### 4/5 — Great when it works

*2024-10-25*

Playing this guitar is really fun, especially using it in conjunction with a looper. But here’s the thing there’s a strange thing that happens randomly when you open the app to play the sound has some sort of static in it. I want to give it five stars and I want to use it for life performances, but it’s too unreliable.

### 4/5 — Nice app

*2015-12-06*

I really like the chord bank system that lets you set up songs in advance.

Only problem (and hence only 4*) is that I can't get the companion iPhone app to connect (works great with Futulele).

Using IOS 9.2 Public Beta, so this may have something to do with it!

### 2/5 — naming issue & abandoned support

*2014-09-18, version 2.11*

I have mixed feelings on this app (I would have given it 4.5 stars). Nice sounding and nice options, HOWEVER, You can not save (name) your own presets as a "naming box" never appears. This is a problem if you are trying to save specific chords/settings for an original tune. As you try and save your own name you will be looking at a list that says, "new set," "new, new set," "new, new, new set," and on and on. I tried writing the company with absolutely NO response from them on this bug. It is too bad because this app is so nice in all other ways. If you are OK with that (serious) bug, than go for it, otherwise, this app's support has been abandoned for further upgrades by the developer (look at the last revision date). Based on my experience, it will never be fixed or upgraded nor will you get a response to your questions.

### 3/5 — Preset Fail

*2014-07-05, version 2.11*

Great sound! But am I the only one who noticed that the ability to create a custom name for user presents is absent.

Tap the New icon and you are prompted to name the new preset. This is impossible to do when the keyboard and text box don't appear. The only option is to CANCEL or select New Set. If you select New Set the app automatically names the preset "New Set." You don't have a choice.

So while the guitar simulation sounds exquisite the inability to name custom presets severely limits the app's usefulness.

Developers: Was this intentional or is it a bug?

### 4/5 — Great app, could easily be made greater!

*2014-05-25*

This app is great for strumming away chords, you can create chord sets and you can easily finger pluck with buttons for strings. However, there needs to be some updates, first we need pages so we can have more than 12 chords in one set. Secondly there needs to be a chord creator/editor so I can create new chords not on list. Finally, it needs a fretboard so we can play solo's. Guitarstudio has this worked out, but I prefer this app for the ipad. Please make updates ASAP!

### 4/5 — Mad Man Mark

*2014-04-06, version 2.11*

Hi great for strumming but I think you need to be able to set which notes you want in a chord so you can play chords in different neck positions . Also effects should be able to set parameters instead of presets . And a mode for playing notes on the neck of the guitar by frets on whole neck , or at least till 12th fret

### 3/5 — Close but a few strings short

*2014-01-13*

Tried using irig and yrg gen 2 synth guitar - only recognised the d,g,b strings. Pity - would have been interesting to be able to put it through the amps/effects on GB.

### 5/5 — Very very cool

*2013-09-30, version 2.11*

Although you can't play a ripping solo, if you play guitar you should by theory enjoy the realistic sound of
This guitar simulation, and if you get good with this app you can practically perform for your friends and entertain
A small crowd. Very rich guitar sound, almost real! :) enjoy the future while it's here.

### 5/5 — Awesome Guitar App!

*2013-09-13, version 2.11*

Had it for two weeks now and the whole family loves it. Tons of fun to play. No talent required ... If you posses an iPad and two working hands, you can create some great music with OMGuitar!

### 5/5 — Best guitar app for my use

*2013-08-30, version 2.11*

I'm not a guitar player at all it it works awesome for me great app!

### 3/5 — If you like chords

*2013-08-09, version 2.11*

This is another example of why iTunes really needs a "trial" period for all apps before purchase. This is not a bad product, but I really was expecting more. If you're all about strumming chords, have at it...anything more than that, save your $3. Meh.

### 5/5 — Great Guitar

*2013-07-01, version 2.11*

Beautiful app with a great sound, and easy to use. The automatic strum patterns make even the musically hopeless sound great!

