Your hike is saved on your phone before anything else. Not in an account, not after a sync: the recording, the route and the map are on the device in your hand from the moment you press start. It works with no signal and no account. Download a trail’s topo tiles once and follow it with the radio off. Finish and save a hike with no session, no server and no bars. Apple Watch runs the same navigation, not a remote control for it — the route, the off-route alarm and the eyes-free cues are on the watch, and stay there when the phone is in your pack. The saved hike offers Continue hike and puts you straight back on the trail. • Start on Apple Watch is now the main button on a trail, and it says what it is waiting for while the watch starts and asks for permission. • Other routes from this trailhead are drawn over the route you are reading, so you can see whether it is the same walk or a different way up. • Your profile shows each hike with its photographs. A hike with no photograph draws the shape of the walk instead, from the phone — private hikes included. • The Live Activity leads with your next fork or turn and counts down to arrival every second; the lock screen adds battery and the climb still ahead. CHANGED • Deleting a hike with photographs shows them first and offers to save them to your library. • A watch already recording is offered "finish that hike and start this" instead of an error. The hike it ends is saved. • The trail sheet keeps its height when you swipe back, and dragging it no longer drags the page underneath. • Navigation's status line is translated; it had been English in every language. REMOVED • Navigation's layers button — it toggled route colouring for the whole app, which lives in Map style. • Max saver's screen no longer lists battery, ETA and pace; all three are one tap away on the map. ### 1.17 — 2026-08-26 NEW • Max saver · eyes-free now shows one large direction arrow on true black. It is green on route, red off route, brightens when tapped, and dims after 10 seconds. • Trailheads Near You includes trails you created, and event setup can suggest a meeting point. • Activity recaps now include the photos from your walk. CHANGED • Finished walks save to your phone first and sync when possible. Accounts stay optional until you share, publish, or join the community. • Final distance filters stationary GPS drift while preserving the complete raw track. ### 1.16 — 2026-08-24 • Swipe back naturally: trail, activity, profile, photo, event, and recap screens now follow your finger horizontally without blinking. • Trail details, Stamp Board, topo/3D previews, and activity sharing now have cleaner controls, spacing, and defaults. ### 1.15 — 2026-08-20 • Your trails are on your Apple Watch without sending them there — anything you download or save syncs on its own, many trails at a time.
