It’s 2025 and this feels like expensive baby software. ### 2/5 — Like trying to draw with boxing gloves on *2024-11-14* I must say that every detail of the UI is pretty. And the team has managed to stuff an absolutely incredible array of capability into this iPhone app. That said, trying to actually do any meaningful diagramming is painful. Horridly so. Honesty, the ability to edit OmniGraffle files on iPhone should be free, since I could genuinely argue that investing the effort required to produce any meaningful diagram in the handheld UX is payment enough. Perhaps more. While I can accept the subscription fee as reasonable for Mac and even iPad, the value proposition simply isn’t there for the iPhone app. I love the OmniGroup. My first purchase from them was at their MacWorld booth in the Javitz Center in NYC, in the late 90s. I was shocked at how bad it has become. Object selection is at best hit and miss, and usually just random. Drawing on the canvas just mangles what is there already. From the reviews, seems like the user-hostility for trials is protecting me from a frustratingly buggy & undersupported application... ### 1/5 — No evaluation possible without heafty purchase *2023-01-12, version 3.19* Freshly downloaded. Tutorial says: click + to create a new document. I click + and get the choice between two purchase options. The cheapest is 13,49€/m. Are you kidding? Not even an evaluation mode? At this pricepoint not interested for an occasional private diagram. The app must hold the sad record now for shortest time present on my iPad. ### 1/5 — Waste of money *2022-12-28, version 3.19* I have tried for years to like Omni products. It has been a while since I used this. Hoped maybe the updates made my expenditure worth it. Seems to get worse as time going on. Frustrating interface, glitchy. It resizes when you want to move and moves when you want to resize, there’s no control. It also crashed on my twice (reports submitted) and you can’t export svg, which means I have to use bitmaps when embedding diagrams in wikis for example. ### 2/5 — Used to be great *2022-08-12* Freezes constantly which means I can’t use it any more as its unstable. Come on developers, sort this app out ### 2/5 — Preis und Leistung stimmen nicht *2022-07-29* Es gibt am Markt zahlreiche - für Gelegenheitsanwender - kostenfreie Werkzeuge zur Erstellung von Diagrammen. Diese sind zwar zuweilen nicht so gut gestaltet -reichen für viele Fälle aber aus. Nun darf gut gestaltete Software gerne Geld kosten - allerdings sind die von Omnigroup aufgerufenen Preise lächerlich. 13,50 EUR im Monat für ein Diagrammtool? Dafür bekomme ich anderswo eine komplette Musikproduktionsumgebung, ein komplettes Office-Paket und vieles mehr. Nichts, was Omjigraffle liefert, rechtfertigt einen solchen Preis. Auch die Kaufoptionen mit 59 EUR - respektive 119 EUR - sind lächerlich. Für 4,99 EUR im Monat oder 24,95/49,95 EUR Kaufpreis wäre ich dabei und das wäre bereits gut bezahlt. Aber so kann ich eben kein für Kunden akzeptables Verhältnis zwischen Preis und Leistung finden. Ich wünsche der Omjigroup auch weiterhin viel Erfolg mit diesen Apothekenpreisen - aber ich muss da passen und greife lieber zu Produkten des Wettbewerbs. ### 1/5 — Unfortunately, useless *2022-07-22* I’m a happy customer if Omnigraffle for macOS and I still use it to this day for UX/UI wire framing. Although the desktop app is becoming really ‘legacy’ now, e.g no way to collaborate in real-time, no objects I can create or import to scale elements ‘9-slice’, it is still for me the most effective way to wireframe, as I never got used to Adobe’s offering and greatly disliking a subscription model to come with that. The mobile version though to me is useless. Pretty much every file I import from the desktop app is ‘converted’ because it apparently is powered by an entirely different interpreter, rather than shared by the same code-base. Lots of errors and inconsistencies when the file is finally imported. The feature-set is different, which I understand to a certain degree, but is not feasible for a professional workflow. Lastly the mobile app does not provide any added value either, such a real-time collaboration. Therefore it feels more like a subset app with flaws that doesn’t really know what it’s oughta be. As an existing customer I therefore recommend leaving this one alone in its current state and instead just the