## What is one sec | screen time + focus?

Willpower is not enough against social media algorithms!

That’s why I made one sec:

one sec adds friction to distracting apps to make them less appealing…long-term!

This principle works really well: we have gained scientific evidence in numerous research studies with the Max-Planck Institute, with the German and Danish government, and in dozens more scientific collaborations:

one sec has incredible effects on your screen time: app usage drops by 57% on average!

…just read our App Store reviews or try it for yourself if you don’t believe me (…you should really try it)!

How is one sec different from Screen Time limits or app blockers?
- one sec DELAYS access to distracting apps instead of blocking apps completely – that’s an important difference psychologically.
- This way, we solve the screen time problem at its roots: long-term & sustainably!
- one sec is always on, and makes using social media just slightly more annoying…so you’ll end up using it only when you actually have a reason!

Which apps can I use with one sec?
- You can set up one sec with any app you’d like to use less / more intentional.
- Most popular use-cases are: social media, games, video streaming, dating, stock/coin trading, adult content.
- Using one sec with one app of your choice if completely free, for more you’ll need to purchase one sec pro (we also need to finance development of our app!).

What if I get stuck scrolling?
- No worries, one sec offers a Doom Scroll Emergency Brake: We call it Re-Intervention.
- After a set time (e.g. 5 minutes) you’ll be kicked out of social media, and you’ll have to go through an intervention again to unlock more time.

Where can I learn more about the scientific background of one sec?

Can I use one sec to interrupt access to websites as well?
→ Yes, one sec offers a free Safari extension as well.

How does one sec work technically?
- one sec uses Shortcuts Automation to toggle a deep breath animation whenever you open one of the configured apps (Instagram, Twitter, YouTube…).
- This breaks unconscious social media habits short-term (literally, as soon as you have set it up) and even helps long-term by adding more friction when opening these apps.

Integrations:
- Structured: one sec blocks apps during unfinished tasks.
- LENGO: learn vocabulary to unlock social media.

I developed one sec for myself in 2020…and it worked so well I decided to upload it to the App Store.

Especially for people with ADHD one sec is a great tool to gain back control for incredible focus and concentration.

### 5/5 — Thank you

*2026-08-25, version 5.2.10*

Thank you

### 5/5 — Closest thing to magic bullet

*2026-08-24, version 5.2.10*

Cut my screen time dramatically instantly. I compulsively open apps and unfortunately the best advice to this point had been to just put your phone away, which I can’t do because of various reasons. This has been a life saver, I usually don’t gush this hard over an app but this had been hugely beneficial for me.

### 5/5 — Please

*2026-08-19, version 5.2.10*

Please add setting so one sec can work on chrome app on iPhone for websites!!!

### 1/5 — Used to be amazing

*2026-08-17, version 5.2.9*

I used to use the app about six months ago, and it worked perfectly. Now, every time I open the app, I’m forced to create a new account and sign in again, which is extremely frustrating.

On top of that, the app won’t let me block more than three apps at a time, even though I paid for a full year of the One Sec subscription. At this point, the subscription feels like a complete waste of money because I’m paying for features that either don’t work properly or that I can’t even use.

I really liked the app before, so it’s disappointing to see it become this difficult to use. I’d appreciate it if these issues could be fixed or if someone could explain why my paid subscription isn’t working as expected.

### 4/5 — Please add Minecraft

*2026-08-17, version 5.2.9*

Please add the game "Minecraft" to the "Shortcuts" app for setting usage restrictions. Otherwise, the app is great

### 5/5 — Amazing app to stop procrastination.

*2026-08-16, version 5.2.9*

This app is great for people addicted to procrastination. It’s really eye opening to see how many times I opened this app and how much time I saved. Opening Instagram or tik tok has always been so impulsive to me that I don’t even realize it when I do it. This app provides a breathing exercise before opening up social media and it’s great to stop impulsivity and be more aware of the apps that you are opening up on your phone.

### 5/5 — Great app - suggestion!

*2026-08-11, version 5.2.9*

It’s a great app, but like all addictions you’ll always find a way around it. I think for the recurring block feature I’d like to see an option where I’m not able to turn off the block in the next hour as well as the current hour. For example at 9.57pm I can turn off the hour 10-11 and in three minutes I’m doom scrolling away!

### 3/5 — 很一般

*2026-08-11, version 5.2.9*

ui也不美观，功能限制太多，体验不太好

### 5/5 — 5/5 would recommend

*2026-08-09, version 5.2.9*

Begone doomscrolling 😩(i know I can just uninstall those apps, but this is a sweet compromise)

### 1/5 — 莫名其妙耗电严重

*2026-08-08*

没在使用且关闭后台的时候，还是在后台24小时耗电！！

## Frequently asked questions about one sec | screen time + focus

### What does this app do?

This app introduces intentional friction to distracting apps and websites, making them less appealing for long-term use. It works by delaying access to these apps instead of completely blocking them, which is a key psychological difference that helps users build sustainable habits and reduce overall screen time.

### How does it differ from standard screen time limits?

Unlike traditional screen time limits or app blockers that completely prevent access, this app adds a slight delay or interruption when you try to open a distracting app. This subtle friction is designed to break unconscious habits and encourage more intentional usage, leading to a significant reduction in app usage over time.

### Is this app free to use?

The app offers a free version that allows you to set up limitations for one app of your choice. For access to more features and to set up limitations for multiple apps, a premium version is available through various subscription options, including annual, monthly, and lifetime unlocks.

### What kind of apps can I use this with?

You can configure this app with any application you wish to use less or more intentionally. Popular use cases include social media platforms, games, video streaming services, dating apps, stock trading apps, and adult content sites. A free Safari extension is also available to interrupt access to websites.

### What happens if I get stuck scrolling?

The app includes a feature called 'Re-Intervention' which acts as a 'Doom Scroll Emergency Brake.' After a set period of time, such as five minutes, you will be automatically removed from the social media app. You will then need to go through the intervention process again to unlock more time, helping you regain control.

### 5.2.6 — 2026-06-02

This is a small update with big impact:

If you’re running iOS 26.5 (or newer) you will no longer have to do the notification dance when going through Re-Interventions or Delayed Interventions.

When you press the “Intervention” button, the breathing exercise (or other intervention of your choice) will simply show up.

On top of that, we’ve made small improvements to the Structured integration & the block tab in general.

Hope you’re enjoying our little updates over the past few weeks!

If you like one sec, it would help a lot if you could leave us a nice review on the App Store. Thank you!
