## What is Onward?

Onward | Make time for what you love

This app started as a little tool for my tennis coach and the friends I play with.

My coach is almost too popular. She stopped taking new students long ago, yet she's so fully booked that even we can only get a limited number of lessons.

Besides teaching us, she has her own tennis training, conditioning, rehab and English lessons. Add everyday life, and all those plans end up buried in WeChat conversations.

More lessons mean more accounts to sort out. Group lessons are especially tricky: court costs, lesson fees, each person's share, who's paid and who hasn't. Every amount needs checking. At month's end, she isn't quite sure how many lessons she's taught, how much she's collected or what's left after expenses.

So I thought: why not make her a little tool?

Something that makes scheduling simple and keeps the money clear. Ideally, with nothing complicated to learn. She could talk to it just as she messages me:

"Schedule a lesson for Xiaolu tomorrow, 7 to 9."

"I just spent 10 yuan on parking."

"Who still owes lesson fees?"

"Where did my money go this month?"

"How have my income and expenses changed since last month?"

Tell it the plans and costs, and it helps record them. When you want to know something, just ask. No digging through WeChat, hunting down bills or adding everything up on a calculator.

That leaves my coach more time and energy to teach us tennis! And when she's not teaching, she can properly unwind. That's where "Make time for what you love" comes from.

What can Onward help you do?

1. Plan and track money by chatting
Create plans, reschedule, and log income and expenses. Add missing details in conversation and review anything that needs confirmation before saving.

2. Coaches plan; students see the details
Once accounts are linked, lessons and bills sync to students automatically. Who, when, where and how much, without both sides entering everything again.

3. Calculate each person's group lesson fee
Calculate each student's lesson and court fees using your settings. Record payments received and see who's paid and who hasn't.

4. Automatic lesson and payment totals for each student
Open a student's details to see lesson and payment records, without searching chats, counting lessons or adding up amounts.

5. Plan personal events and track everyday spending
Use events to plan tennis, conditioning or other activities, and record payments separately in your money records.

6. Look back at your time, earnings and spending
View monthly and yearly lesson totals, busy and quiet periods, and changes in income and expenses. Coaches see payments and costs; students see tennis spending. Check the stats and charts, or ask AI to explore further.

7. Record yuan and dollars
Keep CNY and USD entries in their original currencies. Choose a reporting currency to view income and expenses together.

8. Choose what your home screen shows
Focus on today or look ahead to the next three days. Add personal events, tasks and reminders alongside lessons.

9. Today's plans, on your Lock Screen
See today's list without reopening the app, and check things off as you finish.

10. Choose from six languages
Use Simplified or Traditional Chinese, English, Japanese, Spanish or French. Language and currency are separate. No ads.

Play well. Live well. Make time for what you love.

P.S. If you play tennis, come join us. Whether you coach, take lessons or meet friends for a game, keep your plans and costs here. And if you don't play tennis, you're welcome too. Use Onward to organize your day and keep track of your money.

Initial AI activation supports verified App Store storefronts outside mainland China. Access stays with the same Onward account. AI requires separate data-processing consent and internet access; manual features remain available without it. The app records payments, not money transfers.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.0.5 — 2026-10-30

Goodbye, Friday. Hello, weekend!

- Events, to-dos, and lessons can now overlap
- Fixed some AI scheduling issues with recurring lessons
- Improved group lesson payments and contact name updates
- Fixed calendar date displays and adjusted time grid spacing
- View and edit events directly from the heatmap
- Improved translations and simplified interface text

### 1.0.4 — 2026-10-29

It's late October in Beijing and the heating still isn't on. It takes courage to play tennis at 7 a.m. Out on the court, the sun peeks out around 7:40, and the ball starts to glow.

Product updates:
1. Added an animated transition between day and week views.
2. Added a month view.
3. One person on a certain little red app said linking contacts threw an error. Fixed it.
4. Another said the app wouldn't open on iOS 18. Made some compatibility adjustments.

### 1.0.2 — 2026-10-28

Practised my serve today. My coach said my butt was sticking out a mile

I've recovered emotionally. And made a sideways week view while I was at it.

As if improving my tennis weren't ambitious enough, I'm also getting ready to launch in 170+ countries and regions. Oh, and Onward now speaks six languages. The newcomers: Traditional Chinese, French, Spanish and Japanese. Why those four? GPT suggested them.

Back on court tomorrow, 7–9 a.m. Wish me luck—and a few decent shots.

Aha, almost forgot: you can now add an expense when creating an event. Say, “Serve practice, 35 yuan spent.” Save the event, and your money records update automatically.

### 1.0.1 — 2026-10-27

What's new in 1.0.1

I was still a little excited after launching my first app, so I added two little "aha!" features:
1. See today's lessons and to-dos right on your Lock Screen. Flip through pages and check things off as you finish.
2. A new batch of cute icons for your money records. Bookkeeping deserves to be cute, too.

Now for the big ones:
1. Linked contacts: Connect with a linking code to sync the lessons and bills you share. Coaches, this one's for you!
2. A profile for each contact: See lesson counts, payments received and bills in one place. You can even give each person a little animal avatar.
3. Automatic expense records for linked bills: Say I'm your coach and you're my student. I create a tennis lesson for today from 7 to 9 and add you. You pay me 500 yuan outside the app. Once I confirm receipt in the lesson, your bill shows as paid and a 500-yuan lesson expense is automatically added to your money records. (The money needs to have actually been paid! Tapping to confirm doesn't transfer money or mark the lesson as completed.)

I fixed a few little bugs along the way, too:
Conflicting edits across devices: Ended up with two versions of the same lesson after editing on different devices? You can now compare them and choose which one to keep.
