An update but... *2017-12-07, version 2.0* Is it me or it saves less locations than the previous outdated application ? It looks like I got only some dots instead than a lot of dots :(. One other thing is we can’t reach the developers of this app ? ### 3/5 — Own your data *2016-03-08, version 1.1* Sync failures had me lose a month of data and recently seems a little bit abandoned. Got the app after a Jerr Thorpe talk over a year ago and loved playing with my own data in R and Python but lately the app feels pretty abandoned. Maybe time to delete sadly. ### 3/5 — A wonderful app in need of an update *2015-11-08, version 1.1* I've been using openpaths for years as a way to track my movements and the service works very well, has a REST API with OAuth for accessing data etc, but the app is firmly stuck in the iOS5 era. ### 4/5 — Great app but needs an update *2013-10-24, version 1.1* I have been using this app for nearly two years to record my movements. The app runs quietly and economically in the background. The website is very easy to use to download a csv of my movements for use in other programmes and scripts. I have found it a very useful resource. However I find it does crash a lot, almost every time I open it. Usually it is fine on reopening as long as it can sync the data back to the server. In situations where I don't have mobile data or wifi (e.g. abroad) this can be frustrating but it still seemed to record where I was. Balancing preserving battery life against recording the GPS position as accurately as possible is always going to be tricky. I find it works best when I am on my bicycle (25-35km/h) and it records my position at regular and well-spaced intervals. Faster transportation like cars and trains are more hit and miss and the app tends to record highly clustered points at substantial intervals. Walking pace is also slightly erratic. If you want to ensure that a place is recorded then it's best to open up the app so it places a point. ### 3/5 — Crowd mapping, if that's what you're into. *2012-08-02, version 1.1* If you want to track a specific path, you and I will need to look elsewhere. The screen hides typical iPhone info bar at the top (see screenshots). Power consumption when I engaged the app was noticeably faster, to the point that my charger was ineffective: in twenty minutes it had only increased two percent. Accuracy aside (they do not promise it) it seems inconsistent in the way it records: starts off leaving markers in regular intervals, then randomly stops leaving gaps which is why it's not good for paths. ### 2/5 — Disappointing *2012-05-27, version 1.1* This app is a good idea but has many flaws. It almost always crashes on start up, sometimes has large blank patches of missing data, often documents my location as somewhere I haven't been and struggles to load up if you press the 'all' tab. On top of that, very few practices are requesting the information. Perhaps not enough researchers know about it as a resource or perhaps they know about the flaws. ### 3/5 — So close! *2012-04-16, version 1.1* Brilliant and innovative concept carried out with less than desirable seriousness. Crashes so often it's of little use. I'd like to see this improved upon! Could be something great with a lot of work. ### 4/5 — Lovely app, room for improvement *2012-03-26, version 1.0* Seems to be a fairly good little app, has been tracking well so far. Good security measures, not too draining on battery life. Suggestion for future versions might be to allow comments to be made on each individual point when opening the app, to remember significant moments such as what you were doing, who you were with, etc. for personal reasons. ### 2/5 — Australia? *2012-03-26, version 1.0* I'm getting really bad results for past records here? When you're in the subway very often it gets confusing because it also adds places you have only been under the ground.. However, I get lots of inaccurate results so far. It shows me at places I have not been. Still have to try out the API. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Not working :( *2020-09-30, version 2.0* This app doesn’t work, and hasn’t since I last tried for iOS11. It fails to sync my data and it’s display hasn’t been updated for larger phone screens. I miss the app, when it worked. I used this app for years because it did such a good job of unobtrusively giving me a way of seeing where I’d been, but unfortunately it seems the app just doesn’t work any more. ☹️ ### 1/5 — Account set up fails *2019-03-25, version 2.0* It won’t let me past the account set up. ### 1/5 — Unable to use *2015-05-27, version 1.1* I actually can't tell you anything about the app since it would not let me sign-up or sign-in. I decided since that little thing would not work then the app as a whole would probably not be worth the effort and so I deleted it ### 1/5 — Inaccurate tracking app, defeats the whole point. *2013-11-29, version 1.1* So inaccurate it's absolutely useless. Never left my property today, but in the last 18 hours shows points as far as 4 miles away. ### 1/5 — Hang & crashed! *2012-12-29, version 1.1* This app hang up and often crashed at almost every launched. Already tried to re-install but the problem persist. Tracking even worse. Need to learn from sport tracking app, they're mostly far better (some of them even great!) than this supposed to be real tracking app. ### 1/5 — Nice in principle, but doesn't work *2012-11-29, version 1.1* Lots of phantom sightings in places I've not been. Bye ### 2/5 — Great concept, annoying and puzzling results *2012-12-19, version 1.1* I live the idea, but the resulting data is of such poor quality that it's useless. The app places me 1 - 3 miles from my true location in ~80% of points logged. Also, interval between data capture is variable and appears arbitrary. Cool idea but to crude to be of much use. ### 2/5 — Inaccurate to the point of worthlessness *2012-07-17, version 1.1* Although the creator's TED talk is certainly inspiring and this application's UI is well-composed, the utilization of iOS's location APIs is poor at best. Overnight, with four bars and a view of the southern sky, the app will place me anywhere in a three-four mile radius—meaning that since work is three miles away, I have absolutely no valid data. Over 24 hours, I'm placed in 30 locations despite never leaving my apartment. I honestly wanted to use this app, and while it has so much going for it: decent UI, good service integration, amazingly interesting concept— the core function of logging my location simply DOES NOT produce reliable data. Thank you =) ### 5/5 — Works well *2012-06-03, version 1.1* Not sure why I do it, but it works well and shows where I have been in a very general sense(not accurate background recording, but this would be to save battery i guess). My location must move a lot because of my phone switching towers even when i am at home, which I assume is an issue with how the iPhone determines the location.
