### 4/5 — Bug Fix Required

*2026-06-25*

It is a wonderful app, ngl but there are still some huge bugs that when we take the video, the video recording stops in the middle of it and it wont saves. I lost some datas because of it. Make sure to fix it asap

**Developer response:** Could you reach out to me at riccqi@pm.me? I would love to learn more details and figure out why this is happening for you. Thank you!

### 4/5 — Needs Audio Levels

*2026-06-18*

Needs ability to monitor/adjust audio levels and to choose microphones, as well as use with Bluetooth mics and to be able to monitor with a Bluetooth headphone.

### 4/5 — Working well but

*2026-03-27*

Almost perfect. But 4 stars will be charged to 5 when I will be able to delete files by swipe or selecting them and delete them all.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback! Bulk deletion has been added in the latest 2.1 version.

### 3/5 — Great app, but the camera sometimes freezes

*2026-03-11*

I actually really like this camera app. As someone who makes a lot of content, the overall design and workflow feel great. It’s very creator-friendly and easy to use.

But there’s one issue that keeps happening.

After recording around 7–10 clips, the camera will sometimes freeze while recording. The image just stops moving and that whole clip becomes unusable. It doesn’t happen every time, but it happens often enough that it’s frustrating.

For content creators this is a pretty big problem, because we can easily miss important moments when the camera freezes.

Other than that, the app is honestly great and I’d love to keep using it.
I really hope the developers can fix this freezing bug in a future update.

If that gets fixed, this would easily be a 5-star app for me.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your kind feedback. I have tried addressing the freezing issue in the latest 2.1 update. Could you try and let me know if this is still an issue? I look forward to hearing from you!

### 4/5 — Not working

*2025-11-30*

brought your app but not getting open of stabilisation standard and cinamatic on 4:3 also not having 4k on 60p after purchased

### 2/5 — Платно для 4К

*2025-11-21*

### 4/5 — Easy and effective

*2025-11-08*

I really like the simplicity to record open gate

**Developer response:** You are the 🐐

### 2/5 — not worth it

*2025-10-25*

I've seen others say there are alternatives, but if you actually want the whole sensor, this is the only video app I've seen to actually expose full sensor 4k video.

even the built in quicktake video feature, at least for 15 gen and below iphones, can do full sensor video but only at 1440p in sdr.

so despite having that feature that I have really been looking for in a camera app; all the other stuff people have said about the payments, login requirement, and the fact that it wants access to my whole camera roll just to save anything is crazy. and makes this app not worth it for me.

the 4k 4:3 video on here doesn't have any option for stabilization either, which I get might require a bit of a crop in, but I think that should be an option.

idk, this app is too greedy and shady for me. it's probably trying to harvest your camera roll if you let it. especially since it holds saving any video at all hostage behind allowing it that full access.

**Developer response:** Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts. A few clarifications:
- The app does not require a login.
- Photos access is an : On iOS, full access to your photo library is required if you want the app to also save and delete items you recorded. This is Apple’s design, not data collection.
- Privacy: The App Store’s App Privacy section for this app explicitly states “Data Not Collected.” The app does not collect ANY personal data.
- 4K 4:3 stabilization: At the moment, Apple’s APIs don’t provide sensor-crop stabilization for full-sensor 4:3 at 4K. This will be true for any other iOS camera app.

I’d appreciate it if you could update or retract the statements about logins, data collection, and Photos access, as they’re not accurate and can harm OpenCam's credibility. I’m a solo developer working hard to build something useful. I’m always open to constructive feedback, but inaccurate reviews like these really hurts. ### 4/5 — Great App

*2025-09-18*

I’m curious as to why I can’t shoot in 4k with the apple log colour space. I imagine that if it’s true open gate, shouldn’t it cover a sensor surface area that can resolve more than 4k if needed? I’m not an expert, so I’m curious.
As for requested features, I’d love to have the ability to lock in my 180° shutter with a variable ISO that automatically compensates changing exposure.
I’d also love some sort of tool to ensure correct exposure (like histogram or my favourite: false colour)
I’d also like to see more aspect ratios with horizontal and vertical overlays you have at the top left-hand corner. I’d love to be able to punch in my wide screen, cinematic aspect ratio while recording.
I’d also love to be able to rearrange the recording tools at the bottom of the screen (I’m a right hander and I would love to have the zoom button closer to my right side which I would use more often…instead of the focus button which I rarely use)
Great app overall folks. Keep it up.

