## What is One Step Challenges?

One Step Challenges is a fitness competition app built for friends and family who want to compete fairly across different fitness levels. Like a handicap in golf, each user gets a personal multiplier based on their own fitness — so a beginner and a seasoned athlete can go head-to-head on equal terms. Points are weighted by individual capability, not raw output. Effort wins, not genetics.

Your handicap isn't a guess. The app calibrates it over 7 days by reading your real Apple Watch data — resting heart rate, VO2 max, daily steps, active minutes, and time in elevated heart-rate zones — then recalibrates monthly as your fitness changes.

Daily activity is tracked automatically through Apple Watch and Apple Health: workouts with heart-rate zone analysis, steps, exercise minutes, and active calories. Log on-plan nutrition with a single tap — no calorie counting. Build daily streaks for consistency. Real-time leaderboards show standings across everyone in a challenge.

Key features:
- Handicap-fair scoring that levels the field across fitness levels
- 7-day calibration from real Apple Watch data, recalibrated monthly
- Heart-rate zone analysis on every workout
- Steps, active minutes, active calories, and resting HR tracking
- One-tap nutrition logging — no calorie counting
- Daily streaks for consistency
- Multi-user challenges with shared invite codes
- Real-time leaderboard and today feed
- Reactions to cheer on the people you're competing with
- Built for honest measurement, not gamification tricks

Requires Apple Watch and Apple Health.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.1.0 — 2026-08-24

Smarter handicaps.

Your handicap now calibrates to who you actually are — age, VO2 max, resting heart rate, steps, and active minutes — and settles at a fair value. Stay consistent and it holds. Get fitter and it tightens. Take a break and it eases up right away.

- VO2 max is scored against norms for your age and sex — a fit 70-year-old scores as fit.
- Handicap changes are gradual and predictable, never sudden.
- Challenge participant lists now update reliably when someone joins.
- Challenge feeds now show everyone's nutrition check-ins.
- More accurate activity data: steps, exercise minutes, calories, and heart-rate zones.
- Works with any wearable that syncs to Apple Health — Apple Watch, Garmin, Whoop, Oura, Fitbit, and more.

### 1.0.7 — 2026-06-18

What's new in 1.0.7:
- One Step now works with ANY fitness wearable that syncs to Apple Health — Garmin, Whoop, Oura, Fitbit, and more — not just Apple Watch. Wording updated all over the app to match.
- New: when you create a challenge you can turn the Triple Crown bonus on or off. Triple Crown is an Apple Watch–only +100, so turning it off keeps a challenge fair when not everyone has one.
- Calibration improvements.

What to try:
1. Create a challenge with "Triple Crown scoring" ON, and a second one with it OFF. Earn your Triple Crown (close all three rings) and check the +100 shows up in the ON challenge but NOT the OFF one.
2. Make sure your daily score and the leaderboard look right.
3. If you use a non-Apple wearable, confirm your workouts, steps, and heart rate show up.
4. Anything that looks off, broken, or confusing — tell me.

### 1.0.6 — 2026-06-05

New in this version:

- Sign in with a 6-digit code sent to your email — faster and more reliable than before.
- Introducing One Step Pro: unlock Teams, Workout Zone Breakdown, multiple simultaneous challenges, expanded Health Metrics, and the Calibration Dashboard. Includes a 7-day free trial. Core features remain free.
- Your calibration progress now resumes correctly after signing out.
- Reliability and performance improvements throughout.

### 1.0.5 — 2026-06-01

This is a big update with improvements across sign-in, scoring, and reliability:

- Faster, smoother sign-in — signing back in restores your account instantly without setting up your profile again.
- More accurate workout scoring based on your heart-rate zones.
- Fairer competition — your handicap now stays locked between calibrations.
- Streak freezes are synced so your monthly freeze stays consistent.
- More reliable leaderboards and offline behavior.
- Numerous stability, accuracy, and display improvements throughout.

### 1.0.4 — 2026-05-29

Bug fixes and stability improvements:
- Signing back in no longer resets your handicap or restarts calibration. Your existing handicap and recalibration schedule are now restored from your account.
- Scores and check-ins now correctly attribute to the right day when the app is open across midnight.
