Stattdessen sieht man dann nur AppleMaps. Und dann noch ein Abo? Nein danke. **Developer response:** Berechtigte Kritik. Die Kacheln wurden über einen einzigen Server geladen — war der langsam, sah man nur die Basiskarte. Inzwischen verteilt die App die Anfragen auf mehrere Server und hält einen Cache auf dem Gerät, und ganze Regionen lassen sich für offline vorab herunterladen. Zum Abo: Es ist optional und entfernt nur die Werbung. Alle Karten, Routen und Werkzeuge sind auch ohne Abo vollständig nutzbar. — Andrea, OpenMaps ### 2/5 — Lädt mit 30 Sekunden Verspätung die Karten *2025-09-29* Einige Karten sind überhaupt nicht abrufbar, man sieht nur grüne Flächen, die topographischen Karten laden dermaßen langsam, das liegt nicht an meinem Internet. **Developer response:** Das lag nicht an Ihrem Internet — Sie hatten recht. Die Kartenkacheln liefen über einen einzelnen Server, und wenn der überlastet war, blieben grüne Flächen stehen. Inzwischen verteilt die App die Anfragen auf mehrere Server, hält bereits geladene Bereiche im Cache und lässt ganze Regionen vorab für offline herunterladen. Dazu gibt es jetzt 6 topografische und nautische Kartenstile. — Andrea, OpenMaps ### 2/5 — Ads are way too intrusive *2025-02-18* Ads that randomly take up the full screen with full volume. Couldn’t even really check the app out because the ads were too many. **Developer response:** Fair criticism — full-screen ads firing at random with the sound up were far too aggressive, and that behaviour is gone. The free version now shows nothing at all on the first launches, and there are no video interruptions while you use the map. OpenMaps Pro (€1.99/month or €9.99/year) removes every ad across iPhone, Apple Watch and Mac. Worth a second look: the app itself has been rebuilt, with offline maps, route drawing and 6 topographic and nautical styles. — Andrea, OpenMaps ### 2/5 — Use to be the best! *2023-12-10, version 4.91.100* No maps at all now. I think the last update did it. The menu is almost completely dark. But, if I click around the 7th space down, a map does come up! Any visual cues to switch map views totally absent. Doesn’t say in-app-purchases here but tries to up-well. Der Download ist kostenlos; das Abo entfernt lediglich die Werbung. — Andrea, OpenMaps ### 1/5 — Awful *2017-08-09* I read a review of the Altometer app produced by the same Andrea Piani and found out that you get ads in that application even after paying not to get any ads. Despite better knowledge I bought here «OpenMaps» and indeed even after paying to get rid of ads, one button remained dedicated to show me disgusting ads. DO NOT BUY ANY APP FROM THIS PRODUCER. **Developer response:** Paying to remove ads and still being shown ads was indefensible, and you were right to say so publicly. That's been put right: OpenMaps Pro now removes every ad in the app — banner, interstitial and launch — and one subscription covers iPhone, Apple Watch and Mac. Nothing else is paywalled except a single metered commercial base map; the topographic and nautical styles, offline region downloads and all the tools are free. — Andrea, OpenMaps ### 1/5 — Zu aufdringliche Werbung! *2017-06-21* Kommt wieder runter, Werbung zu nervig. **Developer response:** Berechtigt — die Werbung war damals schlicht zu aufdringlich. Inzwischen erscheint auf den ersten Starts gar keine, beim Kartenlesen gibt es keine Videounterbrechungen mehr, und OpenMaps Pro entfernt sie ganz. Kostenlos bleiben dabei alle 6 topografischen und nautischen Kartenstile, das Vorabladen ganzer Regionen für offline sowie Routenzeichnung, Kompass und Höhenmesser. — Andrea, OpenMaps ### 2/5 — Great app but please put back Open Cycle Maps *2017-04-07* Great app but please put back Open Cycle Maps **Developer response:** You asked for the cycling map back, and it's back — as CyclOSM and CyclOSM Lite, the community styles that succeeded OpenCycleMap. Both are in the base map picker, free. Alongside them there are now OpenTopoMap with contour lines, Humanitarian, and OpenSeaMap nautical overlays, plus offline region downloads and route drawing with live distance and elevation. — Andrea, OpenMaps ### 1/5 — Useless *2017-03-18* It only works in portrait mode and I use my iPad exclusively horizontally. **Developer response:** Fair point, and it's fixed: on iPad the app now runs in landscape as well as portrait, in both directions. I'm reporting it to Apple **Developer response:** You were right to be angry — at that point the tile source had been cut off and the app genuinely showed no map at all. It has since been rebuilt from the ground up, on several independent tile sources with automatic failover, an on-device cache and offline region downloads. Today it also does route drawing, GPX and Garmin FIT import/export, POI search and compass/altimeter tools, with Apple Watch and Mac apps. — Andrea, OpenMaps ### 1/5 — Nur noch Werbung! *2016-08-08* Nicht zu empfehlen diese App, wird nur noch als Werbe-Klicker verwendet. There are now NO maps. Pretty neat for mapping software! **Developer response:** "Pretty neat for mapping software" was deserved — direct tile access had been switched off and the app