### 2/5 — scam

*2025-09-09*

prores and log are 1080p 30fps only lmaoo

**Developer response:** Hey there, with the new OpenCam 2.0 update, you can now record Apple Log in HD+ (which is 1440x1920) at up to 60FPS. 4K+ open gate recording is now supported in ProRes too.

I really appreciate your patience while I continue improving the app. If these updates improves things for you, I’d be really grateful if you could consider updating your rating. Early reviews have a big impact on a new app like OpenCam.
And if you still run into issues, please reach out to me anytime at riccqi@pm.me. I personally read and reply to every email.

### 4/5 — Wow

*2025-08-08, version 1.1*

People probably say opengate it the Best feature of this app butThis is the first phone camera that gets whiter balance right on auto. Developers please don’t ruin it on update.
Fix the advance overlay. Make it a row on top or bottom instead of big square in the the left side of screen. Enable the ProRes on iPhone 14 and regular iPhone 15 like blackmagic.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — App crashes & doesn’t save

*2025-12-24*

App crashed multiple times and didn’t save the video I was recording.

**Developer response:** Sorry about the bad experience with app crashes! I have addressed this in the latest 2.1 update and early beta feedback have been positive. Could you try it again and see if the issues are addressed? Thank you!

### 1/5 — Awful app

*2025-12-04, version 2.0.3*

Only allows limited “saves” per day on free, not disclosed until you hit the limit so this is totally useless unless you want to pay them the extortionate monthly charge

### 1/5 — Video lost/stuttering

*2025-12-03, version 2.0.3*

A terrible bug! I have the premium plan, but the video starts very delayed compared to when I pressed the record, and sometimes would not even pop up in the app after recording. Have lost so much footage.

Even worse, when viewing the final footage, there’s noticeable stutter.

### 1/5 — Tá travando muito

*2025-10-20*

Tá travando pra salvar na galeria. Não dá pra salvar todas fotos num clique. E se por pra salvar auto na galeria, dobra o uso de espaço. Tá difícil

### 1/5 — Paywalled pro features 👎

*2025-10-20*

Why pay a subscription for the exact same features Apple final cut camera, black magic camera, and many others do for free?

### 1/5 — No option for 4K HDR

*2025-10-03, version 1.1.1*

I heard about this app in an iPhone review and decided to try it out, but then I found out you can’t record HDR video if you shoot 4K. It’s 2025. It should be standard. SDR video looks so bland, ugly and lifeless

### 1/5 — Cannot switch front to rear cam

*2025-09-13, version 1.1.1*

I cannot seem to re-switch the app to use the rear camera after switching it to front. Even after restart it wont switch when I press the button for switching. I literally need to reinstall just to get to the rear camera.

### 1/5 — scam

*2025-09-12*

Log is premium feature, which I not get after purchasing.

**Developer response:** Thank you for trying out OpenCam, and I’m sorry for any confusion.
Apple Log is a feature that’s only supported on iPhone Pro models, starting from the iPhone 15 Pro and above. This limitation applies to all iPhone camera apps, as it’s defined by Apple’s system-level support.

If you do have a compatible device but are unable to enable Apple Log in OpenCam, please feel free to reach out to me at riccqi@pm.me. I’ll make sure we get it sorted out for you.

As an independent developer, every review genuinely makes a difference. One-star reviews can really affect the app’s visibility and future development. If the app works as described after double-checking, I’d be deeply grateful if you could consider updating your review. Your support and understanding mean a lot.

