Fortunately, it's only rarely needed to install firmware updates (well hidden). ### 3/5 — Great Hardware - Terrible App *2025-09-13, version 4.4.6* The hardware is great and has been rock solid for me so far. But this app is terrible, ugly confusing UI and the firmware upgrade procedure is really fiddly and annoying. I’ve read they are planning on switching updating through matter/the apple home app. If that’s true once that’s added I won’t have any complaints since the app won’t be required. STILL NO Landscape mode for iPadOS, which i have asked them for several times and only Onvis and Nanoleaf won’t due it, even/hue/ikea/aqara/vocolinc/sonos/all others can do Landscape mode on iPad, yet Onvis just won’t do it. Because not all brands have macOS apps and isn’t a device option for adding devices, it’s a big deal. Temperature history is totally broken, and is the main reason I’m trying this device. - it’s the wrong temperature - only allows emailing, why not pull up a share sheet for the CSV and let me decide how to share - UI spacing is super weird ### 2/5 — Needs work for the motion/temperature sensor *2024-02-13, version 4.2.0* The sensor works fine as a HomeKit sensor, I only installed the app to get logged temperature data off the app. Two problems, one is that even though it has two months of history, there seems to be no way to download it all at once. You can only email yourself a csv file one day at a time. Which makes incredibly tedious to use for pulling those logs (and motion data and humidity are separate, so you’d have to do it three times for each day). And just for fun, the logs have the wrong data. The data log shows exactly 30 degrees F colder than the actual temperature, so in addition to a several tap process to email yourself the logs 365 days a year if you want to get the data off continuously, you’ll need to add 30 to the logs on the other end. I refuse to use any app (on my iPad) that works only in portrait. When I use the App on my iPhone, I’ll review again, or edit this one with additional comments on the Onvis Utility. I would encourage Onvis to spend some time with the App and make it universal, by that I mean that it takes advantage of the device it’s on and use its format for best presentation. As another user mentioned, it doesn’t allow me to add and manage my Onvis product so that I can update its firmware. ### 1/5 — Completely Broken *2026-02-15, version 4.4.9* App is completely unresponsive to Add Accessory (+) button, and in fact, it seems to do nothing at all. Doesn't see or configure my HS2 switch, ever. The switch can be configured directly in Apple Homekit, but it becomes unresponsive to Homekit after anywhere from a few minutes to several days. When it becomes unresponsive, rebooting if the switch or Homekit does not make it responsive, so it must be deleted and Add Accessory used to reconfigure. Wasted way too many hours on the device trying to keep it working. Allerdings hat dem Auge dass dieser Sensor deutlich günstiger als die Konkurrenz ist. Die App wird lediglich für Updates benötigt und dafür ist sie vollkommen ausreichend alles andere wird über die Home App erledigt von daher ignoriert die schlechten Bewertungen man muss das Teil natürlich auch bedienen können! Top verwende den SMS1 App stürzte bisher noch nie ab weder iPhone XS noch auf meinem iPhone 12 Mini ### 5/5 — Still works with HomeKit *2020-12-19, version 3.3.3* The low ratings on the app gave me pause on updating the SMS1 motion sensors. Why update it when everything’s working fine. However, the red notification number on the home add finally got to me and made me do it. I’m glad to say everything still works perfectly fine. I updated from version 2.3.3 to 2.5.3 and there were no hiccups. HomeKit and all my automations still work just fine. ### 5/5 — Motion Sensors (SMS1) work better now *2020-12-07, version 3.3.1* After updating the firmware of the SMS1’s, they now work better with Apple HomeKit. I have to say, I was worried it would do more damage than good.
