Scummy forced payments

This app is NOT free. Do not download it. It's another one of those dumb apps where they make it seem like it's free but end up forcing you to subscribe. We already subscribe to enough things in our life why should we subscribe to this?

Edit (response to developers): A lot of people usually think an app that's free to download is free, maybe with ads, maybe with optional in app purchases, but even the apps that do try to force subscriptions usually have some way of letting you use it for free. I understand the server costs thing though, but it would be a lot less deceptive if the app itself costed money instead of being free to download in my opinion.

Response from developer

Hi, we do not state that the app is "free to use," and we clearly and explicitly present all free trial and subscription information in compliance with App Store regulations. Our goal is to provide the best restaurant safety information to our users, and the subscription fee helps us offset the server costs of maintaining millions of data points while supporting our team.

Potential but not ready, especially not for the price

There’s very minimal information this app provides, low coverage areas. This early on this app should be free, but it requires a trial. Deleted it within a week.

Response from developer

Thanks for your feedback. If your area is not covered yet, or if you would like support for places you travel to, please submit a request in the app or email support@openkitchen.app. We prioritize locations based on user requests and would also love to hear any feature suggestions! Let's make OpenKitchen better together!

Has Potential, Very Inaccurate Though

This app has a lot of potential - I love the map view with all restaurants showing up. It makes it easy to explore just like exploring the Google Maps map for restaurants. However, ratings are not accurate. Places might have gotten a 96 (A) rating for the past 3 inspections since 2024 and show up as “Okay” or “Avoid” in-app, and then others might’ve only gotten a 75 (C) rating on their most recent health inspection report and then show up as “Safe” in-app. There isn’t a good enough description why these restaurants are rated the way they are. It’s a great concept but definitely needs some work!

Response from developer

Thank you for the feedback. Accuracy is our top priority. We do NOT rely only on the overall inspection score. We also consider the specific violations found during the inspection, including whether they are administrative issues or actual health concerns, such as mice or pest activity. We are improving the app to show clearer explanations behind each rating. If you notice anything that seems incorrect, please report it on the restaurant page. Let's make OpenKitchen better together!

Cool app

I’ve actually been using this app a lot recently whenever I eat out. So easy to look up restaurants. Can’t wait for more features to come out!
