## What is Omedeto?

Omedeto is a complete Japanese course that lives on your phone.

Start at the very beginning, or test up to your level. From the hiragana and katakana charts, one sound at a time with audio and pronunciation notes, to seventy-plus grammar chapters that carry you from your first sentence to N1 — each with worked examples, vocabulary and practice questions.

CLASSROOM — FREE, BEGINNER TO ADVANCED

The Classroom will take you the whole way, あ to N1, without paying anything.

It teaches a chapter one idea at a time: a grammar point explained, worked examples, a short quiz to make sure it stuck, as well as the chapter's vocabulary and kanji — and finally the test that opens the next level. Lessons orbit a practice hub, so the whole chapter is visible at a glance and you can go straight to the part that needs work. A predicted grade tells you whether you are ready for the test before you sit it.

No account, no sign-up, no time limit. You work through a part at a time and the next waits for tomorrow; do unlimited exercises per day for the price of coffee per month.

THE COMPANION TEXTBOOK

Behind the Classroom sits the textbook it teaches from, to read straight through at your own pace. All thirty kana lessons and the whole of N5 are free to read; a subscription opens N4 through N1, along with counters, dates, keigo and everyday slang.

WRITING KANJI

Draw a character from memory on a grid — writing it, not tracing it. Animated stroke-order guides show you how a character is built before you try, and any kanji's own page lets you practice freely, where nothing counts against you.

WHAT'S INSIDE

• The whole course — thirty kana lessons, then seventy-plus grammar chapters from N5 to N1
• Graded tests — sit them on a schedule, get a report card and a running GPA
• Flashcards — vocabulary, kanji and set phrases, scheduled to reach you just before you would forget
• New words arrive as matching puzzles before you are ever asked to type them
• Trouble Spots — a ranked notebook of what you keep getting wrong
• Audio study — hands-free practice that keeps playing with the screen off, over headphones or car stereo
• A real dictionary — thousands of entries, searchable in English or Japanese, with conjugations and audio
• Kanji — readings, meanings, example words and animated stroke order
• Reading passages — graded comprehension practice with full furigana
• Particles, cheat sheets, grammar diagrams and sheets for confusable grammar
• My Words — save anything you meet, and look a word up from almost anywhere in the app
• Custom lessons — build your own sets from anything in the app
• Already know some Japanese? Test out of what you know and skip ahead

BUILT FOR READING JAPANESE

Furigana sits above every kanji, and one slider controls how large Japanese text appears throughout the app — so readings stay legible whatever your eyesight. Switch romaji off when you no longer need it, and let furigana fade as a word becomes familiar. Anything can be read aloud, and you can search the dictionary by speaking instead of typing.

YOUR PROGRESS, YOUR DEVICE

Everything you do is stored on your iPhone. There are no accounts, no sign-up, no advertising, no analytics and no third-party trackers. Turn on iCloud sync and your progress follows you to another device through your own private iCloud — which nobody else can read. You can export a backup at any time.

The app works completely offline. It never needs a connection to teach you anything.

Home screen widgets show a word from your studies and how far through your chapter you are.

There are also a few things hidden in the app for the curious.
