### 3/5 — Listening Options Need Work

*2026-07-27, version 3.6.5*

Controller has delayed connection but works good most of the time. Biggest gripe is the lack of audio selectability. Cycling through all the listening options is terrible. Give me a single button for a particular listening option. It defaults to surround which is one option “ahead” of DD. If I want to listen in Dolby Digital I have to cycle through the entire list. Lame.

### 2/5 — Why????

*2026-04-25, version 3.6.3*

The RZ70 is phenomenal! But then it’s dragged down by a glitchy, half baked app that works only when the planets align? Why Onkyo?

### 3/5 — Multiple bug fixes but problems continue

*2026-04-05, version 3.6.2*

I’ve been using this app since released and it’s still buggy. I love it when it works, but it constantly disconnects from my LAN and won’t reconnect. My TX-NR686 receiver and iPhone are still connected to the network but the app says it’s disconnected. I have to delete the app and then setup again. It won’t find the receiver so I have to manually configure.

### 2/5 — What’s the point if I can’t just deep settings

*2026-02-28, version 3.4.55*

Barely a remote controller. Need to be able to access all settings from the phone to be worth picking up over the actual remote.

### 3/5 — Was great until it wasn’t

*2026-02-20, version 3.4.55*

I have TX-RZ70 and had no problems connecting or using the app to do basic adjustments. Over the past 3 months the Bluetooth and AirPlay functions started showing some random song that I can’t remove, play or chose another app to stream which renders the function useless. I’ve deleted and reinstalled the app and the song keeps coming up. Very frustrating and no support to fix.

### 1/5 — Still doesn't display the listening mode after however many years...

*2026-02-06, version 3.4.55*

It's just blank. Seriously, just a blank space where the listening mode should be. Makes me wonder if any has actually ever used this app?

### 1/5 — Pointless

*2026-01-24, version 3.4.15*

App never works. Constantly having to unplug the receiver to even get it to connect to it.

### 1/5 — Useless

*2026-01-15, version 3.4.15*

This app could be great. If it worked. Regularly fails to connect to my RZ30 and the only way to fix it is to delete and reinstall, which is utterly unacceptable for a company of the size and reputation of Onkyo. Apparently, they need to either fire all their devs or have them tweak something off the shelf that actually functions.

### 1/5 — Why bother

*2026-01-15, version 3.4.15*

If they are going to release such a buggy app why bother? Also Dirac doesn’t work well at all. The funny part is they have the audacity to charge for licenses.

### 4/5 — Onkyo app is nice but needs more

*2025-12-30, version 3.4.15*

I recently acquired an onkyo icon A50 and I have been enjoying it tremendously. The app has been nice enough to use and it is totally suitable for the task. I like the volume knob on the app with haptic feedback. It’s very intuitive.

I’d like to request that the engineers consider providing more information about the audio stream like actual bit rate for the DAC, amplifier voltages, temperature, whatever the micro controller gets to see I think it would be tremendous to double check that the amp is seeing the stream at the quality I intend.

### 1/5 — Doesnt support selecting listening modes 7.1

*2025-12-26, version 3.4.15*

When i select stereo surround, i cannot set all channels all thru the app. I can not enable all speakers anymore unless i go to the receiver settings and set configuration mode. Frustrating.

### 2/5 — Wifi connection issues

*2025-12-24, version 3.4.15*

The app constantly crashes and not been connecting to the wifi-☹️

### 2/5 — Buggy

*2025-12-22, version 3.4.15*

Periodically disconnects and not reconnecting to my RZ50. When it works it’s great. But it’s 2025… why is this an issue?

### 2/5 — Z2 Still lacks airplay & other controls

*2025-11-28, version 3.4.15*

Update: I finally gave up waiting for Onkyo to update this app for better music & airplay controls on Zone2. So finally, I connected my Wiim Pro Plus to the Onkyo line in input labeled “Strm Box” via RCA cables. I turn on the Onkyo Z2 and select streamer box input and set volume at a mid to high level. Then I airplay directly just to the Wiim or use Wiim home app to play, manage music to speakers on Z2. Now I have the option to control music volume on Z2 using my iphone volume buttons which doesn’t work using Onkyo controller app. Additionally, the Wiim allows me to balance and equalize as well as optimize the music listening experience of my Z2 speakers. Works really well.

