### 3/5 — So much to love but not quite there

*2026-05-16*

The AI meal planning and customization features are genuinely great. The ability to modify meals on the fly is the kind of thing that makes you wonder why other apps haven’t done it yet.
The grocery list is where things fall apart. A few specific issues:
	•	Old meals linger in your list and have to be manually deleted, which takes the app several minutes to process (took me 15 min to delete last weeks list so I could add this week’s groceries).
	•	while grocery shopping, it’ll show quantities in cups, oz, etc instead of item count. So 2.5 cups bell pepper instead of number of bell peppers. Also, manually added items you’ve crossed off don’t clear
	•	Adding a meal later repopulates everything you’ve already checked off

If you grocery shop with your partner while they’re using the same list on their phone, you have to refresh the list constantly to see their updates.

While grocery shopping, the items you mark off drop to the bottom of that category but stay in the list so scrolling through it is pretty annoying.

The AI also has a hard time remembering preferences and incorporating them all in your next week’s meal even if they’re in your preference list. Seems like persistent memory is hit or miss.

Overall, the bones are there but it’s still working on the kinks.

AnyList has the best grocery shopping experience I’ve seen. And Ollie has the best meal creation part.

### 2/5 — Struggles with calories

*2026-02-14, version 1.0.102*

I have told Ollie multiple times that my servings need to be under 600 cal. Sometimes it does that. But too often the calories are higher. When I tell it to make adjustments to get it lower, it claims that it has done so, when in fact the calories still show as higher.

### 4/5 — Love the app. Suggestion to put it over the top.

*2026-02-05, version 1.0.101*

Love the app, but it desperately needs a personal notes field on recipes for ingredient swaps and cooking adjustments.”
This would significantly improve usability for repeat cooks and long-term users.”

### 4/5 — Life Changer!

*2026-01-15*

Before using Ollie, it would always be a battle trying to figure out what was for dinner. But Ollie takes that problem away! The recipes are delicious, easy to follow, and made me enjoy cooking again! I only gave it 4 stars because they went to a paid subscription and unfortunately now I am unable to get into the app at all to see any of the over 250 recipes I used. I understand not continuing to use the meal plan suggestions but at least give us access to what we already saved.

### 5/5 — AMAZING

*2026-01-14, version 1.0.96*

The best app ever!!! Really helps me with my meal prepping and my preferred food choices. So glad I found this app. Does making my shopping so much easier too. It has all the ingredients in a list and how much you need!

### 5/5 — Ollie AI

*2026-01-14, version 1.0.96*

I love this app and use it daily. It follows my preferences of foods and calorie count. I can even ask for a substitution and it will change the recipe for me. It is very personalized. This is great for families!

### 5/5 — Great meal planning app

*2026-01-14*

We are a busy family with both parents working and two young kids. I was feeling unmotivated to cook because finding recipes and creating a grocery list is so time consuming. I was getting tired of spending so much on takeout, so I downloaded Ollie. I appreciates the recipes are tailored to my needs and that it creates a grocery list for me. The recipes do take longer to make than the app says (or maybe I’m just not efficient in the kitchen), but so far I’ve made 11 meals from Ollie in the last few months, which is an achievement for me. I usually double the portions (and the app adjusts the ingredient list for me). I’m very happy with the app as a resource to take some of the work out of meal planning.

### 4/5 — Helpful

*2026-01-14, version 1.0.96*

I have loved using this app it has helped many nights when I couldn’t think of anything for dinner. I will say I’m a little sad because I started using it before they required a subscription which was even better but from a company standpoint I can understand why they need to charge.

### 5/5 — Super helpful!

*2026-01-14, version 1.0.96*

This app has saved many hours and headaches of trying to plan out meals. It definitely still has some kinks to work out but overall it has been so helpful and such a game changer.

### 5/5 — Ollie AI

*2026-01-10, version 1.0.95*

I found this app while looking for something to help me consolidate all the information on the web dealing with nutrition. This was an answer to my prayers!! So easy and helpful. Just put in your dietary needs and it will create recipes accordingly. You can modify them if you don’t have the equipment or ingredients AND talk to Ollie AI like he is your best friend!! Love, love, love this app!!

