### 2/5 — Not very useful

*2025-12-28, version 3.6*

First, there should be a trial version so one doesn’t have to drop $99 without trying it out. The App is a disappointment. It can’t seem to figure out how to read two pages of a book without jumping between the pages. And the voice is robotic. There are better free apps.

### 3/5 — Super Hilfsmittel. Doch verbesserungswüedig.

*2024-12-14*

### 2/5 — Crashes when opening PDF files

*2024-03-19, version 3.5*

Great for photos, but I have files I need to have read that are in PDF format. Every time I click to download, it starts and then crashes.

### 4/5 — Couldn't be without it

*2024-02-02*

I am a 69-year-old male, into thousand and eight, had a medical procedure go wrong, was in a coma for three months time died eight times, and was reminded 26 times, I had turtle sceptres throughout my body, at one point the medical Doctors requested permission to turn 28 machines off and let me know, because of the amount of brain damage and organ failure, I had 28 machines connected to me trying to revive my organs, I suffered extensive brain damage, with the majority of my brain considered not to function again, fortunately, somebody said he's not DNR, and when I came out of the coma I was totally blind, and well handicapped, I have now had 25 major strokes, and have regained quite a lot of my vision, but my brain cannot lead down to 5 words, so yes one step is vital to me many thanks to all involved with one step from Jason Vickers

### 2/5 — Won't process advanced documents for blind people

*2022-07-13*

I would happily pay $99 for the application that I'm looking for, but this is not it. I was hoping that I would be able to use this to read historical SEC filings of companies which include a lot of text and tables. Unfortunately, as their instructional material explains, Advance documents like memos in books are only intended for the cited users, while blind people are only supposed to read receipts.

Even though it says that you can export to HTML, the only options for saving are PDF and some sort of proprietary format which they recommend for blind people. The only way that you can actually read is by using the audio player tool, as voiceover Will only navigate word by word. You can also only read by sentence, word or line, and not by paragraph. During the OCR process, voiceover will not interact with the application and it does not tell you the progress.

Requesting a refund.

### 3/5 — verschlimmbessert

*2022-03-13*

Also dringendst Nachbesserung!!

### 3/5 — Crash course

*2022-02-25*

This app just crashes on iPhone 13 pro. Resolved by deleting and reinstalling the App.

### 2/5 — Don’t waste your money

*2021-03-14, version 3.2*

When it first came out, there was nothing else on the market like it and it was excellent. Now, due to all of the other scanners coming out that are much cheaper, they are more streamlined and they scan text clearer and they read pretty much perfectly what it’s scanned. The KNFB reader is not keeping up with the new technology and it’s too cumbersome to use and doesn’t work a lot of the times.

### 2/5 — Help

*2021-01-25, version 3.2*

Hi this App has stopped opening up, please can you sort as I need this for work. I’m running iso14 on iPhone 10. There’s obviously a bug that needs fixing.

I have just tried deleting the app and reinstalling it. Now it works fine except I have lost all my work. Why does it not save to apple cloud?

### 3/5 — Nützlich, aber...

*2020-08-24*

### 4/5 — Read PDFs

*2020-08-07, version 3.2*

I have used the KNFB Reader way back when it was only available on a cell phone and a clunky device that put the camera and phone together. This app improves that immensely, but compared to some free apps, I believe it is overpriced. I do however appreciate the fact that it does a pretty good job reading PDFs.

### 3/5 — Read it does not read my mail

*2020-02-13, version 3.2*

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Ancient garbage.

*2026-01-22, version 3.6*

DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY. Just bought this for my blind mother. Paid a lot of money, no trial. Bought it because it had a good reputation, years before as a product of Kurzweil and National Federation of the Blind. This now seems like ancient garbage. Too many skips and mistakes on a single image of a book page which was read perfectly by ChatGPT. The developers seem to be ossified.

### 1/5 — I Can't Recommend This App

*2024-04-01, version 3.5*

The "braille" support is not the best. voiceover only reads one word at a time per element, forcing the user to strictly rely on speech alone. The field of view reports do not work all the time. As a result, it is difficult to take photos of printed materials. There are better alternatives that do not cost a penny. Do not buy this app if you do not need to.

