### 2/5 — Useless

*2026-07-03, version 3.2.7*

This app is useless as a free version. Just about every click it wants me to upgrade. Deleted it after two days.

### 4/5 — Pretty great App, could use some features

*2026-05-26, version 3.2.2*

I love this app, it’s like Fishbrain but much much better as a tool. My main wish would just be the ability to add water bodies on the app, as many small ponds that are otherwise named on topographic maps don’t appear as bodies of water to add catches to

### 1/5 — Charged full price on 50% off

*2026-05-04, version 3.1.8*

I downloaded it and got the pop up to use for free, get premium, or pro. Premium was 49.99 per year and was too much for just getting the app but a pop up offered a one time 50% off coupon then 49.99 next year so I took it but my card shows it was charged the full price with tax of 51.91. Very very disappointed in this fraudulent bait and switch tactic. The contact us support option in the app does is completely broken and unusable.

### 3/5 — Pretty disappointed in measurement feature

*2026-05-04, version 3.1.8*

You pay alot for this app and the one thing I need it for, measurement feature, is super buggy and rarely works. I’d change to a 5 star if this was fixed.

### 1/5 — Useless

*2026-04-30, version 3.1.8*

This is the most useless app I’ve ever seen. It literally is just a map with zero information about fish.

### 1/5 — Upgrade spam

*2026-04-23, version 3.1.6*

Every time i click on something i get prompted to upgrade. Seems like all they care about is money.

### 1/5 — Would’ve gave it no stars if I could downloaded for high hopes but this app literally sucks most

*2026-04-14, version 3.1.5*

Would’ve gave it no stars if I could downloaded for high hopes but this app literally sucks most of the body’s of water everywhere don’t have anything , and for 89 dollars a year this is pointless just use Fishbrain , shows you everything everywhere

### 1/5 — Rug pull subscription

*2026-04-06, version 3.1.4*

Have been a “premium” member since December and suddenly there are “Pro” features which are unavailable. In December there was no designation and Premium was the highest level subscription until it wasn’t. Wish i kept TroutRoutes. No i’m stuck in the annoying mid tier.

### 5/5 — Guide arsenal approved

*2026-03-05, version 3.1.0*

This app allows me save all of my favorite put-in / take-out pins, monitor stream conditions, record route lines, and track distances. It also has a journal option that allows me to record key facts about spots to reference the next time I’m out on the water

### 5/5 — Wow…. Very well thought out

*2026-03-05, version 3.1.0*

You can tell the thought and intention that went into this app! Has all the information you need on the rivers you want… and unlike all the others this is a fishing app for fishermen.. not just species related.. thats a fantastic resource and makes it the go to resource for your trip planning.

The fact that it feels like every time I open the app there’s new features is enough for me to be a lifetime customer! That intelligent chat.. holy smokes that works like a dream.. it’s as if you have all the old fishing buddies wisdom right in your hands!!

Get the subscription you won’t regret it!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — There is no free version

*2026-08-10, version 3.2.9*

Upgrades should be paid, but can't even get basic info on a fishing spot for free.

### 1/5 — Overpriced AI Slop

*2026-08-07, version 3.2.9*

Former pro member here. You know the anglers that blow ludicrous amounts of money on flashy gear that doesn’t actually work very well and they’re insanely proud of it? Those are the people running OnWater. Their massive push to make everything revolve around AI shows that they give zero F’s about protecting fisheries or for local fly and tackle shops. On top of that, for $90/year you can access satellite imagery that’s more grainy and out of date than what you can get for free on Google Maps. They’re also really trying to push the integration of social media aspects into the app, which raises serious concerns about whether points you save are actually private or if it’s available for every angler that wants to use barbed treble hooks to snag trout in your favorite hole. Do yourselves a favor. Go to the search bar, type in TroutRoutes, download it, buy the one state annual membership for 1/5 of the cost, and know you won’t have AI slop popping up every 2 seconds when you’re trying to digitally scout fishing spots.

### 1/5 — Free flow data from the government put behind a paywall

*2026-08-01, version 3.2.8*

Trash app money grab

### 1/5 — Chill on the AI

*2026-07-14, version 3.2.7*

Probably first time I’ve been compelled to write a review in a decade. My goodness your app stresses me out sending notifications multiple times per day about using the AI features

App works great aside from this

### 1/5 — Garbage

*2026-06-30, version 3.2.7*

Can’t even try the app. As soon as you click on it it’s like a pop-up every one second.