### 5/5 — AMAZING

The best app ever!!! Really helps me with my meal prepping and my preferred food choices. So glad I found this app.

### 5/5 — Great for busy families !

*2025-12-11, version 1.0.92*

This is a great meal planning app for busy families. Recipes are good and you can create menus based on your family’s preferences.

### 5/5 — Best for lazy cooks

*2025-11-11*

I tried Home Chef, Dinnerly, and another meal delivery service. It taught me that I can cook and I like I variety of food. But the food quality wasn’t good and the price was getting too high. I wanted something that made it easy to cook. I didn’t want to do a lot of prep of meal planning and grocery shopping and ensuring I had everything I needed to cook some recipe that I didn’t want to search for. This solved all my problems.

You tell it how many meals you want for the week, divided into breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I’ve only done the dinners, so I can’t speak for the other meals. You tell it what you don’t like and it doesn’t include meals with those ingredients. If you don’t like a meal it suggests you can replace it. If you want to use an ingredient, it’ll find a recipe.

It then creates a shopping list for you. Before I go shopping I check to see what I have and remove it from the list. You can have instacart or whatever shop for you from the app, or you can go yourself. The list is divided into sections much like a grocery store so you’re not bouncing all over.

The recipes are pretty well written and presented in a straightforward and orderly way. Most have the amount of ingredients in the instructions so once you gather everything just follow along for a great meal. Some don’t put the rice at the beginning, but now I know if rice needs to be cooked I do it first. I’d definitely recommend reading the instructions before starting.

Since using this app my grocery bills have gone down, my confidence has gone up, and I’m cooking a lot more variety of meals. I’ve only come across one recipe I’ll never cook again. Turns out if you cook fish slow and low it’s really fishy. I learned from the experience so I consider it a win.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Not open about pricing scheme

*2026-05-05, version 1.0.107*

Honestly sounded like a great app. I was super excited to try it but was hesitant since the pricing is just a find out in the app situation. So I turned to google and everything I looked at said $10 a month or $80 a year which I was willing to pay the monthly to try with the option to switch to yearly. Imagine my surprise that it’s actually $20 a month or $170 a year! Double the price of reports as recent as March! Definitely not worth it for $20 a month, not in this economy. Maybe if they went back to the $10 a month but this is getting out of hand really.

### 1/5 — Not Free

*2026-03-04, version 1.0.104*

Just advertise that it’s subscription based. I feel lied to by the ad that said it’s free with a premium upgrade. I deleted as soon as I saw the subscription come up.

### 1/5 — 🤷🏻‍♀️

*2026-01-14, version 1.0.96*

Was a decent app till they decided to start charging for it and locked me out of accessing any recipes i had made before

### 1/5 — Scammed

*2025-12-16, version 1.0.93*

I did the free trial and cancelled on the 7th day via email to the company. They told me that they could not refund my money and instead would send me an Amazon gift card. Already that sounded fishy. I agreed anyway and I have received no thing. Scammed out of $79. Do not download this app!

### 1/5 — Wouldn’t let me cancel & charged me for trial

*2025-12-15, version 1.0.92*

I have a screenshot of Apple saying “your request is temporarily unable to be processed” when I tried to cancel the free trial (for $100!) and then I got charged :(. I tried to submit a claim on Apple but they denied it even though online Ollie says they give refunds for 30 days. I did it the day I got charged!

### 1/5 — First time user

*2025-12-02, version 1.0.91*

Downloaded app first time said trial ended like straight subscriptions page . That's pretty scam

### 1/5 — Just say up front what it costs

*2025-11-08, version 1.0.88*

Im getting really tired of apps that say free with in app purchases not being free or having a limited free version (a trial you will be automatically billed to continue is NOT a free version) just be up front because when you arent I just delete the whole thing without trying it out at all

### 1/5 — Misleading

*2025-11-05, version 1.0.87*

The description says they offer a subscription for full access to the app, so I assumed it was free to use the basic app, but there’s not. You have to enter your card info to get access to the app at all.

### 1/5 — Not great

*2025-10-31, version 1.0.85*

So hard, bad ui. Not my favorite

### 1/5 — Not free

*2025-10-02*

They ask you a lot of questions, and then tell you that you have to pay.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — So worth it!