showed no map at all. It runs on several independent tile sources now, with automatic failover when one goes down: OpenStreetMap, OpenTopoMap with contour lines, CyclOSM, and OpenSeaMap nautical charts. Die Karten sind heute nicht mehr versteckt: 6 topografische und nautische Stile stehen offen im Auswahlmenü, kostenlos, dazu Offline-Download ganzer Regionen. Developer has contacted me to tell me that the full page ads are now gone. That is if I buy the pro version!!! Totally missing the point of my review I will not be using this app agin poor service a map with ads total rubbish ———— Launched the app first time and a full page advert with count down to close. Uninstalled.. **Developer response:** A full-page ad with a countdown as the very first thing you see is a terrible way to greet someone, and uninstalling was the right call. That's gone: there is no ad at all on the first launches now, and none while you're reading the map. OpenMaps Pro removes them entirely. Behind it there's now a real app — 6 topographic and nautical map styles, offline region downloads, route drawing, GPX and Garmin FIT support. — Andrea, OpenMaps ### 1/5 — Schrott! *2026-07-13* Startet gar nicht, habe es eben nach dem letzten Update noch mal versucht. Wieder nichts! Diese Schrott App öffnet nicht einmal eine halbe Sekunde, dann fliegt man wieder raus. **Developer response:** Sie hatten recht, und es tut mir leid. Das war ein echter Fehler: Die App ist beim Start abgestürzt, während sie den Zugriff auf Health angefragt hat. Behoben ist das in Version 10.3, die jetzt im App Store ist — die App startet damit wieder normal. Absolutely hate the app. Wants to track a lot more than map usage. Wants health metrics. What looks like a menu at the bottom is ads and more intrusive software. Touted to be a topical map app for outdoor enthusiasts and professionals. Wanted to send me to Microsoft ads on my iPhone every time I tried to use the app. If there is a way to import a map I did not find it. I found the app to be the most annoying app I have ever tried. **Developer response:** Thank you for the detail — it's more useful than a star rating, and several of your points were fair. On Health: it's used only on the Apple Watch to record a workout, it's entirely optional, and declining it changes nothing on the iPhone. The bottom row you took for a menu was indeed an ad; OpenMaps Pro removes every ad in the app, and the free version no longer shows anything on the first launches. On importing: the app now reads and writes GPX and Garmin FIT files, so you can bring your own routes in and send them back out. — Andrea, OpenMaps ### 1/5 — Bare minimum for a map app *2024-07-08, version 6.16* It is the bare minimum for a map app and not worth the ads. Upon opening the app you are presented with 4 buttons and an ad. The buttons just have icons and no description. The 1st button doesn’t seem to do anything. The 2nd button opens a list of osm maps with no way of adding your own. 3rd brings the view to your location. And the 4th is a download for a completely different app. The ad sits under the buttons and I had a popup ad when I tapped the 1st button (maybe that’s all it did). That’s all this app can do. ### 1/5 — Moche et trop de pub *2024-01-13* Application inutile, bourrée de publicités pour pas grand chose... Passez votre chemin **Developer response:** Critique méritée : il y avait beaucoup trop de publicité pour bien peu de fonctions. L'application a été entièrement reconstruite depuis. Elle propose maintenant 6 styles de cartes topographiques et nautiques, le téléchargement de régions hors ligne, le tracé d'itinéraires avec distance et dénivelé en temps réel, l'import/export GPX et Garmin FIT, et la recherche de points d'intérêt. Die Werbung ist heute deutlich zurückgenommen — auf den ersten Starts erscheint gar keine — und OpenMaps Pro entfernt sie vollständig, auf iPhone, Apple Watch und Mac. Kind of surprised that the rating is being hidden on the search results. **Developer response:** Fair enough — at that point the app was genuinely not working for a lot of people. It has since been rebuilt from scratch. Map tiles now load through several servers with an on-device cache, whole regions can be pre-downloaded for offline use, and there's route drawing, GPX and Garmin FIT import/export, POI search and compass/altimeter/sun tools. I would pay to remove ads but as there is currently and inherently no features it’s just a map. But you can zoom and pan freely I just think it’s great. Relaxes my brain when looking at a digital map. Please let me remove ads or make it that they at least can be minimized. Added functionality in route sharing and overlays perhaps waypoint creation or coordination with. Abolut das beste was es an Kartenmaterial gibt, und dazu noch kostenlos. Mit diesen Karten findet man wirklich alles. Sogar mit Höhenlinien, einfach super. 5 Sterne sind angemessen. Die Routensuche findet meist ganz gute Wege, die kann aber nicht modifizieren um die eigenen Ideen anzupassen. Auch kann man nur ein Ziel eingeben ... mehrere Ziele erfordern also mühsame manuelle Aktionen. Für das Kartenmaterial 5 Sterne ...
