Won’t open

Tried downloading but trying to open it it crashes and won’t open, what we doing wrong.

Response from developer

Hey there, What bad luck! You downloaded v4.0.1 which had a serious bug in it. You’ll find the current version all fixed and much more to your liking. I’m afraid sometimes bugs get through, especially for apps made in one person’s free time. I got this one squashed very quickly thanks to lots of helpful users who emailed me. You can always report problems to support@octoscope.app.

Pointless

This app is ok I guess, but I really could not find a point to it. I had hoped it world be able to give a clear indication as to which tariff would be cheaper for me, but the information it provides is too basic to be useful - disappointingly there is no accounting for shifting load to a different tariff’s cheaper times so the advice it gives is useless.

Response from developer

Hi there, thank you for your feedback. I understand that load shift prediction during tariff comparison is important to you, and that specific feature is something I’ve deliberately not built in Octoscope. I understand you’ve bounced off the app, and hope you’ve found another tool for this job. If you’re interested to understand why, please read on. As a developer, I could analyse electricity patterns and make a good guess at categorising usage (e.g. EV charging, washing, cooking etc). I could then make assumptions about load shift potential and predict what a new tariff may cost a user, were they to make specific load shifting adjustments. I understand this is the feature you’re looking for. The problem for me is that requires a bunch of technological and lifestyle assumptions that would be wrong a lot of the time. The last thing I want is to encourage a tariff switch based on a modelled cost that may not be achievable in practice: that’s bad financial advice. Only my users know how much load they can really shift, so Octoscope answers a limited but precise question: “what would this tariff have cost you, based on how you actually used energy?” Rob

Beautifully crafted

A case study in how to present information with maximum clarity and appeal.

Response from developer

Thanks Rob ☀️

Response from developer

Thank you for the kind review! I’m glad you find the app so helpful. Rob.

App Doesn’t Work

I’ve had the app for 3 days now and connected the API. The data isn’t loading from my account and the API call is timing out.

Response from developer

Hi there, I can re-assure you the app does work, as hundreds of happy daily users can attest! If you’re having repeated issues, contact me via in-app support and we’ll get it sorted. Remember to check your network and report the errors Octoscope is showing you - Octoscope will never tell you there’s a timeout, it will always give you something more helpful. Thanks, Rob.
