## What is Ohms Sample?

Ohms Sample turns any sound into a touch instrument and a generative loom. It is native on macOS and iPadOS, with all audio kept on your device.

ONE PLAYABLE SURFACE
* Orbit, Pulse steps, Mutation gestures, trigger pads, and a collapsible snapshot bank share one large instrument view; only Take opens a separate workspace.
* Reweave sits beside transport and redraws the visible routes as it changes them.
* Choose System, Light, or Dark appearance.

PLAY AND EDIT
* Slicer taps the waveform; Looper compresses a two-finger loop into grain; Tape scrubs speed and direction; Keyboard plays one slice chromatically.
* Scroll and zoom the PCM-derived Sample Canvas from 1× to 8×.
* Select a range, cut it or keep only it, reverse it, and apply pitch-preserving stretch from 50% to 200%.
* Restore the untouched source at any time.
* Detect and drag up to 16 transient-aware slices, with tune, volume, pan, attack, release, reverse, and loop per slice.

WEAVE THE ORBIT
* Draw weighted routes between the sample's circular slice arcs.
* A seeded engine walks those weights while the live playhead makes every choice visible.
* Run a 1–64 step Pulse lane, each step with its own openness.
* Arm four weighted Mutation gestures per slice: stutter, reverse, speed, and scratch.
* Morph across a 3×4 snapshot bank and punch in with four manual trigger pads.

GRAIN AND EFFECTS
* A preallocated native Swift engine renders up to 128 grain voices with position, size, density, pitch, jitter, reverse probability, and stereo spread.
* Add resonant low-pass or high-pass filtering, feedback delay, and reverb.

KEYBOARD AND MIDI
* On Mac, A–P play the sixteen pads unless Sample Brain search is explicitly focused.
* Generic MIDI controllers can use notes 36–51 or 60–75 for pads and 52–55 for triggers.
* Learn CCs for grain, FX, and morph controls; receive and send MIDI clock; use virtual ports; and echo Orbit decisions as notes.

LAUNCHPAD HARDWARE
* Launchpad Mini MK3, X, and Pro MK3 get sixteen large 2×2 color blocks on Pads, plus focused Weave, Pulse, and Memory pages.
* The on-screen mirror and hardware LEDs use the same direct visual language.

CAPTURE SAFELY AND SEARCH LOCALLY
* File and folder controls open system pickers. Sample Brain indexes any number of chosen folders for local search.
* Microphone capture is armed only in Take. Finished audio stays staged beside the loaded sample until you choose Use Recording or Keep Current.
* On macOS, Sample Anything can freeze the last 60 seconds of system audio from an in-memory buffer — audio only, never screen frames — with the same staged decision.

EXPORT, SESSIONS, AND AUv3
* Export the edited audio as WAV, or save sample, slices, weave, mutations, snapshots, FX, and grain as a session.
* The full generative engine and insert FX run sample-accurately in a macOS and iPadOS AUv3 instrument with 23 automatable parameters and host-saved state. Each instance keeps its own sample and can follow host tempo.
* The AUv3 requests no microphone, file, screen-capture, or network access.

PRIVATE BY CONSTRUCTION
* No account, analytics, telemetry, advertising, cloud, or network calls.
* No subscription or in-app purchase. $29.99 once for macOS and iPadOS as a universal purchase.

REQUIREMENTS
* macOS 14 or later, or iPadOS 17 or later. Sample Anything is macOS-only; microphone recording works on both.

### 5/5 — Brilliant

*2026-08-14*

This reminds me of some of my favorite iPad apps combined: tc-11, Sector, Spacecraft and Samplr. The best part is the midi controller integration, my novation launchpad x turns into a beautiful lightshow, much easier to play it that way than on the interface. Absolutely essential for serious iOS musicians and creatives

**Developer response:** That is good company to be put in, thank you. The Launchpad mapping took a long time to get right, so it is genuinely satisfying to hear it has become the way you would rather play. Everything runs on the device itself, with no account and no network in the loop — that is the other half of the design.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.5.1 — 2026-08-21

Reusable recipes: save a sampler setup — slices, weave, triggers, rate, FX, grain, and per-slice voices — as an audio-free .ohmsrecipe file, and apply it to any loaded sound as one undoable change. Recipes live in a local library with rename, duplicate, import, and export, move between Mac and iPad as small files, and persist inside AUv3 host projects. Recipes never contain audio or sample identity, and everything stays on your device.

Also in this release: the recipe library is included in backups, clearer error messages inside the library, and small layout fixes on iPad.

### 1.4.0 — 2026-08-15

Play, Orbit, Pulse steps, Mutation controls, and pads now share one larger instrument surface. Snapshots start collapsed at the bottom, and Reweave beside transport redraws the visible routes as it changes them.

The new Sample Canvas scrolls and zooms from 1× to 8×. Select a range to cut it, keep only it, reverse it, or apply pitch-preserving time stretch; Restore Source always returns to the untouched audio.

Generic MIDI accepts pad banks at notes 36–51 and 60–75, while Launchpad Pads mode uses sixteen large 2×2 color blocks.

File and folder controls now open system pickers. Capture is armed only in Take, asks for confirmation, and stages finished audio beside the current sample until you choose what to keep. System, Light, and Dark appearances are available throughout.

### 1.3.0 — 2026-08-14

Samples played about a third of a semitone flat against everything else. Ohms Sample now starts at concert A = 440 Hz, with A = 432 Hz kept as a one-tap preset, and exported WAV files carry the true rate of what you hear.

Sample Brain indexes more than one folder at a time and shows each sample's tempo in the library, and MIDI settings are now reachable on iPad.

Two plug-in instances no longer share one sample: each AUv3 instance remembers its own, and can opt in to follow the host's tempo. Stopping a pad no longer clicks, and an import that cannot be read now says so instead of failing quietly.

### 1.2.0 — 2026-08-08

Ohms Sample 1.2 — sound where there was silence.

FIXED
• The instrument now claims a playback audio session. It stays audible when your iPad is muted from Control Center, and it comes back after Siri, a call, or another app takes the audio session away.
• Recording the microphone no longer leaves the sampler silent afterwards — the shared audio session is handed back to playback instead of being switched off underneath it — and recording no longer drops AirPods to mono.
• Export WAV, Save Session, Export Take MIDI, Render Take WAV, and Open Session now open a file panel. In 1.1 those buttons ran but no panel ever appeared.
• The pads no longer go permanently silent after an audio interruption or route change; every voice re-arms on its next hit.
• Starting a recording with no usable audio input now explains itself instead of failing hard.

Everything still runs entirely on your iPad. No account, no network, no telemetry.