Original post
Listening to music via airplay on my TX-NR6100, Zone1 is vastly different than on Zone2. Z2 even with latest updated app still lacks speaker level/balance and tone (treble, voice & bass) controls when playing music. Even my iphone volume button works on Z1 but not on Z2. Z2 should be made to work just like Z1 so you can make adjustments to music based on environment. Both zones need to add speaker LR balance as well. ONKYO has great products but the quality of the Controller app diminishes the value of this receiver. These changes are needed to significantly increase the listening experience. I emailed the company several months ago and they indicated they would pass this along to their technical team. Nothing yet.

### 1/5 — Each update breaks this app more!

*2025-11-23, version 3.4.15*

Every time this application is updated it breaks it. Now it’s completely unusable with my system. Uninstalled restarted my phone reinstalled several times to no avail. Does not find the device. Says the device is not on the Wi-Fi even though we’ve confirmed it is. I’m not sure what this company thinks they’re selling, but it’s an absolute piece of garbage app.

### 1/5 — Rarely works

*2025-11-19, version 3.4.15*

The app is so poor it’s hit and miss whether it will work or not. It often tells me that my receiver isn’t connected despite the network settings of the receiver saying it has 100% signal to the same router!

### 3/5 — Need improvement

*2025-11-11, version 3.4.15*

The main issue is the sound settings from the MOVIE button option to switch among Atmos, auto etc dies not work. Still need to use physical remote. It was working before the latest app update. Please fix this issue

### 1/5 — Y

*2025-10-31, version 3.4.15*

The app wasn't the most modern or perfect, but it worked well. After the last update, the app became inaccessible to blind people. The screen reader doesn't recognize the controls, the Focus gets lost, and it's practically unusable for blind people. It used to be average, but now it's terrible. Please fix this.

### 1/5 — v.3.4.15

*2025-10-17, version 3.4.15*

Seit v3.4.15 funktioniert bei mir gar nichts mehr. Die App findet keinerlei Geräte. Egal was ich mache. Neu Installation hat nicht geholfen und auch das manuelle hinzufügen hat nichts gebracht. Die Geräte werden dann zwar angezeigt, jedoch ist keine Verbindung möglich.

### 1/5 — Latest update is a EUA trap!

*2026-07-27, version 3.6.5*

I’M SO MAD! I updated this app just to find out that I can’t use it unless I agree to an EUA for a Google product that I don’t use and don’t plan to use! There’s no way out, you either agree or you can’t use the app! RIDICULOUS! It makes me feel like the whole app is being used to gather information about me regardless of using the Google app or not! I’d give it less than one star if I could.

### 1/5 — Constant connectivity issues

*2026-06-08, version 3.6.3*

My Onkyo receiver is Crutchfield’s Best Bang for the Buck of the Year, and for good reason. It sounds beautiful and provides all the power I personally need. Unfortunately, it’s also plagued by connectivity issues because of the app.

I’ve owned the receiver for a couple of months, and during that time I’ve had to reinstall the app and go through the setup process many times—probably a dozen times. The app frequently loses its Wi-Fi connection, and then it loses connection to the receiver itself.

As a result, my listening sessions often begin with 20 minutes of troubleshooting and setup. That’s simply unacceptable for a product at this level. I’m keeping it for now in the hope that Onkyo addresses these issues with a future app update.

### 1/5 — No Connection

*2026-05-04, version 3.6.3*

RZ50 owner here. The receiver is great but the app is absolutely worthless. If I’m determined and have enough patience, I can cycle through unplugging my receiver and get it to connect temporarily. It’s just not worth it though. I came from a Denon receiver and their app is much, much more reliable.

### 1/5 — Random

*2026-05-01, version 3.6.3*

Just failed to connect one day and never was able to connect again

### 1/5 — Mise à jour

*2026-04-04, version 3.6.2*

Depuis la dernière mise à jour impossible de me connecter. Proverbe qui dit ‘’ la patente marche bien, ne touche pas à la patente ‘’ où l’art de scraper quelques chose qui fonctionne.

