## What is OSPOS?

Turn the iPhone and iPad you already own into a full cash register. Cash sales are free forever. For cards, connect your own Stripe account and OSPOS adds 1% on top of Stripe's rate — no monthly fee, no contract, no card reader to buy.

NEW — YOUR IPAD IS NOW THE REGISTER
OSPOS runs on iPad, laid out for a counter: your categories down one side, the menu grid in the middle, the running order on the right. Everything is where your thumb already is.

NEW — TWO DEVICES, ONE REGISTER
Pair an iPad and an iPhone and OSPOS splits the register in two. Ring the order on the iPad; the iPhone faces the customer, mirrors the cart line by line as you build it, and takes the tap. No extra hardware, no extra fee.

- The customer watches their order total as it's rung, then taps their own card
- Pair once with a four-digit code; the two devices reconnect on their own
- Either device can be the register — swap roles whenever it suits the counter
- Every message between the two is signed, so nothing nearby can read your cart

TAKE CARDS WITH NO CARD READER
Tap to Pay on iPhone accepts contactless cards, Apple Pay, and other digital wallets directly on your iPhone. Nothing to plug in, nothing to charge, nothing to lose behind the counter.

BUILT FOR REAL COUNTERS
- Modifier groups — size, milk, extras, with required and optional choices
- Mark an item sold out for the day without deleting it
- Discounts and comps on the whole order, with the tax handled correctly
- Per-item tax, so packaged retail and prepared food can live on one menu
- Edit a line after it's rung, straight from the cart

WORKS WHEN THE INTERNET DOESN'T
Cash sales need no connection at all. Card payments queue and settle themselves when you're back online. The register does not stop because the Wi-Fi did.

KNOW YOUR DAY
Today's takings, transaction count, average sale, and the cash/card split. On iPad you also get an hourly chart of when the money actually came in, and the day's transactions beside it. Export any date range to CSV.

RECEIPTS
Email receipts, or none at all. No customer is ever forced to hand over an address to buy a coffee.

PRICING
Cash mode is free forever and needs no account, no card, and no trial.

For card payments you connect your own Stripe account and keep it. You pay Stripe their normal in-person rate, and OSPOS adds 1% on top. That 1% is the whole of what OSPOS costs.

No monthly fee. No minimum. No contract. No hardware to buy or rent. If you stop using OSPOS you keep your Stripe account and your customer history.

OPEN SOURCE
OSPOS is open source under the MIT licence. You can read exactly what the app does with your money and your customers' data, because the code is public.

Requires iOS 16.0 or later. Tap to Pay on iPhone requires iPhone XS or later.
Card payments are currently available to merchants in the United States.

### 5/5 — Built up my brand!

*2026-08-06*

This app helped me to legitimize my mobile detailing business. Venmo worked well but now I want to expand the business and I need a legitimate paper trail so I can apply for a business loan.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.3.1 — 2026-08-20

Fixes an issue where menu items could not be saved on iPhone.

### 1.3 — 2026-08-11

Your iPad is now a register — and it can borrow your iPhone.

NOW ON IPAD
OSPOS runs on iPad for the first time, redesigned for a counter rather than stretched from a phone. Categories down one side, menu in the middle, the order on the right. Menu, Settings and Sales are laid out in two columns, and sheets open as cards over the screen instead of covering it.

TWO DEVICES, ONE REGISTER
Pair an iPad and an iPhone and the register splits in two. Ring the order on the iPad; the iPhone faces the customer, mirrors the cart line by line as you build it, and takes the tap. No extra hardware, no extra fee.

- The customer watches their total as it's rung, then taps their own card
- Pair once with a four-digit code; the devices reconnect on their own after that, even if one sleeps or wanders out of range
- Either device can be the register — swap roles whenever it suits the counter
- Every message between the two is signed, so nothing nearby can read your cart or trigger a charge

SEE YOUR DAY ON IPAD
An hourly chart of when the money came in, with the busiest hour called out and the day's transactions listed beside it.

FIXED — "TODAY" NOW MEANS YOUR TODAY
The Sales tab was calculating the day in UTC. West of the UK that rolled over mid-afternoon, so an evening's takings could disappear from Today while the shop was still open. Sales, CSV export and backups now all use your own day.

FIXED — CARD PAYMENTS TAKEN OFFLINE
Payments taken without a connection weren't always making it to your account once you were back online. They queue properly now, flush the moment the app comes back to the foreground, and keep syncing on the cash tier too.

ALSO
- Tap to Pay on iPhone shows the contactless symbol before you charge
- Clearer setup when Tap to Pay hasn't been enabled on a device yet
- Settings shows the real version number

### 1.1.2 — 2026-07-06

Reliability and privacy improvements:

• Order backup now protects your most recent transactions. If the app ever needs to recover, no orders are lost.

• Fixed a rare case where custom modifiers with different prices could merge into the wrong cart line.

• Crash reports now automatically redact sensitive information before being sent to us.

• On devices without a passcode, refunds and account deletion now require an extra confirmation step.

### 1.1.1 — 2026-07-01

v1.1.1 is a polish patch focused on the Stripe Connect signup flow:

• "Skip for now" button on Stripe setup — start in cash mode and connect Stripe later from Settings whenever you're ready.
• "No website? Use Instagram" hint — Stripe accepts Instagram, Facebook, Yelp, or any social profile URL as your business website.
• Friendlier session-expired message — if you see a "Something went wrong" after a long break, sign out + back in from Settings to refresh.
• Crash reporting wired up — we can finally see and fix bugs that real merchants hit. Anonymous, no PII.

### 1.1 — 2026-06-16

v1.1 makes OSPOS work for coffee shops, food trucks, taco stands, and any counter-service business with customizable items.

NEW

• Modifier groups — build "Choose your milk" as required single-select, "Add toppings" as multi-select with a max, with defaults that pre-fill the customize sheet
• Customize from cart — tap any cart line's Customize button to reopen the sheet and edit modifiers without re-ringing
• Sold-out toggle — mark items or modifiers 86'd today without deleting them; toggle back when you restock
• Order-level discounts — % off or $ off with an optional reason
• Per-item taxable flag — mix prepared food and packaged retail in the same menu with the right tax behavior on each
• QSR mode (opt-in in Settings) — adds a category filter above your menu for businesses with many items
• Sticker library expanded from 46 to 193 — Microsoft Fluent Emoji Flat across food, drinks, retail, and service
• Menu rows now show item stickers as thumbnails
• Receipts now indent modifier lines under their item and show discount lines above tax
• Adaptive cart panel grows as you ring items in
• 18% tip preset added to the card payment screen
• Several small bug fixes around modifier search and double-tap ringing

Thanks for using OSPOS. Send feedback to phil@tttships.co.
