### 4/5 — Pricey, but good

*2026-07-23, version 26.13.0*

The live classes are pricey, but good. On iPhone though, the proprietary learning platform could use some work. Playing in a corner window would be nice, mainly though if I switched out to another app, I had to reload when I came back. Also, the audio stops when you switch to another app.

### 4/5 — Cannot view video in full screen

*2026-07-18, version 26.13.0*

Everything else is good but can’t view videos on iPhone in full screen sucks

### 4/5 — Broken media downloads multiple bugs

*2026-04-07, version 26.6.0*

The reading experience is ok, however the media downloads work very poorly. Often the download will stall for no apparent reason and not budge. I have faced this problem over the course of different version and mobiles OSs. The app logs out users at seemingly random times, nothing like trying to read on a plane with no connectivity only to find out that your login times out. At least warn me and force me to re-login.

### 2/5 — Extreme basic for premium price

*2026-03-24, version 26.5.0*

Missing features from other readers. There are no support for proper and efficient notes. It must support the Apple Pencil.
It should allow download if they don't want to implement a good reader

### 5/5 — Good mobile reading experience

*2026-02-22, version 26.3.0*

I like the reading experience

### 2/5 — Needs internet connection

*2026-02-03, version 26.1.1*

Downloaded content will not open without internet connection.

### 5/5 — Save Thousands and Deliver on Time

*2026-01-30, version 26.1.1*

I have spent several thousand dollars trying to keep up with the tech industry and finally there’s a way to get access to what I need when I need it with out an enterprise budget library! The information and range of publishers is incredible. The app is getting better! Trivial gripes about minor issues and a hope to see the verifiable platform in app form, but otherwise nothing but gold!

### 3/5 — Please leave the app logged in

*2026-01-18, version 26.0.0*

It keeps signing out once in a while. Would appreciate if the app stays logged in like many other apps.

### 5/5 — Good

*2026-01-15, version 26.0.0*

Good for tech learners

### 3/5 — Voice issu

*2025-12-12, version 10.33.0*

I wish I could use my iPhone voice in here

### 3/5 — Sometimes Bad Offline Experiences

*2025-12-12, version 10.33.0*

Before you fly make sure to login and confirm the titles you want to read are dowloaded. Otherwise you might be at 40000 feet with nothing to read. If you get WiFi onboard you can usually correct. If everything aligns it works fine but better online.

### 3/5 — Good content. Bad app.

*2025-12-02, version 10.33.0*

When doing research, I use many textbooks, often skimming an entire book in a few hours. Over the course of a year, I will use about 5 books in depth and another 20 for reference. The nice thing about a subscription is that you can really check if a textbook is usual or not without having to guess and making a purchase. However, I am disappointed with the account management. Intentionally making subscription management difficult is a malicious way of cheating people out of their money. It may be legal but in practical terms, it's called a scam. I like content, but wouldn't recommend this app.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Unusable offline. Cancelling my subscription.

*2026-04-20, version 26.6.0*

This was my favorite app for 5+ years. I travel regularly and used it to study during long flights with unreliable internet. Recently they changed something so your login times out faster. So even if you download content, it quits working an hour into my flight. It quit working during 8 of my trips this month. I’m going to have to switch back to paper books.

### 1/5 — Good books, poor software

*2026-03-03, version 26.3.0*

As a long time subscriber, I have noticed a decline in quality of this App. Browsing and finding books is a frustrating experience as the app seems to hide content and make book discovery painful outside of the algorithmic feed of books that are pushed on you.

Now they have added a top row of "Shorts" to the explore page cluttering the already sparse book view to shove garbage in my face. I have zero interest in short form content in a book app of all places. This garbage has to go or at least have a setting to turn it off. I expect more from O'Reily than to cater to short attention span, lowest common denominator users. I am paying for access to long form content, not brain rot garbage!

### 1/5 — Voice Selection Not Working

*2026-02-28, version 26.3.0*

The ability to select voice does not work. The voice defaults to “Karen” inspite of multiple choices available in Apple

### 1/5 — Not well cooked

*2026-02-18, version 26.2.1*

Each time it opens the book at the same place at the beginning of the chapter. Therefore each time I should scroll down and visually look for not read place. Very annoying, spent a lot of time for it.

