## Newest reviews (12 of 55)

### 2/5 — Lack of news

*2026-08-17*

Not enough substance of news. Paper is really thin of news

### 3/5 — Not Useable on a Phone

*2026-08-11*

Regardless of whether it’s a good app or not, it’s basically unreadable on a phone.

### 3/5 — Features for digital subscribers

*2026-07-15*

For those of us who subscribe digitally, it would be nice if such things as puzzles where easily printable. Also make TV Scene a separate download so it could be easily accessible throughout the week

### 3/5 — News

*2026-07-09*

News is always about two days old, no sports at all on Mondays, no sports scoreboards ever.

### 2/5 — Subscription canceled

*2022-10-25*

Cancel my subscription

### 2/5 — Mediocre Quality

*2022-10-24*

Going downhill relying on National Post articles, often a day old, and most annoyingly day old filler material from USA sources. If not for it being only print source for local news would not bother to buy. It is being used as a cash cow for money losing National Post.
Can’t believe that Monday’s paper is cancelled.
Can’t believe that you don’t report on the previous night’s Sens game even when it ends at 9:30 pm.
Poor value and dropping

### 2/5 — Crashes a lot

*2022-06-09*

The app can crash >5 times reading one day’s paper

### 3/5 — Ottawa Citizen ePaper

*2022-03-06*

It’s been 5 days and no paper, heard nothing from the Ottawa Citizen

### 3/5 — Puzzles

*2021-10-16*

I enjoy doing the daily KenKen, Sudoku and Jumble Words on my Ottawa Citizen paper copy. It would be great if those puzzles and others could be done online. Puzzles such as the daily Crossword and Sudoku, at 3 different levels, can be done online in other newspapers, for example La Presse.

### 2/5 — Rational for low rating

*2020-04-09, version 4.10.2*

Unfortunately, the Citizen and parent, National Post, are so biased toward the Conservative Party and anti the Liberal Government that it is offensive. This said by an apolitical person who has voted for every party but the communists. The fact that the Post controls most of the media of the country makes this a terrible situation. We only stay with your paper because of the local, international, and sports news.

I hold no hope of you changing your negative position re our government. I remember only too well your editorial manager resigning his role because he dared to write a pro Trudeau editorial prior to the last election.,

### 5/5 — I have a subscription but it wants me to buy a paper

*2019-11-09, version 4.10.2*

It works sometimes but more often than not it does not. Very frustrating.

### 5/5 — Timely and topical

*2019-11-07, version 4.10.2*

The “e” version of the Ottawa Citizen provides great news coverage and is delivered faithfully everyday without even having to open the front door! Great product and service.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — App crashes

*2022-06-18*

This app consistently crashes 3 to 5 times when reading the paper. Tech Support typically blames it on the iOS. But when the iOS is updated Tech Support has no answers why it continues to crash. Very frustrating

### 1/5 — Poor Service

*2022-04-19*

There have been a number of times in this past months that the ePaper was not available or would not download. There was a stretch of 5 days in a row. Not dependable and disappointing service?

### 1/5 — Review

*2021-10-06*

After all these past 50 years I’ve decided that the Ottawa Citizen is fully unable to just report the news. The added spin is unwelcome, unnecessary and unprofessional.
A third rate tomb at best; sadly no longer required in physical newsprint format as my budgie bird died.

### 1/5 — The “Tory Citizen”

*2021-10-06*

I have been an Ottawa Citizen reader for many years, but am becoming more and more disenchanted with it, as it has increasingly become a solely Conservative party venue. Both views should be given if It purports to represent the people of Ottawa. If not, as another reader already said, it should change its name to the “Tory Citizen”.

