It’s amazing how it could have received such raving reviews, this is the most boring game I’ve ever played. Furthermore, it froze up on me halfway through. Total waste of time.

Ich mochte den Vibe, aber am Ende war mir die Story zu schlicht und die Rätsel ein zu triviales rumgeschiebe. Der Ansatz war schön, aber, wie die Kids heute sagen „is nich so deep“. Da geht beim Studio aber bestimmt noch mehr 🤔

It was really pretty to look at. It was a lovely story and it did not end as I expected it to. I really enjoyed that. I didn’t give it full stars because some of the navigating was very awkward, but I guess that’s the part of figuring it out. I would do another game from these folks absolutely.

Old Man's Journey+ est une expérience immersive qui nous plonge dans un conte silencieux. L'histoire ne passe pas par les dialogues, mais par la richesse des paysages, la douceur des musiques et les souvenirs du héros. L'absence d'indications strictes sur les niveaux rend ce jeu particulièrement agréable, notamment pour une personne ayant un profil TDAH.
Grâce à cette absence de consignes rigides, j'ai pu prendre mon temps et explorer l'univers sans aucun stress. Découvert sur TikTok, ce jeu offre une parenthèse de quelques heures vraiment appréciable. C'est une belle réussite de la part des développeurs pour l'accessibilité et le bien-être du joueur.

A very simple story paired with a very simple gameplay mechanic well-suited for tablets. The art and music are lovely, but as short as Old Man’s Journey is, it still manages to slightly overstay its welcome. It’s just too slight a story with a very predictable payoff that simply isn’t well served by what becomes tediously repetitive gameplay. As short as this is, it could stand to be a trifle shorter.

Allen voran, die Illustrationen und die erschaffene Welt sind wirklich schön! ABER das Gameplay war für mich sehr mühsam, ein paar Hilfen zum Reinkommen, wie man die Berge verschiebt, wären gut und es bleibt die ganze Zeit gleich, besteht im Prinzip nur daraus, was es auf Dauer langweilig und frustrierend für mich gemacht hat. Was mich aber wütend macht ist die Story und da wundert es mich auch nicht, dass das Spiel hauptsächlich von Männern ist: Ein Mann verlässt Frau (die nur toll dargestellt wird, solange er sie genügsam findet) und kleines Kind, um zu Segeln, merkt dann, dass ihn dies nicht glücklich macht und zieht in die Isolation. Er konnte/wollte die zurückgelassene Familie anscheinend nicht aufsuchen, diese erreicht ihn jedoch Jahrzehnte später per Brief (konnte demnach nicht so schwer sein). Als er ankommt, vergeben Frau und Kind ihm ohne weiteres (klar) und die Tochter ist „einfach froh“, dass er wieder da ist und am Ende mit ihrem Kind segelt.
Demnach sollen wir Mitleid mit Männern haben, die Familien verlassen, Frauen alleinerziehend und Kinder vaterlos machen, um dann zu verzeihen und sie einfach so wieder in unser Leben zu lassen… ne danke

In deiner Nacherzählung fehlt mir eine wichtige Erinnerung des alten Mannes, die, wie ich hoffe, die Deutung der Geschichte doch anders machen wird:
Nachdem ihn seine Weltreise unglücklich macht und er (frühzeitig) abbricht, will er schon zu seiner Familie zurück. Er steht dann im Regen vor dem verlassenen und zum Verkauf angebotenen Haus. Seine Familie hat nicht auf ihn gewartet sondern auf Grund seiner Entscheidungen, entschieden ihr Leben ohne ihn weiterzuleben. In unserer Vorstellung war dieses Leben (ohne den Mann) schlussendlich gut und erfüllt, wir haben versucht das über die Fotos am Sterbebett der Frau darzustellen. Sein Rückzug in die Isolation war also nicht freiwillig.
Schlussendlich ist es auf jeden Fall eine Geschichte über einen Menschen der Fehler gemacht hat und Wiedergutmachung sucht. Das passiert im Leben. Wer und auch wie diese verzeiht ist natürlich schlussendlich jedem und jeder selbst überlassen.
Unsere Geschichte hat dich offensichtlich berührt, bis jetzt leider eher negativ. Das ist natürlich schade aber auch ok. Wir alle erleben und sehen die Welt anders, Old Mans Journey ist eine Geschichte die uns 2017 nahe und wichtig war. Das muss sie natürlich nicht für andere sein. Wenn unsere Spiele zum Nachdenken anregen, und dazu übers Leben zu reden, haben wir unser Ziel erreicht. Nochmals Danke fürs Spielen!

No instructions, no intuitive game play, just annoying and frustrating pretty much immediately. The art is beautiful and someone obviously worked very hard on this, but did not listen to other people telling them "this doesn't make any sense". Sorry.

**Developer response:** Sorry to hear you are having issues with our game. We wanted to create an experience that is holding back on instructions so that the narrative could shine more. This is why there is minimal tutorialisation and no dialogue. We understand that this doesn't work for everyone. I game frequently so am not a newbie, haven’t been able to make it past the part with the hills and the young boy throwing paper planes out the front door. There’s zero instruction or walkthrough of how to get past this, and can’t seem to move from this one area!!

I thought this may be different from other games I've played in the Arcade. Boy, was I right! I couldn't get the Old Man past the first panel no matter what strategy I used. The paths showed correctly, the staff placed where I wanted him to go but he only got as far as the tree before the "restaurant" (?), took off his pack, sat down and that was it...no more movement. Had to start from the beginning again. I had high hopes but was sorely disappointed. Cannot recommend this game at all. One star is one too many!

At absolutely no point during this experience could I describe it as enjoyable. Calling it a game is a bit of a stretch. The only challenge in this ‘game’ is the awful level design and absolutely clunky execution. Trying to work out what on earth you are supposed to do is not a game, it’s poor design. From almost the beginning, I could not wait for it to be over. I do not know why I persevered to the end but I regret doing so. Every second I spent on this feels wasted. At the end I could only wish a speedy end to all the characters and the people who made this awful insult to games.

This game should not be called Old Man's Journey, it should be called Old Man's hypochondriasis. 
The whole theme is a typical patriarchal narrative framework, betrayal and confession are men's unique skills. Men want this also men want that, and finally they can get. 
In the imaginary world, men can unapologetedly break the promise of marriage to chase their dreams, abandon their wives and daughters, regardless of the consequences, repent and regret all the way, and finally get forgiveness. 
In the real world, when the daughter sees him, she will tie him to that stupid sailboat and send him to the sea. Do You want dream and freedom? Go chase it!

This game had me hooked. I loved how there were literally no instructions, it really makes you figure it all out. I wish it was longer though & I think it would be amazing if the game had more than one story.  Overall I absolutely loved it & the story it told was so bittersweet.