### 2/5 — not worth it

reply to the dev reply:
okay, assuming nothing about this app has changed since I wrote the original review (I think a couple months ago), I don't remember what I was referring to by log in, so I'll take that specific piece out since you say it now as if you never asked for that.

but downloading this app again now, it does still look like you want way more money for basic features than I am interested in spending, and it does still look like you require full camera roll access to save anything.

for me this is not cool.
you could save video with just add only permissions, or at the very least accept limited access with no photos selected like a lot of other 3rd party camera apps accept currently.
I'm actually surprised this app distinguishes between full access and empty limited access granted and I see no reason to require my actual full camera roll to be shared with you unless you actually want to do something with my preexisting photos.

maybe this is something you haven't considered, or some glitch in the permission check implementation in this app, but from my perspective this behavior looks weird.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the detailed follow-up. You’re right to be cautious about photo-library permissions, and I understand why the current behavior feels uncomfortable.

OpenCam does not collect or upload personal data, and there’s no login requirement. The full Photos access prompt is related to how the app currently saves and manages recorded videos in the Photos library, not because I want access to people’s existing photos. That said, I understand your point about add-only or limited Photos access, and I’m going to review the permission flow to see if saving can work with less access.

On 4K 4:3 stabilization: I agree that would be useful. At the moment, Apple’s camera APIs don’t appear to provide stabilized full-sensor 4:3 capture at 4K, but I’ll update the app if and when Apple makes that available.

Thanks again for the feedback. Even where I disagree with parts of the review, this is useful and helps me improve the app.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Not bad at all

*2025-11-18*

I was really sceptical about this one but I have to say it’s really good - nice interface, no bugs and it’s not useless in free mode 👍

### 5/5 — Melhor app de app engate

*2025-11-10*

O Richard é o desenvolvedor mais aberto que conheço. Reportei problemas e ele prontamente respondeu e me ajudou, além de ajustar o que poderia ser ajustado. Estou adorando o app e usando em meus trabalhos. É o melhor app de open gate.

### 5/5 — Current version shoots 4k open gate in log!

*2025-10-27*

I just want to mention here that a lot of the reviews here and on YouTube are out of date. The current version shoots 4k open gate in Apple Log 2 in whatever codec you choose! Freaking AWESOME!

### 5/5 — Fantastic App

*2025-10-20, version 1.1.1*

Great app. Fantastic layout, with all controls easily accessible. Great quality video. The SDR limitation is Apple’s fault, not the app developers.

### 5/5 — Great App for many reasons

*2025-10-03, version 1.1.1*

The app is beautiful, it’s simple with a lot of depth. There are many options for all shooters with many different styles of filming. Being able to use the full sensor on my phone has been a game changer for the way I shoot professional video and also home videos.

### 5/5 — 10/10 app for utilising the whole camera sensor

*2025-09-28, version 1.1.1*

Excellent app that’s simple to use. It’s kinda crazy that it’s not a feature even on the Blackmagic app.

### 5/5 — Awesome!

*2025-08-02*

App looks great and it really does capture a wider aspect fov… it’s not just cropping 16:9 footage to simulate open gate recording. UI is very well done. Love the zoom and exposure controls.

### 5/5 — Fantastic! Footage looks great

*2025-08-01, version 1.1*

I found this app on a YouTube video. I’ve been using Kino to shoot apple log video, but this is my new app.

Even though it “only” shoots 1080p, the video looks so nice and exposure is great.

Would love to see feature of adding luts in the app. I’ve been adding luts using Kino. Also mic control, I had a video where the mic was weird and would be great to control that.

Please keep development going!

### 5/5 — Very promising

*2025-07-31, version 1.1*

Incredible app, but setting exposure manually is far too fiddly. Would love the option to lock shutter speed using the 180° rule and enable auto ISO.

### 5/5 — Very good

*2025-07-30*

Very good implementation with actual log output unlike pearla which just simulates it for much worse results. Only thing I would ask for is LUT preview during shooting and exposure lock via long press. Otherwise very well made.