*2026-04-26, version 1.0.107*

My husband and I used to use ChatGPT to meal plan but honestly things got stale quickly, it wouldn’t follow directions and kept giving us very similar meals which is why we wanted to try something new. While Ollie isn’t free, for a mom with 2 toddlers trying to lighten the mental load this has been SO worth it! I love that it makes a grocery list and that I can just text it and it will sync to my app. So happy we found this!

### 5/5 — Life saver secret bf

*2026-04-04, version 1.0.105*

Just started using Ollie. I made a few recipes that have been great. He’s helped me plan Easter and the following week’s meals, and he answers all my questions! I’m in love! 😍

### 5/5 — Love love love!

*2026-03-12, version 1.0.104*

I love everything about this app! Modifying a recipe is so simple, I love that I can text questions, and the ease of importing recipes!

### 5/5 — Actually useful

*2026-02-07, version 1.0.101*

I never write reviews, but this app has been awesome for me. It takes all the prep work of having to plan for meals and create a grocery list, and just does it for me. It is also really good at sticking with my preferences and learning what I like. Exporting my grocery list to Whole Foods is also a really nice feature. Overall I’m very happy and plan to continue using this!

### 5/5 — Ollie: Time and money saver; sanity restorer!

*2026-01-30*

As a busy mama with picky eaters, I was thrilled to find Ollie. I tell Ollie what foods we love, and which foods to avoid (due to allergies or picky eater preferences); how many people I’m cooking for, and voila! A full list of menus pops up. A shopping list is available, and that saves me time and money. I can even order the items straight from the app.

If we have an unexpected dinner guest, no problem! I simply change the number of servings, and Ollie celebrates new measurements.

No more asking my family for the umpteenth time, “what do you want for dinner?” Or eating the same meals each week. Ollie makes it fun to try new recipes (which is a great way to introduce new food items to picky eaters!).

There’s an Ollie Ai, where I can easily ask questions, swap ingredients, or ask clarify cooking instructions (e.g.: the instructions say, “ simmer stew.” Should I simmer with or without a lid?).

Lastly, Ollie’s Customer Service is fast, friendly and helpful. Yay! Thank you Ollie and team for making cooking for my family so much easier and making dinnertime even more enjoyable for me and my family!

### 5/5 — Super helpful!

*2026-01-15, version 1.0.96*

Easy meals with all of our family’s dietary restrictions, love that it prepares our shopping list too!!

### 5/5 — Exactly What I Needed

*2026-01-15, version 1.0.96*

Having young children and being a creature of habit, Ollie is exactly what I needed to keep meal nights fun and exciting. I’m so thankful I came across this app. It makes meal planning simple and keeps my grocery list organized. A total game-changer for mealtimes!

### 5/5 — My new favorite kitchen tool

*2026-01-15*

I have to say, this is exactly the kind of subscription I’ve been searching for. I’m not a chef, but I can follow a recipe, and before this app I absolutely dreaded grocery shopping because I was so tired of making the same meals over and over.

Since using the app, I’ve actually gone to the store twice just to pick up ingredients for recipes I chose myself, and it was fun. When I think back to subscriptions like HelloFresh or Factor, they always sent the same types of meals or made the choices for me, and we’d end up wasting food because we changed our minds or didn’t feel like eating what arrived.

One of my favorite things is the grocery list feature. I’m a list person — I organize everything by department — and the fact that the app automatically sorts ingredients that way just speaks to my heart. It makes shopping feel effortless and even enjoyable.

I also love the sense of control. Most of the ingredients are already in my kitchen — I just never knew how to put them together creatively. This gives me ideas, flexibility, and even the confidence to improvise if I’m missing something. During the free trial alone, I made five dishes, and my family loved every single one.

### 5/5 — Love it

*2026-01-14, version 1.0.96*

I love this app! I can upload my own recipes. I love being able to create my own routines and diet preferences. I also love that it learns and is able to tell what you like

### 5/5 — Only positive

*2026-01-14, version 1.0.96*

Been using Ollie since the beginning and it’s been a time saver and helping hand when needing switch a ingredient on the fly
