### 2/5 — Not intuitive at all!

*2026-09-02, version 5.6.2*

I have been a member for six years and there is amazing mapping data available on the OS website and on this app. I love the 3D fly through. However OS does not make it easy to use. For example, where is the map legend? This is such a basic piece of information that should be readily to hand when using a map. I recently found myself on private land because I did not have a key to the map symbols. The landing page on both the website and the mobile app are not very helpful, at least to me. I don’t really know what they are capable of and it would be helpful to have much better sign posting on the landing page. On the mobile app the thing I usually want to do is to record an activity, but this doesn’t seem to automatically appear as an option. There are instructions on how to do things such as upload a GPX file, but nothing which tells me why I might want to do that. OS Maps needs to be more helpful to someone who is not familiar with digital mapping in order for me to really get good value from it. It could be SO much better than it is. I’m thinking of reverting to paper maps and using another way of recording my walks. The downside, of course, would be that I wouldn’t know whether the Maps I am using are up-to-date.

### 3/5 — Useful app - just be careful, can be very unsafe

*2026-08-24, version 5.6.2*

Recently I have found that the routes given by the app are steering me to walk down fairly busy roads with no pavements
It is a great app but I would recommend throughly going through suggested routes on google maps first to check it is actually safe first

### 4/5 — Latest release

*2026-08-16, version 5.6.1*

Great app…but search option is just not working properly. Offers street names when searching for towns/villages!!

### 4/5 — Useful App

*2026-08-15, version 5.6.1*

On the whole, it’s a useful app. I like that you can download routes to use offline, that you can record your hikes. But it would be better if it automatically showed where you actually are when you open the app, rather than having to scroll across the whole English map to find your position.

### 1/5 — Shocking

*2026-08-09, version 5.6.1*

Constantly crashes on my iPad

### 1/5 — Not intuitive

*2026-08-03, version 5.6.1*

Am looking for an OS route planning app. Task: map me a route to go from A to B using footpaths as much as possible in the uk.
Dunno if this does that but it is not intuitive nor easy to use.
In today’s world i expect better.

### 4/5 — Good but scope for improvement

*2026-08-02, version 5.6.1*

Very good as far as it goes. The Apple Watch display is rudimentary and needs redesign. Also, the addition of a waypoint proximity alarm would be very useful.

### 1/5 — Now with missing features ☹️

*2026-07-28, version 5.6.1*

Used this app for a number of years as my default hiking app. Lately though, as well as the user interface becoming confusing/useless, with actual useful tools hidden away, 2 missing features really bug me…What happened to the inbuilt ‘hill peak finder’ this should be returned ASAP. Also when creating/exporting a gpx why does it strip out the ‘elevation data’. I have to import to another website to add it back in…WTF?? there’s no real difference in file size!!!
I’ve decided enough’s enough, once my subscription ends this year I will be looking for a better option. Shame as it could be great!!

### 1/5 — Dishonest

*2026-07-26, version 5.6.1*

Claims to allow route planning in the free mode but actually it just draws a straight line to your destination and expects you to do the rest. And it should say in app purchases. So upgraded to premium on free trial , selected off road biking put in a popular local mtb route and it just sent me along roads. Then promptly cancelled free trial and it charged me anyway.

### 2/5 — Good app.

*2026-07-26, version 5.6.1*

Unfortunately sends marketing notifications when notifications are turned off.

### 4/5 — Personalised Routes

*2026-07-19, version 5.6.1*

It would be useful to be able to adjust route maps on a desktop or laptop computer

### 2/5 — Where is the AR?

*2026-07-18, version 5.6.1*

This app used to have a very useful augmented reality feature which would identify anything on the horizon if you pointed your device at it. Why has this been removed on the fully paid version?

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Special offer not working

*2026-08-31, version 5.6.2*

I wanted to re subscribe when I got a special offer at £25. However when I click the offer in Apple Store it takes me into app where I only have option for £35… not impressed

### 1/5 — Glitchy

*2026-08-30, version 5.6.2*

Me and partner are finding the app to be very buggy, dont think it deserves its current star rating and thinking of unsubscribing

### 1/5 — Rip off

*2026-08-29, version 5.6.2*

Took my money for a premium subscription , have an email receipt. Open the app, first thing they want is more money for premium? I’ll be contacting apple for a refund!

### 1/5 — Contact me

*2026-08-28, version 5.6.2*

Even the ‘report an app issue’ link takes you to a 404 error!

Trying to subscribe but the handoff between auth in my banking app and going back to the OS app to progress is broken. The screen disappears so the purchase can never be confirmed! Common error with iOs I think. So, how do I subscribe using annual discounted fee?

### 1/5 — No longer works on iPad

*2026-08-28, version 5.6.2*

For some reason i can no longer open the app on my iPad - it just refuses to open at all!

### 1/5 — Can’t upgrade. No support available

*2026-08-16, version 5.6.1*

Can’t upgrade to premium as keep getting an error message to say “subscription linked to another account” even though I don’t have another account. Tried to contact support and it takes you to a broken webpage with a 404 error message

### 1/5 — Is this just a scam?

*2026-08-16, version 5.6.1*

Bizarre — it doesn’t seem to do anything at all. Can’t find trails whose names are right on the map on the screen. The support button goes to a dead page. All the reviews are from years ago. They say they do the US but it doesn’t seem so. The App Store page says it’s $5/mo and $25/year but it’s $50/year.

### 1/5 — Payment Requirement

*2026-08-14, version 5.6.1*

You have to pay a subscription to use the offline maps. I’ve deleted the app as I’m not paying £35.99 per year.

### 1/5 — Keeps PAUSING

*2026-08-13, version 5.6.1*

This app keeps PAUSING so all your data gets skewed. You have to keep RESUMING. Surely, it’s an easy fix? But OS won’t sort it.

### 1/5 — Really useless for planning a route

*2026-08-12, version 5.6.1*

I can't understand why this app gets so much support. I'm a bright guy and you would think that a map navigation tool would require a FROM and a TO. Not this app!

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great for adventures!

*2026-08-30, version 5.6.2*

I like to see all the features nearby which provide interesting distractions on my trips.

### 5/5 — Northumberland Coast

*2026-08-26, version 5.6.2*

As a OS user for some 16 years it is an excellent tool. I produced a 5 mile walk for friends in half an hour. Excellent .

### 5/5 — It’s brilliant

*2026-08-26, version 5.6.2*

I think it’s like magic. You’ll never feel lost again.

### 5/5 — Very useful

*2026-08-18, version 5.6.1*

I’m a scout leader and find this app brilliant for checking route distance and suitability for hikes. I also use it with my family for holidays and with friends for weekend hikes etc. I pay for the premium subscription which allows me to download routes if I want to give others a paper copy to follow.

### 5/5 — Great app.

*2026-08-08, version 5.6.1*

Top draw, great features, use it all the time cycling, walking, in cities.

### 5/5 — Worth every penny

*2026-07-25, version 5.6.1*

Been a subscriber for years now and honestly it’s fantastic! Great for planning routes and just seeing what the surrounding areas have to offer. Highly recommended

### 5/5 — Mappa Mundi.

*2026-07-21, version 5.6.1*

I like to read books . I like to read my country. Ever since I was a boy , I have found a deep satisfaction in just looking and imagining the poetry on the parchment.

### 5/5 — Opens up UK hikes

*2026-07-20, version 5.6.1*

Amazing ways to explore walks that work for everyone

### 5/5 — Dimi
