I’m wondering if there’s any reason why NY Lottery cannot hire the developers who created great apps for other state lotteries in states like Florida, etc.? Their scanners work flawlessly and quickly. I’m starting to wonder if that’s done on purpose..?! Maybe they just don’t want you to be able to check your tickets easily hoping that you won’t cash them! Most of NY lottery ticket scanners available in most kiosks and stores where you purchase lottery tickets are often equally terrible or don’t work at all. Oh and please stop making the app ask me to allow notifications literally EVERY time I open it. I would not trust them with my parking spot number, forget all that personal information. There’s no way I would ever do that so that means impossible to scan the ticket at home. You don’t need to give info at the store to scan so it’s crazy stupid for those that give this info in the app. If you are close to NJ, I would rather give my business to states that don’t request that information. Plus if you are lucky enough to win a jackpot, the dual benefit of buying in NJ is that you can stay anonymous unlike NY. Pointless app, and a complete overreach with sensitive personal information for a simple ticket scanner that barely works. Whoever is in charge of this app is completely detached from reality. ### 1/5 — Such A Bad State Lottery App *2026-02-20, version 4.2.5* Every time I wish to scan my scratch off tickets I must manually enter the information. This app will not allow me to simply use the camera to scan. I have uninstalled the app and then tried reinstalling, checked my camera settings to make sure I was allowing the app access to the app and nothing seems to allow me to scan the tickets. You would think with all the money that New York Lottery is taking in they would definitely design an app that works as it should! I found out that it scans easier with newer phones. If you have an old model phone like my iPhone 11 max pro then you have to put the flash on and put 2x camera zoom & it will scan. But what I hate the most is the wheel to have a chance to win something. More than $1k & not even 5 bucks. I just want to check my tickets, the app won’t let you access that without every sensitive identifier possible. Then insists that you sign over use to them. Honestly it’s so intrusive it seems like a scam. Contrast that to using a scanner at a store which requires no personal information even if you win. NYS is abusive, this app is just a small example of that.
