Change your digital piano or synthesizer into an arranger keyboard with realtime auto-accompaniment. Or use your iOS device on its own as a realtime arranger and be creative while traveling Connect your iPad, iPhone or iPod to your keyboard instrument with the camera connection kit and an USB AB cable or a MIDI interface cable (depending on what your keyboard uses for MIDI). Then start One Man Band and select the Settings button. Choose the MIDI In and MIDI Out port to your keyboard and press Done. Now select the red Presets button and choose one of the style/voice combinations. When you play a chord on the leftside of your keyboard instrument, the accompaniment will start to play. You can play the melody on the right side of the keyboard, it will have harmonies and instrument layers depending on the chosen voice. Select different style variations (Main, Fill, Intro, Ending) while you play. Switch to different accompaniment styles and melody voices with the buttons on top. Press Record and set the switch on to record MIDI files. When you don't have a keyboard instrument (yet) or can't make the connection at the moment, then there are options to use the iPad/iPhone/iPod as an accompaniment instrument on its own. Select the soundfont player at Settings/Ports/MidiOut and use the virtual keyboard to play chords and melody. The panel with 56 buttons is customisable. You can assign a function, voice, preset, chord or note to each of the buttons (except for the button top left) and create submenus with again 56 buttons each. Create your own voices with harmonies and instrument layering. One Man Band Lite comes with 10 styles that you can play without restrictions. One Man Band utilises standard style files, compatible with the styles used in Yamaha PSR, DGX and Tyros arranger keyboards. There are thousands of these styles available on the internet. When you copy a zip-file with styles to OMB (download, email, icloud), the styles will be placed in a new style folder with the same name as the zip-file. In the Lite version you can play the 10 included styles, other styles will be paused 15 seconds after 60 seconds of playing. After the pause you can restart the accompaniment by playing a chord. I have no way of importing Soundfonts or styles into the app as it does not support iOS and iPadOs’s Files app. Unfortunately I no longer have Windows, so importing styles and Soundfonts via Itunes is out of the question. I sent several emails to the developer regarding this issue, and the developer did not respond to a single one of my emails. I own the original OMB software you created for Windows and it’s been so long since I wished for your software to be ported to IOS! Thank you so much for continuing your awesome legacy of producing top notch software! I was so bummed when my old PC kicked the can sort of speak which meant I no longer could use OMB; so I jumped in the IOS wagon and never looked back. Now that you have OMB on IOS it brings so much joy to my heart! I can imagine how difficult it is to code software and I know you have been getting a lot of user requests. The IOS standards for music making are Audiobus, AUM mixer and AUv3 as well as Inter App audio which really is on the way out as of IOS 12.4. But if you get the chance to code at the very least Background Audio enable, it would make a world of difference. With the Background Audio we can integrate this amazing App within Audiobus 3 or AUM and it would add huge amounts of flexibility to so many musicians including myself. As soon as I downloaded the free version I knew my way around; Jos thank you so much for your great work and I hope your app continues to do well! MusicMan4Christ ### 1/5 — Lag in chord recognition *2019-06-23* Playing a sequence of simple chords. Even first best of the bar changes. It can’t keep up. Lag makes a promising app useless. I know my iPad is not the issue as Yamaha app I have does similar arranging with the same keyboard with no issues ### 2/5 — No Background audio??? *2019-05-05* Was about to pull the plug to buy the main app until I realised that the app does not do background audio Not cool If not Audiobus AUM , at least background audio functionality..is the least the developer can implement At least the developer should allow to record audio from this app on an iOS daw ### 3/5 — What does it do? *2019-04-11, version 1.2* This is potentially a really useful app but not sure how developer thinks that the live version is worth nearly thirty quid! Are you paying for just the ability to play all the way through sty files downloaded from the net, or is there something else it can do that is not explained in the blurb? ### 4/5 — A major player developer needs this guy *2019-01-25, version 1.2* It seems so bizarre to me that this is the only real time auto arranger app out there, it is basically an emulation of old arranger keyboards of the late 80s onwards. Sometimes I want to be able to hear something fuller than my piano playing and a minimal drum machine for finding ideas for a new song and this is basically the only thing out there for iOS. If the developer were to be approached by a major player and augmented this into a great sound set collection and gave it a visual makeover this app would kill it. Maybe the synth hardware manufacturers out there are scared of this type of app hence why it’s not out there.
