## What is OffTrail?

OffTrail is offline-first GPX navigation built for adventure motorcyclists, 4×4s, SSV/UTV, and overland riders. No ads. No tracking. The app respects your time and your battery; you respect the trail.

Just load a track and ride.

CORE FLOW
• Drop a GPX file from Files, AirDrop, email, or any iOS share sheet.
• The app pre-caches the area around the track over Wi-Fi, so you stay covered when the signal drops.
• Tap Ride. A clean, redesigned heads-up display — course-up by default, the rider anchored low, the route always visible, the screen awake. Recording starts itself.
• Wander off the track and the centre of the screen warns you in red — the distance back, with a line to the closest re-entry point — and flags a wrong-way if you turn around.

TURN-BY-TURN NAVIGATION
While you follow a track, OffTrail calls your turns — an arrow and the distance to the next one, right on the ride screen, plus the turn after it. It works on your phone from the track itself, so it doesn’t need a data connection.

CARPLAY
• The map on the head unit: your position, your tracks and the road ahead, with the zoom following your speed.
• Turn cards and arrival time drawn by the car itself, in the place your car shows them.
• Your garage, search, points of interest and recent destinations, all on the car’s own lists — pick a track and set off without touching the phone.
• Spoken directions, including while you follow a track and not just a calculated route. Mute them from the map’s own button.
• Downloaded countries work in the car with no signal, exactly as they do on the phone.
• Start a ride on the phone and it opens on the car; the phone then shows the list of turns.

ROUTES TO ANYWHERE
No track? “Track to” builds an off-road route from where you stand to any point you pick — or a circular loop of roughly 50, 100 or 150 km that brings you back where you started. Every route shows its off-road vs on-road split up front.

UP TO FIVE TRACKS AT ONCE
Stack five GPX tracks on the map, each in its own slot colour. Hide one, swap one in, or ride them all. The HUD locks onto the nearest track, with hysteresis so it doesn’t flicker on parallel routes.

OFFLINE-FIRST MAPS
• Download whole countries — Portugal, Spain, the USA, Australia and more — before you leave. Each shows its disk size and current usage, so you can manage storage without leaving the app.
• OffTrail’s own off-road basemap: forestry tracks, paths, trails and the ridable network rendered front and centre, not buried under the urban street grid.
• Optional Satellite (Esri World Imagery, online-only). Auto-falls back to the off-road map when the network drops.

GROUP RIDE (OPT-IN)
Lead a ride? Share a short session code; riders join, and everyone shows up live on the map in real time. The group stays in sync, riders hold their spot through a signal drop, and the session ends cleanly at its set time or when the host leaves. Up to 15 riders. Ride solo and nothing is shared at all.

RECORDING
Recording auto-starts when you open the app and survives screen lock — or start a clean, named recording yourself with Record mode, dropping waypoints as you go. GPX out at the end. The last 30 days live on your phone.

SETTINGS THAT RESPECT YOU
Metric/imperial. Three languages (EN / PT / ES). Rider display name. Pair a handlebar remote and keep your hands on the bars. Storage summary that lets you wipe recordings without nuking the app.

PRIVACY
Your riding data stays on your phone. The only data that ever leaves the device is opt-in: anonymous usage and crash statistics, live location during a Group ride session (over OffTrail’s own servers), and basemap and routing requests when you have a network connection. Read the full privacy policy at offtrailapp.com/privacy.

FREE
OffTrail is free. Built by a rider, for riders.

REQUIREMENTS
• iPhone running iOS 16 or later
• A CarPlay-equipped vehicle for the in-car experience
• Wi-Fi or cellular for downloading offline maps and using Group ride

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.24.2 — 2026-08-09

OffTrail now runs on CarPlay. Your tracks and your position on the car’s screen, turn-by-turn guidance drawn by the car, and voice that speaks up whether you’re following a planned route or a track you loaded. Your garage, search, points of interest and recent destinations are all on the head unit, so the phone can stay in your pocket. The map goes dark with the car’s own day/night sensor, and downloaded countries keep working with no signal.

### 1.22.2 — 2026-07-29

• Voice guidance is here: spoken turn-by-turn announcements during road navigation, in your language, with distance-aware prompts and an arrival announcement. Toggle it in Settings or right from the navigation quick-settings card.
• Plus small fixes and refinements.

### 1.22.0 — 2026-07-22

- All-new Files screen: collections to organise your tracks, starred favourites (those are the ones on the map), the same preview everywhere and a clearer import.

### 1.21.0 — 2026-07-14

New "Off Road Contrast" basemap — a high-contrast off-road map that colours trails by difficulty (green easy, brown moderate, red hard), with black singletrack, pink footpaths, purple cycle routes and legible road names. Seamless offline map borders: a downloaded country no longer shows a blank strip at its frontier. Plus map and offline reliability fixes.

### 1.20.5 — 2026-07-09

Road navigation, done properly — plus a new map-first home.

• Road navigation with voice. Search a destination and get a road route with spoken turn-by-turn directions — roundabouts, keep left or right — plus clear guidance if you drift off the route.
• Search for places. Find towns, fuel, food, viewpoints and natural features, with smarter results that understand what you mean and rank by what's relevant and within reach.
• A new map-first home. Explore opens straight on the map: load a track and ride, switch between Off-road and Road, and set Home and Work for one-tap routes.
• Smoother live position. A rebuilt, fluid dot that keeps pace with you through corners, with a steadier heading.
• Made for tablets. On a tablet the whole app lives in a comfortable column with the map right beside it.

Plus wider device support and a round of battery, stability and performance fixes.