### 1/5 — Good Paper - Bad App

*2020-11-24*

I have read this paper for years, most on the ePaper. I had to get a subscription through the National Post ePaper as the Citizen did not work. This was fine for a few years. About a month ago the National Post ePaper access stopped working. I managed to get a subscription to the Citizen ePaper to work from Oct 9 to today. Now the Citizen says my subscription has expired and it will not even let me pay for an issue, but Apple says my subscription is good until Dec 9. Interestingly, I just downloaded and installed the latest Apple update and now Citizen ePaper does not work. COME ON TECH GUYSat Citizen do your job.

### 1/5 — Terrible App

*2020-04-18, version 4.10.2*

Unable to read the dam paper that I am paying for. I am constantly getting an error message stating “Service Error” “There seems to be a problem connecting online services”. Why pay for something you actually don’t receive. Recommend avoiding the electronic version of the paper if you actually want to read it.

### 1/5 — On line Citizen is terrible

*2019-12-11, version 4.10.2*

You’d think they would want to make it easy to read. Anything but. Terrible on line accessibility.

### 1/5 — iPad edition

*2019-11-22, version 4.10.2*

Why do I have access to a free e-citizen paper but not on my iPad?

### 1/5 — Crossword numbers don't print

*2014-10-15, version 3.3.4*

Since the IOS8 update the numbers for the crossword clues are no longer visible when sent to a printer. This update to the Ottawa Citizen app doesn't correct the problem. PressReader's app has the same issue.

### 1/5 — $1.99 an issue is ridiculous

*2014-08-18, version 3.3.3*

How is it that the Toronto star is $.99 but the Ottawa citizen epaper is $1.99?????? And you wonder why you loosing readership!

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Informative

*2023-10-18*

Enjoy having my coffee and learning about the world. I especially like feel good local news

### 5/5 — Battery Hog

*2022-01-31*

The app works great except for the fact it eats up battery power at a fast rate.

### 5/5 — My Morning Go To

*2021-12-30*

It is how I start my mornings, on the bus when I worked and now in retirement with my morning coffee. Your writing team are accomplished and have interesting perspectives. I have been a subscriber for over 25 years, thank you all for what you do!

### 5/5 — Great resource for travel

*2021-10-16*

Having the Citizen on line is a very enjoyable feature of the newspaper. Having it on my phone is easy to use in cars and planes. Also going to my cottage I can enjoy the paper without having it physically with me.

### 5/5 — Ottawa Citizen e-Paper

*2021-09-29*

Hello One little thing I would like, is to read The Obituaries first, before heading off to work.. I prefer not to open the entire paper.. Sincerely Robb Rowe Kanata Hello, My request completed, Thank-You very much.. We really enjoy the e-paper, saving our land fills sites... Congrats to Postmedia for listening... Sincerely R. Rowe Kanata

### 5/5 — Frozen screen

*2020-09-04*

Unable to read the citizen on my iPad. A month ago I called and explained this problem. From your end the problem was resolved for one week. I could read the e-paper on my iPad. Then again the frozen screen problem started.
I am considering to cancel my subscription.
Thank you.

### 5/5 — It's a good news summary source.

*2020-08-11, version 4.10.2*

It's reliable and inexpensive.

### 5/5 — Ottawa Citizen

*2020-06-24, version 4.10.2*

I love reading the newspaper. It is the start of my day (with a coffee). I miss Sunday’s paper but understand you guys need a day off.
Thank you,
Sandy

### 5/5 — Great to get local news from trusted reporters

*2020-04-12, version 4.10.2*

I like the Citizen on the tablet. International and local news from reporters that are working to give a balanced view. I'm willing to pay for news from trusted sources. The paper on the tablet is even better than a paper version too. I can enlarge the type and pretend I don't need glasses! No wasted paper either as I don't like cutting down trees just for a paper I read once. I want my local paper to survive, and this format works great for me.

### 5/5 — E Paper

*2019-11-09, version 4.10.2*

Really enjoy this format, thankful not to have pounds of paper to recycle. Frequent traveller to Europe, nothing better than sitting in a cafe with coffee, croissant and the Citizen.
