The OTO was able to set up a program to water my front using four different zones. The app is easy to use, I think my only thought is that the weather report it uses is wrong half the time and I have to override a skip or cancel a water when it’s actively raining. ### 3/5 — Latest update is confusing (July 2026) *2026-07-24, version 4.0.4* We have 3 oTo devices. Bought the first about two years ago. I’m in Silicon Valley and we are techie and love our gadgets. I appreciated and enjoyed using the app to water my plants while I was overseas! I also set my oTo devices to water at set schedules. So easy! HOWEVER, the latest update is so difficult to understand. I can’t find anything and don’t understand where I am in the app. Am I in a schedule that applies to one zone? Or am I in a schedule that shows all zones? I don’t know what I’m doing anymore. So I guess my garden will be randomly watered at random intervals using a random amount of water each time. It used to be so easy to use. ### 5/5 — so convenient! *2026-07-20, version 4.0.2* Never having to mess with setting up the lawn to water by moving a sprinkler 500 times has been amazing. Saves me so much time and mental energy! ### 4/5 — Good but not great. *2026-07-20, version 4.0.3* The Oto app is arguably better than many 'smart' irrigation competitors. (An industry locked in the past). Creating zones and schedules is simple - The intelligence seems largely focused in the automated watering system itself, which calculates how and where to send the stream. The watering planning in the app could be much improved by adding more information to inform the user what may be recommended. Imagine if you could set plant types for the zones, where the app would calculate recommended watering rates based on your regional zone and weather. (Rather than the simplistic water/don't water based on rain or wind) That said, the app is smooth and functional. The ability to set up zones is really nifty and EASILY justifies the cost of this unit versus antiquated competitors. Seriously, this single unit covers 10 different watering zones each of which would require 2-10 sprinkler heads and far too much digging. However, the main lack with this app is information relevant to the system: How much water has been used, what is the inlet pressure (esp how that may fluctuate during runs), gpm, runtime, etc. For a self-contained smart system costing nearly $500, it's missing a number of capabilities that seem worth that price point. Do I need 0.000 accuracy? Naw, but give me a rough total gallons report and usage history so I can monitor the system over seasons/years at least. Overall, would buy again. This is a very practical, reliable, and simplly a very cool gadget. So, it's more than just a gadget for us. It priceless to get rid for peee small in a garden area with chairs and a lounger and the dognpee all over. Works great. Cons: The apps sometimes takes a few minutes to talk to the unit working. But it always works. I think a software updated is needed. Now you can’t even water manually because their backend systems are faulty. ### 1/5 — Bad *2026-07-06, version 4.0.1* But in the app where you tell it to skip waterings and it does them anyways. What a shame ### 1/5 — Bait and Switch *2026-07-02, version 4.0.0* Do not buy one of their sprinklers. They marketed this as a smart sprinkler capable of distributing lawn treatments, but within a year of purchase they discontinued that in the app, so you can now no longer apply solutions to your lawn, despite if you bought it before they discontinued it. If I were you, I would never trust anything this company makes again. ### 1/5 — 4.0 app renders devices unusable *2026-06-22, version 4.0.0* The 4.0 upgrade to the app renders all of my devices unusable. After reinstalling multiple times and waiting. It will finally show schedules and devices. And the worst part is you can’t submit an issue to OTO unless everything is working fine and you can connect to the device. Please revert to the working app until 4.0 works. ### 1/5 — Total Garbage *2026-06-07, version 3.6.12* These things are expensive. They no longer support fertilizer. Customer service is a joke. My devices were replaced during the warranty and then stopped working within a year of being replaced. They lied about many aspects of it’s abilities. It reaches no where close to the range they claim. OtO and Rain Bird are COMPLETELY GARBAGE. ### 1/5 — Class action *2026-05-31, version 3.6.12* They remove features after you purchase it. I have bottles of solution that they used to sell. Not a big deal they found that part of the business was distracting and not as profitable. The issue was it was an advertised feature when I bought the unit and it no longer works for me. I have product I want to use and the bottles can be refilled so they took away something I paid for without compensation. Currently looking for an attorney to see if it qualifies for a class action for owners who purchases before Hanuary 2025 ### 1/5 — Do not buy an Oto *2026-05-05, version 3.6.12* I’ve had issues with two units within one season of owning them. I do not recommend Oto at all. One was leaky and the other the battery dies after 6 months of use and is non replaceable. ### 1/5 — Magical *2025-10-20, version 3.5.3* As a home automation septic, I was hesitant to put this in the yard. Don’t waste your money ! *2025-10-06, version 3.5.3* Company removed ability to manage fertilizer bottle, one key feature of this product. Without this ability it is just a very expensive automated sprinkler. Not worth the money. Stay away from. Company does not value their customers. ### 1/5 — Complete Garbage *2025-08-04* I have 5 of these. I regret the purchase. No one should buy these. This app, or the device themselves, or both, are full of bugs. It has software problems and connectivity problems. The devices do not function correctly when connected to WiFi that has appropriate connection as measured by dBm on my router. Bugs everywhere in the app. This company’s incompetence cost me multiple hundreds of dollars in grass seed since the majority of my seed died due to these devices not watering, unreliability, etc. Their customer service takes days and weeks to respond to issues. Buy these if you want a beta product. Update- CS is pretty good now but the connectivity problems have persisted over 2 different high end systems and it’s because the software/chips in these units are complete garbage. “Couldn’t complete due to a wifi issue” - zero context and zero details. Years later.
