## What is OpenTV?

OpenTV is a fast, private tracker for everything you watch.

Check off episodes as you watch them, keep a movie watchlist, rate with stars and emotions, and see your watching life in numbers — total hours, marathons, streaks, badges and more.

YOUR DATA STAYS YOURS
Your library lives in a database on your device. The tracker needs no account, no sign-in and no connection. No ads, ever. Export your complete library anytime — and if you ever leave, take everything with you.

AN OPTIONAL COMMUNITY
Join only if you want to: comments, ratings, shared lists and profiles. Your per-episode watch history never leaves your phone either way.

SWITCHING FROM ANOTHER TRACKER?
OpenTV imports the official TV Time data export (the ZIP from Settings → Privacy → Request my data): your shows, full watch history, movies, watchlists, ratings, emotions, comments, favourites, profile photos and badges — all restored in minutes, on-device.

TRACK
• Episode-by-episode progress with season checklists
• Continue Tracking picks up exactly where you stopped
• Movie watchlist with filters and sorting
• Ratings and emotion reactions for episodes and movies

DISCOVER
• Trending shows and movies, trailers, cast and where-to-watch
• Search your library and the whole catalogue in one place

STATS
• Watch time, episodes per week, biggest marathons
• Genres, networks, badges and yearly charts

### 4/5 — Was unable to import data til the developer reached out with a solution.

*2026-07-25*

*Updated review, the developer reached out to help with the problem, Thank you!*

**Developer response:** Hi Amanda, I'm really sorry the import let you down — that's the one thing OpenTV has to get right, and I want to fix this for you personally.

When everything imports as "0," it's almost always the type of file, not your data. Please make sure you're using the full GDPR data export from TV Time (the ZIP they email when you request "all your data"), not a screenshot or partial export — the app reads the CSV files inside that specific ZIP.

If you're already using that file and it still shows 0, I'd love to look into it with you and get it sorted. You can reach me directly on Discord, Telegram, or Instagram — @mahmoodbashar08 on all three. Send me your export and I'll walk you through it, and if there's a bug with your particular file I'll fix the importer and push an update fast.

You shouldn't have to add anything by hand — let's get your full history back. Thanks for giving OpenTV a try.

### 5/5 — Great TV Time alternative

*2026-07-24*

I’ve tried more than 10 TV-tracking apps, and I was so happy to find OpenTV because it’s very similar to TV Time. I especially love that we can import our TV Time data. The imported information isn’t completely accurate yet, and there are still a few things to improve, but I’m patient and excited to see how the app develops. Thank you for creating it!

### 1/5 — Not able to import data!

*2026-07-22*

Wanted to like the app but can’t even get my tvtime data imported every time I submit my zip it says it is done and nothing imports all items listed as 0. To much to add manually.

### 4/5 — Just like TV Time!!

*2026-07-14*

I love that this looks and feels just like TV Time! I’ve been trying out a bunch of apps and none of them feel the same. All my data imported great, there’s just a few inconsistencies I wish I could edit …the three dots in the upper right hand corner of a show don’t work so I can’t edit lists. Add/remove shows on my favorites list doesn’t work. Some shows are showing up as not completed on my watch next but when you click on them they say completed. Small issues but if these could be fixed and I could start editing my favorites / watch list I’m staying!!

**Developer response:** Thank you so much — this genuinely means a lot! Feeling "just like TV Time" was the whole goal. 💛

You're on version 1.1.0, our very first release, and a lot has been fixed since. The two you mentioned — the ⋯ menu (so you can edit your lists) and adding/removing favourites — are both fixed in the update that's in Apple's review right now, landing any day. The moment you see the new version, update and you'll be able to edit your favourites and lists.

The "not completed in Watch Next but completed when you open it" one is an old counter that can stick after importing — it's already better, and I'm making it correct itself automatically in the very next update.

I'm a solo dev and I fix these fast, so please stick around — and once you've updated, let me know if anything's still off. Thank you for giving OpenTV a real try! 🙏

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.6.1 — 2026-09-02

Some films in your TV Time lists came through with no name — TV Time never
included those titles in your export. OpenTV can put them back now: open your
profile and tap the yellow bar.

Fixed a bug where backups quietly dropped those films, so a restored list came
back shorter than it was.

The popcorn game now plays smoothly while your library is updating, and there's
a snake to go with it. Tap the shuffle to swap.

### 1.6.0 — 2026-08-31

Light theme — light, dark, or follow your device. Free, in Settings.

Memories — "on this day" from your own history, plus a full archive
under the ••• menu.

Plex — connect your server and OpenTV picks up what you watched there.
It only ever reads.

Fixes: the interests poll now saves your answer, the artwork picker
loads much faster, the GIF picker lists every show, and startup repair
no longer runs on every launch.

### 1.5.0 — 2026-08-30

Shared lists — build a list with a friend, add to it together, tick things off.

OpenTV Plus — pictures and GIFs on your comments, a profile you arrange yourself, Deep Stats, themes and Wrapped.

Live translation of any comment into your language.

On this day — what you were watching a year ago, and five.

Import from Letterboxd.

Better search, and a long list of fixes.

### 1.4.2 — 2026-08-18

Searching a title together with its year now works — "Partner 2007" finds the film instead of returning nothing.

Profiles with a colour theme look considerably cleaner: the gradient behind the banner no longer goes muddy or shows bands, and the row under the banner sits flush against it.

### 1.4.0 — 2026-08-14

Wrapped
A recap of any month or any year — hours watched, the shows that took most of it, the day that stands out — as cards built for the places they end up. Every card shares on its own, so the one worth posting isn't buried behind the rest. A quiet month says so kindly instead of printing a wall of zeroes.

The cast is tappable
Tap anyone in a show's cast for their photograph, where they're from, a biography in your own language when there is one, and every series and film they're credited in — newest first, each one opening in the app.

Private accounts
Turn your profile private and new followers have to ask. Eight switches decide what a visitor sees — stats, activity, lists, favourites, shows, films, comments. The server withholds what you hide rather than trusting the app to hide it.

Filters that stay put
They used to reset every time you left the screen, so anyone who filters the same way daily re-did it daily. They persist now, and the pill says how many are on.

Your old TV Time friends
A screen of their own. Your friends list is checked against every new account, so they appear on their own as they arrive — there's nothing to come back and check.

Fixed
The posters and + buttons in "People also watched" did nothing at all — both work now. Photos in other people's comments appear. A show with many seasons no longer draws them on top of each other. Sign-up is easier to find on a phone that has never had an account.
