and start again for fear of losing data. Can’t see how to contact anyone apart from the review form. Help please someone.

### 5/5 — Battery Charging Slot Identification

*2024-12-22*

The App is very easy to use. On the front screen you have a slider to find the best time to run an appliance by inputting the duration that the appliance will run for. This is useful for determining the best time to run something like a dishwasher. This also works for battery storage where the run period may not be continuous . IE my battery might require 10 kWh of overnight charging to get to the desired charge level for the next day. I would be looking for the best slots to achieve that. Having them highlighted is very useful for setting the timer on my inverter. This functionality would probably be useful for many people using the Agile tariff. It might be useful to have a toggle switch to identify if the period specified needs to be continuous.
This has rapidly become a “go to” resource so I will be switching to the annual plan.
The tariff forecast is a good indicator of what rates are forthcoming.

### 5/5 — Excellent

*2024-11-15, version 5.2.0*

Been using this app for a couple of years. Its well thought out and presented. Genuinely useful.

App calculates the cheapest time to run appliances. Shows usage at various levels and makes it easy to see the effect of any changes in the pattern of use.

### 5/5 — Great App and super helpful developer

*2024-09-27, version 5.1.3*

A must have for Octopus Agile users. And when I had an issue with the data (my fault) the developer contacted me with how to fix it easily within an hour of me asking the question!

### 5/5 — Was great and is now great again

*2024-07-04, version 5.0.3*

This was great until about a week ago. It no longer shows me the cheapest slots. It shows slots, but when I check them they are not the cheapest. Help please developers! Developers responded and it was user error. Review updated.