### 1/5 — Unable to login through university SSO on the app

*2026-02-18, version 26.2.1*

How did you guys make a nap and forget about your most important demographic university students whose universities already paid for O’Reilly.

### 1/5 — Difficult to use

*2026-01-21, version 26.1.0*

It is very difficult to use. You can’t bookmark a page. You can’t jump to a page number.

### 1/5 — Highlight Feature - Absolutely Worst

*2025-12-22, version 10.33.0*

Highlighting is probably the most frequently used activity when reading. I really don't understand why this is STILL a multi step process (in 2025!).

Highlighting text should be natural; a drag-once operation.

Take a lessons from iOS Books app. The experience there is EXACTLY like using a physical highlighter, (drag across text, done!) easy and distracting. They even have five colors and an underline mode that remembers your selection.

And, if it’s so important to you to give a user multiple menu choices after dragging across text, why not have a **highlighting mode** which I assume most people would be in?

### 1/5 — Mostly Useless App

*2025-11-13, version 10.33.0*

For $500+ per year, I thought it would at least have a decent app. Apparently I was wrong.

There is no easy way to just browse for topics, and every time I use the filters in search, the moment I try to scroll through the results, they are cleared out as if I never searched in the first place.

All of their suggestions are just trying to shovel more AI slop my way.

### 1/5 — Really buggy video player

*2025-11-09, version 10.33.0*

How is the video player so broken? This app is mostly video player, and it keeps breaking in every possible way all the time.

DO BETTER

### 1/5 — Frustrating UI

*2025-11-04, version 10.33.0*

I don’t want to enter password all the time. Text resize is obscure.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — My review

*2026-08-25, version 26.15.0*

I love the app, so good and complete.

### 5/5 — Great app. More playback speed will perfect it

*2026-07-23, version 26.13.0*

Playback speed available are in 0.25 increment. It would be good to get more speed like 0.10 or even 0.05

### 5/5 — GoTo Resource

*2026-06-23, version 26.11.0*

My GoTo Resource

### 5/5 — Knowledge building app

*2026-05-13, version 26.8.0*

Great app to access the knowledge media across multiple devices. Downloaded audiobooks lose pockets of data sometimes. Hope the developers fix this

### 5/5 — Worth it

*2026-05-09, version 26.8.0*

Expensive but worth it. Valuable AI / IT content you cannot find elsewhere.

### 5/5 — Just Like a Gym Membership

*2026-04-27, version 26.7.0*

Even an elite gym membership can feel like a steal when you actually use it—because the return goes far beyond the price. You’re not just paying for equipment; you’re investing in long-term health, energy, mindset, and the kind of environment that elevates how you show up in life.

That same principle applies to O’Reilly (both the app and browser experience). On the surface, it’s a subscription. In reality, it’s a compounding engine for your career and your thinking.

But just like the gym, it only works if you show up and put in real effort.

If you engage with it intentionally—reading, watching, practicing, revisiting concepts—it becomes incredibly powerful. You’re not just consuming content; you’re building capability. Over time, that capability turns into confidence, better decisions, stronger technical instincts, and yes… higher earning potential.

“The more you learn, the more you earn” is true—but it undersells what’s actually happening here.

You start to:
- Solve problems faster and with more creativity
- See patterns others miss
- Contribute meaningfully to teams, projects, and beyond
- Build things that actually matter

And that ripple effect extends outward. When you level up your skills, you become more useful—to your team, your company, and anyone your work impacts.

So the real value of the O’Reilly subscription isn’t just in the content library—it’s in what you become if you consistently apply it.

Use it lightly, and it’s just another subscription.
Lean into it, and it becomes a career accelerant.

Simple as that.

If the topic is covered here, I’d choose this content over “free” options every time.

And if you can get your company to pay for it—go ahead and pin another gold star on your jacket.

### 5/5 — Best of the best

*2026-04-15, version 26.6.0*

Best resource for learning and there are no limits to learning materials.

### 5/5 — A great tech and business focused learning platform

*2026-03-19, version 26.4.0*

This is a great platform to learn coding, data, and business through different media. I especially like the guided audiobooks, courses, and Answers AI feature.

### 5/5 — Decent

*2026-02-25, version 26.3.0*

Pricing is pretty high but there are some good authors here

### 5/5 — Login via library card

*2026-02-24, version 26.3.0*

Please support login using library card via the app. Browser experience is not that great