### 5/5 — Fantastic App!!!

*2013-06-19, version 2.11*

Amazingly realistic and easy to use! Well worth the money!!!

### 2/5 — Not the same capabilities as version 1

*2013-06-17*

I'm not entirely convinced by this new interface. You can't select arbitrary chords on-the-fly any more, it's all about setting up banks of twelve predefined chords. Which may be better for gigs, but it's much less useful for improvising and songwriting. I liked the way you could select any of the 300 chords whilst strumming on the main guitar screen using two or three fingers: please put the option back!

Also, despite sending feedback, it still inexplicably plays the wrong notes for certain chords such as G#sus2!

### 4/5 — Great sounding guitars

*2013-06-15*

I love this app - it's capable of delivering some rich and chiming guitar textures. There are a couple of gripes - the chord controls are on the wrong side of the screen and the muting control -although pretty good - is hard to use while simultaneously strumming and changing chords. A suggestion for future updates would be some subtle effects like the occasional sliding of fingers on strings between chord changes. I can definitely give it the Clocktoys seal of approval though : )

### 5/5 — OMGuitar

*2013-06-14, version 2.11*

Just been using since yesterday. Many, many features to explore. Not for the faint hearted. Very complex user and setting controls.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — They need to update or give these apps love and care

*2020-09-29, version 3.2.1*

It seems like the developers have just abandoned us...the app crashes so much especially on ios14. When you click background it crashes and it doesn’t play well with other apps as a midi instrument. As in, nothing happens. Even when you set the midi input as (for example) gestrument pro....no sounds still play. Such a shame since this has the best sounding guitars i’ve come across on the ios, but has been so difficult to implement into my production workflow.

### 1/5 — No sound

*2015-12-30*

While app will initially work, as soon as I change guitar the sound will often cut out. As I'm running iOS 9.2 on iPad Air 2 I assume it has issue with 9.2??? All other music apps inc GarageBand work fine so issue is not with my iPad.

### 1/5 — Broken

*2013-06-29, version 2.11*

The new features Look great, but the app makes no sound on my ipad (running ios 5x). Developer website appears to be down so I am forced to write this here. If this problem gets fixed, I will add lots of stars but right now Omguitar's just 246 megabytes of wasted space. Looks nice, though.

### 1/5 — Crackling noise

*2013-06-15*

On a ipad 4 with no other apps in the background, the guitar crackles. Not good I'm afraid.

### 1/5 — Dead end app?

*2012-12-06*

I bought OMGuitar early in 2011 because seemed to have a decent feature set and was one of the autochording apps promising MIDI output, albeit in a future update. Based on that promise I thought the $20 price tag would be worth it. It's been nearly 2 years, the problems with sustain dropping haven't been fixed, it still has a tendency to overload the audio to the point where it crackles if you aren't careful with the settings, and there hasn't even been a maintenance update in a year while Amidio focuses on new apps instead.

Honestly, I'd rather pay a premium price for an app I expect to get real use out of in the long term, but not only has the program not been fixed and updated, the promised MIDI feature has been completely removed from the description. This is a broken app and it doesn't look like it has a future.

### 1/5 — Interface is horrible.

*2012-05-30, version 1.1*

I wish they made this similar to futulele. Or at least the option to strum and hold chords easier and more natural. It's uncomfortable, and unnatural feeling. Want my money back, because I don't use this app.

### 1/5 — Fix it ....

*2012-05-07, version 1.1*

Great idea... But needs more stability, locks up sometimes, guitar strum response is a bit slow. Sustain needs work BIG TIME !
It's not consistent ! Could use a no strum chord play function would help me ( bass player) to figure out which chords to tell guitarist and keyboard players to play, add that and fix the strum and sustain and you got a great start. Otherwise it's just a nice toy .... Thxz ! Oh, the image you label as a telecaster is not... It's a Gibson SG !