### 1/5 — Too many adds

*2026-06-27, version 3.2.7*

Adds pop up constantly trying to get you to pay for upgrades. Deleted

### 1/5 — Pointless

*2026-06-23, version 3.2.6*

I signed up for OnWater and thought I had canceled my subscription, only to find out I was charged for a full year. While that was frustrating, the bigger issue is that the app simply isn’t worth the money.
The most useful feature is locating nearby boat ramps. Beyond that, there isn’t much value that can’t be found for free through other fishing apps, state resources, weather services, or a quick Google search.
The app relies heavily on user-generated fishing reports and catches, but most anglers aren’t interested in sharing productive fishing spots with strangers. Because of that, there isn’t enough quality information being shared to make the community features useful. The platform also appears to have a relatively small user base, which further limits the value of those features.
The AI fishing assistant is another disappointment. It feels like a watered-down version of ChatGPT or Google’s AI tools. The answers are often generic and don’t provide any information I couldn’t find elsewhere. If you’re advertising AI as a premium feature, it needs to offer something unique or useful enough to justify its existence.
Customer support wasn’t much better. The support chat bot doesn’t actually provide meaningful assistance—it simply tells you someone will contact you by email. If that’s the case, why not just provide a direct email option from the start instead of making users go through a chat system that doesn’t solve anything?
The pricing structure also feels excessive. There are multiple paid tiers, but the lower-priced membership is so limited that it barely feels worthwhile. Many of the features locked behind the higher tier are things I would expect any paying subscriber to receive.
When compared to Fishbrain and several other fishing apps, OnWater falls short in terms of community, features, and overall value. I paid for a year and honestly feel like I wasted my money. Unless the user base grows significantly and the premium features improve, I wouldn’t recommend paying for this app.

### 1/5 — Can’t login or signup?

*2026-05-24, version 3.2.2*

I was advertised this add on Facebook, I do a lot of fishing and thought I’d give it a chance. App downloaded fine, but if I try to login or register it just goes right back to the login page and the login buttons won’t work to Sign in with Apple or Google. The app is broken or something. It’s not my internet connection, or my phone, or anything like that, the app just simply won’t work. I’d love for this to be resolved so I can actually give a legitimate review, but right now, until this issue is fixed, I’ll give it 1 star. Can’t login, can’t do anything.

### 1/5 — Fish

*2026-05-13, version 3.2.0*

I can’t even get the app to open up.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great fishing app for finding new water

*2026-08-27, version 3.3.0*

I’ve been using onWater to find new places to fish and plan trips closer to home. The maps make it easy to check access, public and private land, water conditions, and save spots before heading out. I especially like having streamflows, weather, and offline maps all in one place. Really useful for both quick after-work missions and bigger fishing trips.

### 5/5 — Awesome app, just could use some extra features

*2026-07-14, version 3.2.7*

I tried the trial, and after it ran out I realized I had to get the plus subscription. It’s awesome being able to look at how streams and rivers connect and what species are known to be there, as well as being able to know who’s property I’m trespassing on. The AI fish scanner for the journal is awesome, and I love just being able to upload a picture of my fish and everything about it is pretty much instantly logged.

As much as I love this app, I will say that it does have a few misses. For one, many of the AI descriptions for waterbodies is generally correct, but often veers off course from the actual nature of the waters. I wish there was a way to suggest edits to the descriptions. Another thing is that not every body of water is mapped. In my small town there are many streams and ponds that I know contain fish that simply aren’t accounted for on the map and thus I can never log my catches accurately. Being able to suggest missed geographical features such as waterbodies, bridges, and waterfalls should be an added feature.

Despite my lengthy gripes, I honestly love this app and I hope to see it develop into a thriving community of anglers. Rock on onWater dev team, I love what you’ve done so far and can’t wait to see what you accomplish in the future.

### 5/5 — Best app ever

*2026-07-07, version 3.2.7*

The greatest app when it comes to fishing or hunting. It’s a life saver also and it’s an important app to have in the back country

### 5/5 — Great app

*2026-06-18, version 3.2.6*

Loving this app and all the features offered. Coming from another popular app, I’m happy to have made the switch. You can tell this app was designed by fishermen with fishermen in mind

### 5/5 — Idk

*2026-06-07, version 3.2.3*

This is a great app

### 5/5 — The best game

*2026-05-12, version 3.1.8*

I love this Game

### 5/5 — Great App!

*2026-05-06, version 3.1.8*

A great fishing app in every way. Wish the gear section was more customizable in the journal.

### 5/5 — First Look

*2026-05-05, version 3.1.8*

Impressed by the wealth of knowledge that can be learned so quickly about a stream. All sorts of species and locality information. I’m excited to start adding photos and saving conditions to see what lines up.

### 5/5 — Hi

*2026-04-26, version 3.1.7*

Hi

### 5/5 — This app rocks

*2026-03-05, version 3.1.0*
