Every update I think “Why have they changed this again…?”. And after a few days I go on to think it’s the best version yet.

This version has had a bit of a learning curve (like trying to work out where my templates had done) but once I had spent some time working on it it’s back to normal.

The only reason I have given it 4 stars is it is not immediately obvious how to use it (such as my own templates) so it is a little effort at the start.

There may be a way of sorting custom templates from OO5 to OO6 and it’s just user error.

Bottom line though: I love this company and their software **Developer response:** Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback! It is better that is for sure and I have always liked this app. I would still like to see improvements to saved filters, like seeing the children, rather than just the parent rows, which I think is an oversight. Tagging system for rows would seem logical, and that would fit nicely with extended filter options (hacks with columns and popups just aren’t the same). I hope this is considered. The filter finds need a way of dismissing with keyboard, and should scroll to the selected row (painful in long documents), and similar to the saved filters, need to be able to see children (and cannot see parents/group hierarchy unlike saved filters). And why the global status checkbox aren’t a row level/property I still don’t know. But it definitely has improved including now being a universal app, do can’t take away from that, it’s much better on iOS. ### 3/5 — Load very slowly on Mac 15.7.3 *2026-01-09* I bought this app but it didn’t work out on Mac 15.7.3, it crashes very often. I have used OnmiOutliner for 20 years and this is it. For $24 I at least get to pay for seeing how bad a company can get. **Developer response:** Apologies for the confusion! I reloaded, restarted, checked with AI what I might be doing wrong. Nothing worked. Opening the app takes you to a blank folder with all options greyed out. No way to start, no suggestions in the help sections. I’m going to bin it and use something else. Ich verstehe auch nicht, warum ich nicht den Upgrade-Preis angeboten bekomme, obwohl OmniOutliner 5 auf dem Mac installiert ist (auch über den Apple-App-Store). Ohne Account kann man die App auch nicht 14 Tage testen, sondern nur als Viewer verwenden. Was soll das? Mit Version 5 bin ich sehr zufrieden, aber Version 6 kann ich ohne Omni-Konto nicht vergleichbar testen. Ohne Test kein Kauf, also tschüß. Vielen Dank! ### 2/5 — Not very stable *2026-07-21* I was forced to create an account to use the 14 day trial; an account that I appear to have no way to close. My first attempt as using the software resulted in a crash and all my data changes lost. I submitted the crash report but the automated response told me I would not get a response about it. I imported an OPML file and converted it to native format. I then told it to convert the text dates to proper dates… it just corrupted them. I tried a second OPML file and it refused to even open that. From what I saw, this would have been good software, but it seems unstable. The 2* review is a bit confusing and certainly does not replicate anything I’ve experienced. The ratings on this app were 4.5* last month, I’m unsure how it’s dropped on one review to 3.7*. I always thought it was crazy to shell out again for the Mac version when I’ve already paid a pretty penny for the iOS version. Now I’m happy to pay the upgrade subscription price and have it available on both platforms. Best outlining app out there! One concern with version 6 — iOS26/iPadOS26 is required. That’s a big disappointment for those of us who really don’t like the new OSs. Dennoch ist die Software für mich in Sachen Klarheit, Workflow und Strukturierung für jedwede Art von Informationsmanagement konkurrenzlos. Ich nutze sie für fast alles. Seit die Apps für iPad und iPhone zur Mac-Software hinzugekommen sind, hat das viele Arbeitsprozesse noch agiler und ertragreicher gemacht. Hier setzt nun aber auch meine Kritik an: Wenn man auf mehreren Geräten (Wechsel zwischen iPad und iPhone) an einer Datei arbeitet, passiert es regelmäßig, dass die ältere Dateiversion die neuere überschreibt und damit Daten und wertvolle Arbeitszeit verloren gehen.