### 1/5 — Bad app. Worthless

*2026-04-01, version 3.4.55*

Horrible useless app. Does not work. Buggy. Counter intuitive and dumb.

### 1/5 — Bad app. Worthless

*2026-03-16, version 3.4.55*

Horrible useless app. Does not work. Buggy. Counter intuitive and dumb.

### 1/5 — Doesnt support selecting listening modes 7.1

*2026-03-08, version 3.4.55*

### 1/5 — Lack of VoiceOver support

*2026-03-04, version 3.4.55*

I am blind and use a feature on my iPhone called VoiceOver that is a screen reader. The app used to be fully compatible with VoiceOver and speak everything to me now it is very buggy and quite a job to select an input so app developers please get it tested out with VoiceOver willing to help in any way I can

### 1/5 — Waste

*2026-02-28, version 3.4.55*

Don’t bother

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — What’s with the low rating

*2025-12-10, version 3.4.15*

I love this app! Works perfectly controlling my receiver and more. Very stylish and easy to use as well. Kudos Onkyo dudes.

### 5/5 — Language repaired

*2025-10-13, version 3.4.15*

Thanks for repairing language problem. English is back again.

### 5/5 — Top

*2025-10-08, version 3.4.14*

Klappt alles super und ist übersichtlich

### 5/5 — Official Onkyo app

*2025-08-28, version 3.2.2*

Way more convenient than a physical remote and the control is way beyond what one could expect. Instantly connects and in full control of all sources and sound. What more could you actually want from an application to control your receiver? Two stars is shocking. They did a great job with this.

### 5/5 — Works great

*2025-03-14, version 3.2.2*

The font is very small. Even with the largest screen and bifocals it’s just too darn small. A low vision / accessibility mode would be greatly appreciated.

### 5/5 — Awesome🔥

*2025-03-10, version 3.2.2*

This app is great as it places all the control in your hands. It is very easy to use Definitely a great option to have. Also gives you the option to use the included Dirac software room calibration. I would highly recommend it.

### 5/5 — Works great

*2025-01-26, version 3.2.2*

I don’t know why so many are having issues with this app. It works as advertised. Setting up with Dirac Live is simple and straightforward. The only hiccup is making sure the ambient noise in the room is low enough for a stable reading. Once set up I can easily check things within the AVR and it really makes volume control a breeze!

### 5/5 — Dirac Live error DU-106

*2025-01-08, version 3.2.2*

Dirac Live stopped working after updating the app. Always ends with DU-106 error

### 5/5 — Works just fine with the RZ50

*2025-01-02, version 3.2.2*

I’ve had no issues with the app - does what it says. I’m not sure why so many people have so many issues - but they might want to confirm their phone is on the same local network as their phone. If you’re trying to connect via cellular or a different router’s wifi / network inside your home it will not work. I’m going to guess that 90% of people complaining are having that issue. Onkyo should have a message clearly saying that in simple English and I bet their app rating would go up 2 points.

### 5/5 — Amazing app, but I have a few suggestions

*2024-12-22*

To start off, this app is great and works like a charm every time. I am a very big person in ui interphases and I’d like to say that the ui is phenomenal. Looks amazing and is intuitive for the most part. I’m glad to see that the developers of this app continue to update bugs and issues. And because y’all update the app, I’d like to point out a few suggestions. First, I’d like to see the same HDMI CEC digital remotes, present in zone one, to also be present in the zone two section, so I don’t always have to alternate between zones in the app. Secondly, I’d like to see the MODE button present in one of the blank spots of the remote, so I don’t need to have both my phone and physical remote in hand.
Also talking about zone two, whenever I select dts - play fi, zone two shuts off. And finally, this may be pushing it, but it would be so awesome if there was a feature called ZONE 2 LFE, which would enable only the LFE channel in zone one, but not the rest of the speakers, so when using zone two, the speakers get a little assistance from the subwoofer placed back in the main theater. If the developers of this app can pull that off, that would be great! Those are just some things I thought would make sense through the years that I’ve owned my Onkyo. Thank you for creating an amazing app and for maintaining it. Oh yea, by the way, that new app logo looks great!