### 1/5 — Incompatible w/ iOS 5

*2012-01-05, version 1.1*

Sounds great half the time. The other half the guitar does not sustain like a guitar should. Strum a guitar and the chord should rings for at least five seconds while the sound decays. This app will cut the sound off sometimes after one second. I have yet to detect a pattern indicating when it will sustain and when it will cut short. Not very useful unless this is resolved. I'll stick to Garage Band.

### 1/5 — Worthless until updated for OS5

*2011-10-19, version 1.0*

I bought this only to find out that it has no sound when launched and then force mutes my iPad external speakers. I then have to shut down and reboot to get my sound back. I paid a pretty hefty price for this, please make it work. Thanks!

### 1/5 — Nice idea but truly terrible sound! Very sorry I wasted the money!

*2011-08-03*

I thought it was a nice idea at first and was quite keen to add this to my iPad 2 for some guitar fun (I play electric guitar in real life!) and having watched a few videos took the plunge and bought it. The videos made to advertise this must have been made with different equipment because the sound is a lot better on the videos than on the iPad - I feel cheated! They are the most atrocious guitar sounds I've ever heard and it's really scratchy and bad. I'm not a novice on the iPad nor on the real guitar and this app is really the worst I've ever downloaded, as someone who has got quite a collection. Don't bother with this, it's a waste of money. Go for something with real quality sound - and it'll be anything but this horrendous OMGuitar! :0(

### 5/5 — IO was my first thought IO ⚡️

*2024-08-25*

Amidio thanks , what a journey. What happened to IO, 'slow and low' was an amazing preset, my memory has no degradation, that synth was cool!

### 5/5 — great to see this getting some updates

*2020-04-29*

just having a few issues when used in bm3/aum/cubasis...

if omg is played using the host keyboard, the responsivness
is sluggish and notes do not display the same sustain/release.

they sound stabby.

be great if that was addressed.

any plans for auv3?
or to bring back pearl?

many thanks

### 5/5 — So awesome

*2017-05-06, version 3.1.1*

This and the ukulele version are my two favorite apps ever.

### 5/5 — Very nice virtual Axe!

*2015-07-31, version 3.0.1*

I really like this app. There are a number of apps in this category. I think the one thing that stands out with OMG is the FX. They sound really good.

Playing it is a breeze. The developer is active and listens to users.

### 5/5 — Superb Guitars!

*2015-07-29, version 3.0.1*

I am thoroughly impressed with this guitar app! It sounds wonderful and is a joy to play. The new developer is looking to improve this app to be the best it can be. Looking forward to the continued development of this app and the music that I create with it.

### 5/5 — New support!

*2015-07-26, version 3.0.1*

I have owned this for quite a while and it remains one of my favorites. I am glad to learn it has a new developer behind it who is actively working to modernize and improve this classic.

### 5/5 — Great samples

*2015-03-20, version 3.0.0*

I bought guitarism, first, because it seemed like the only guitar synthesizer on iOS that was capable of real expression. It's great, but OMGuitar sounds better, period. The samples are beautiful and change based on velocity, sounding very natural, and muting and string-bending work great.

### 5/5 — New developer = awesome support for an awesome app

*2014-12-18, version 2.50*

OMGuitar is really an amazing app. It is very useful if you need some quick chords or even for playing full songs. The last developer only needed to fix 1 small thing (that was preventing the app from being useable) but wouldn't. Someone bought the app and now it's under new management! He fixed the one issue and everything works again!

I highly recommend this app for anyone who owns a guitar. It's a great companion.

I'm looking forward to future releases with this new company. Their support is amazing.

### 5/5 — Back on the (Audio)Bus

*2014-12-09*

Nice to find a responsive dev who listens to customers. App now works with AudioBus, and is a nice addition to any IOS virtual guitarists collection.

Nic

### 5/5 — Great guitar

*2013-11-08, version 2.11*

Really a good guitar app. I don't know why I don't see more people talking about it plus you can't beat the price. try it you'll like it. Very easy to use and sounds great and very easy to record and move around files. Def a 5 star app.