desktop version. ### 1/5 — Blind faith required apparently *2022-07-02* It’s extremely arrogant to charge £121 a year for a product someone can’t even trial. Apparently the developer feels everyone everywhere knows the capabilities. Perfectly happy to pay for a subscription if it does what I want, but I’ll never know because I could do approximately 0% of what I needed to try and I’m not about to pay £11 to try something for 15 mins and find out it’s not what I’m looking for. Really weird business choices here. ### 1/5 — Hmmm… *2022-04-28, version 3.17* What kind of person would pay over $100 for an app that could be updated to uselessness tomorrow? Not knowing when the disabling updates will come makes buying a temporary app foolish. Apple shares the blame by allowing these types of app purchases. This is the worst type of never-own-ware. Pitiful. ### 2/5 — Handy but annoying and buggy to use. *2022-04-08* Interface is mediocre. Implementation is sketch. They need to divide the options for what you want to do and single them out. Every time I go to move an object 9 times out of 10 it resizes the object. Stupid annoying. To the point I feel the need to write this review. Moving an object is a basic function that doesn’t need to be attached to scaling. Rest of the app is fine. Gonna ask for a refund and go back to open office. Fix your interface and I might come back. Right now I’m sitting at the airport and have made almost zero progress in doing my signal map. Waste of time. ### 1/5 — Crashes a lot and takes your work with it *2026-06-11* I want to like OmniGraffle, I really do. It’s ambitious and attempts to tackle any number of advanced features of vector drawing and flow charts. It was one of the very first apps I bought for my first iPad even though it cost an eye popping $50 at the time. 10 or 15 years ago it was much more reliable than it is now. I used to use it for maps of complex networks at clients and at home. No simple block diagrams for me! I used the transparency, layering, photographic imports, drop shadows, and other effects quite liberally. No more. With dismay I’ve watched this app degenerate into an assorted collection of crashes, stutters and freezes; it prompts me to submit yet another unanswered "failure report" via mail nearly every time I launch it now. The final straw was when it lost a massively complex drawing just now. I had worked on it for many hours; suddenly when I just started app-for some reason it was only offering a much earlier version of the drawing. I find myself in need of continuously backing up what I’m working on by making extra copies of the document while using this app and I forgot to do it this time. At the end of the day, the frustration, mountains of wasted time, total lack of development or improvement, and apparent abandonedware nature of this app lead me to warn my fellow App Store denizens: stay away from OmniGraffle. And the rest of the developer’s rotten products while you’re at it ### 1/5 — Unacceptable lack of stability *2026-05-10* This app has simply been left behind. From a company that still wants us to invest in them buy buying their products. I’ve bought them all. And they treat the customers by not updating this app in 7 months and allowing it die. It is UNSTABLE. Crashes. Loses data. TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. The fact that Omni are working on a new version, with the hope that we all dive in, is one heck of a gamble - you’re losing our confidence and then will ask us to pay to upgrade? Pretty terrible business practice tbh ### 1/5 — Useless with visio files on ipad as of Nov 2025 *2025-11-14, version 3.22* While you can now import different visio file formats into OmniGraffle, reality is they arrive somewhat scrambled (I tried every visio format and they all come thru imperfectly). So if you have a complex drawing, you can count on up to 50% of connectors, labels, etc. to be wrong. Also when you export out to visio, there’s only one format available, which MS365 VISIO cannot recognize thus can’t open. It is clear that the upgrades must continue on from where you purchased them originally. This seems to be causing some annoyance with other customers. My understanding is that this is Apple’s policy, not OmniGroup’s. My experience of their customer support has always been fast and helpful including an instant refund when I made a purchase in error.
