## What is Omeletter?

Four short word puzzles every day, from a word ladder to anagram chains, with a crossword-style clue for every answer except in Scratch. Today's puzzles are free to play, and there is no account and no advertising.

Most of them work on one idea: each answer is an anagram of the answer before it, plus or minus a single letter. AVER becomes RAVEL with an L. RAVEL becomes REVEAL with an E. The letters have to genuinely move, so chopping one off the end is never a step.

Learn that once and you can play eight of the nine games. Four are set each day, and which four changes from day to day. Every one of the nine comes around at least once in any three days.

Fold grows and shrinks as it pleases. Soufflé rises a letter at a time to the longest answer and falls back the same way. Flip alternates strictly, up then down, so you know every length before you start. Roux gives every answer the same three letters. Reduction hides a word in the letters it discards. Fork splits in two and rejoins. Lattice is a grid where every answer links across and down. Scratch gives you both ends and none of the middle, and you find your own way through.

Double Yolk is the exception, and says so: same length throughout, one letter swapped in place, nothing rearranged. Lewis Carroll invented it in 1877.

Every clue is set by a human. The first clue of a puzzle is always a gentle one.

You start with fifty hints and earn another for every puzzle you solve. They never expire, and a day never starts with fewer than three. A hint shows a letter of the answer you are on; in Scratch, which has no clues, it shows a letter of a word that fits the box you are on, and asking again shows another. If you run short, packs of ten and fifty are in the shop.

A day counts toward your streak once you have solved all four of its puzzles on the day itself. Every seventh day of a streak earns a spare egg, which covers a day you miss, and you can hold two. A day with every puzzle solved and no hints used is a golden egg day.

A finished day can be shared as a row of eggs, and the link you send is a challenge: whoever opens it plays the same puzzles and sees your result beside theirs.

Today's puzzles and the two days before them are always free, and a day you open while it is free stays yours. Every other day from 1 September 2026 can be opened with a day pass, or with All puzzles, which opens every day, past and to come, for a single payment and is shared with your family through Family Sharing.

The puzzles change at the same moment everywhere, which is 05:00 UTC: the middle of the afternoon in Sydney, breakfast in London, midnight in New York. The app says when the next ones arrive on your own clock.

There is a printable sheet every day at omeletter.app for anyone who would rather do it on paper.

## Version history (last 3 releases)

### 1.2 — 2026-10-30

Corrected clues now reach your phone before their day, so each puzzle opens on its latest wording, even without a connection.

Clues across the coming weeks have been reviewed, and reworded where they could be clearer.

On the anagram rack you can type an answer straight through, blanks and all, and a right answer goes in without taking the spare letter off first.

### 1.1 — 2026-10-26

Omeletter now fits the iPhone Duo, closed or open, flat or half open like a book or a laptop.

Drag a letter along the rack to move it, or drag a key up onto the rack to put its letter where you drop it. Flick a letter up to take it off. When the rack is full, type its letters to put them in order.

The rack works out which letters an answer can hold from the solved answers on both sides, and a letter you typed into the answer can be changed on the rack.

A challenge's result now shows both days as cartons of eggs, and the result you send back carries both.

A solved puzzle shows the eggs to go to next: the day's puzzles, or the other puzzles of a game you are playing through.

With a keyboard on an iPad or a Mac, Tab, the arrow keys and Escape move round the puzzles, home and All puzzles.

How a game works ends in a button: Start, Resume or Close. All puzzles opens on this month.

Smaller fixes: Fork's steps reach their clues, the report forms are simpler, and the name at the top grows with your text size.

### 1.0 — 2026-10-22