### 1/5 — Long time app, owner, use very little.

*2023-07-19*

I bought this app when it first came out years ago, and it was about the only one on the market. I have used it, tried to use it, got so frustrated I quit using it, and I found that there are other apps out there, much cheaper or free that do as good or better job than this app. I would love to get my money back, but haven’t owned it since the very beginning. I’m sure that’s not a possibility. I do not recommend this app for anyone, low vision, no vision voiceover, user, etc.
Usually you get what you pay for with an app however, in this case you don’t!

### 1/5 — Too many changes. Period

*2022-03-03, version 3.4*

When I first bought this app it was one of the best reading document apps out there. But now it has gone down drastically. So many software updates on here and changing the user face of the platform. I remember when this app was called KNFB reader now it’s called something else they didn’t change the name about 23 times. And now I can barely use it. If I can get my money back I would.

### 1/5 — Your domain was inactivated

*2022-02-16, version 3.4*

Your domain OneStepreader.com was deactivated. Users have no access to support. Not starting out real good from the turnover from knfb to onestep reader.

### 1/5 — Stürzt nur noch ab

*2021-12-31*

### 1/5 — Does not open

*2021-04-29, version 3.3*

I was hoping that this most recent update would fix my issue where I was unable to open the app on my iPhone XR. Unfortunately it still does not open making this app completely unusable! I don’t understand why it will not open. It acts like it will open and then doesn’t.

### 1/5 — Why is there no update for 12 Pro Max iPhone

*2021-04-13, version 3.2*

THE KNFB App it’s not working on an iPhone 12 Pro Max, has never worked on this iPhone. the app has not been updated to work on the newer iPhones this cost a lot of money for this app and I am really surprised that you have not taking the time to fix this issue, it is now April and still nothing has been done..... (this is ridiculous) where is your professionalism.

### 1/5 — I Don’t Know if it’s Me, but This Is Unusable

*2021-02-18*

As a client of Low Vision Rehab I was referred this app to help offset strain and fatigue due to light sensitivity. I had seen this in use and at first when I used it it was fine. The second use that same day into the present, it no longer works as it should. I take a photo of my text book with no unusual font and it does the same as with any other text and font used - the text created has a bunch of numbers mixed in with the letters and it does not read correctly. It is unusable. I will make an appointment with a specialist and find out if it’s just me or if it is the app.

### 1/5 — Disappointed

*2020-06-25*

It’s not working anymore it’s crush all time I open it or I sent document to it I am using iPhone 8 and the last version of iOS what happened? I paid the hundred dollar for it can you help please? No I’m asking people to read the document for me I bought it for nothing...

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — One step reader

*2024-04-01*

Well, it reads PDF files great, and taking pictures is currently difficult but once you get one that it can read, it does very well, I would like to see this app be supported by video and without having to specifically line up a picture be able to read rapidly what it sees in real time, also I’d like the PDF files to be able to be downloaded directly without going through a cloud service.

### 5/5 — Satisfied customer

*2024-02-14*

Thank you for One Step Reader. I use several readers to read print, that work reasonably well, but find One Step is the best for me. It is the only reader that I have found that can read PDF's better than others, and it is handy when I want to save long documents.

Thank you for assisting blind people with independence and accessibility.

### 5/5 — Useful for my mail

*2023-11-23*

This is so helpful when I’m checking my mail. First I put the envelope in and it reads me the front of the envelope. and then I know whether I need to actually look at the inside. Then I open it up and scan each page. I don’t know how else I would check my mail without this program. It is really good

### 5/5 — Mr Lee Johnson

*2022-11-10, version 3.5*

KNFB is so helpful in life would be so lost without it find it so easy to use and works very well never had any problems with app

### 5/5 — Guy Yaméogo

*2021-09-04*

Funktioniert super.

### 5/5 — Reader app is extremely helpful

*2019-11-19, version 3.1*

This app is extremely useful in many parts. Of my daily Life. I have macular degeneration and cannot see the keyboard. I use the app many times each day. Henry Kaminer

### 5/5 — Great Program!

*2019-09-15*

This is an excellent program. As a new KNFB Reader user, I read all the directions first. I find that it works exactly as it is supposed to. I have read the negative reviews, and I wonder if previous users are trying to do things the old way, without having read the instructions. I love this program! Not to mention the convenience of having it on my iPhone.

### 5/5 — Amazing app

*2019-09-01*

This app does with most only promise to do but never deliver. It is a key tool in my every day work flow. It is worth the time and effort to learn how it works and how to best use it so that it fits into your daily flow.

Give it a try, you won’t be sorry and I’m sure you’ll love it as much if not more than I do, if that’s possible.
