## What is Orðagull?

Smáforritið Orðagull miðar að því að styrkja orðaforða, vinnsluminni, heyrnræna úrvinnslu og máltjáningu nemenda. Allt eru þetta mikilvægir undirstöðuþættir máls og læsis. Gengið er út frá því að smáforritið henti elstu börnum í leikskóla og börnum á yngsta stigi grunnskóla. Einnig getur það nýst eldri nemendum, sem og nemendum sem eru að læra íslensku sem annað tungumál.
 
Höfundar eru Bjartey Sigurðardóttir, talmeinafræðingur og læsisráðgjafi hjá Menntamálastofnun, og Ásthildur Bj. Snorradóttir, talmeinafræðingur hjá Skrifstofu fræðslu og frístundasviðs Hafnarfjarðar. Teikningar eru unnar af Búa Kristjánssyni og Margrét Júlíana Sigurðardóttir sá um upplestur. Tölvuleikjafyrirtækið Rosamosi vann alla hugbúnaðarvinnu. Smáforritið er enn sem komið er eingöngu til á íslensku.
Leitast er við að virkja áhuga nemenda með því að gera námsefnið skemmtilegt og áhugavert. Þannig eru nýtt þau tækifæri sem felast í smáforritum til að viðhalda áhuga nemenda og styrkja þá grunnþætti náms sem nefndir voru hér að framan. Þrátt fyrir að forritið sé í grunninn hugsað sem málörvunarefni er einnig mögulegt að nota það til lestrarþjálfunar og sem skemmtilega afþreyingu.
Í gegnum skráningarkerfi forritsins er foreldrum og kennurum gert kleift að meta árangur og fylgjast með framförum. Einnig er mögulegt að nemendur geti sjálfir fylgst með eigin framförum. Í byrjun verður hægt að nálgast forritið án endurgjalds hjá App Store.
