Never sends alerts (yes, I have the feature turned on). Limited content. Why even bother?? ### 1/5 — Fails over and over again. Requires constant restart. *2022-02-04* This may be the worst app ever written! It can load two articles to read before needing to close and restart. After a morning of doing this a dozen times, I manage to get through the day’s news. Pathetic treatment of a customer base. Had to let go of my subscription. Emailed them but it has never been resolved. When does the Citizen plan to fix it? It is very frustrating not to be able to read more than 5-6 articles before needing to close the application and re-start it. And after that has been done once or twice, it’s the end: the page will not re-load at all! Please, please fix it! ### 1/5 — Still utter garbage: Never been able to access *2021-12-26* I’ve subscribed to the Citizen for years, and I have NEVER been able to sign in to this account to access the information I pay to read. Went through the activation rigamarole again - no change. Tech support, though friendly, is limited and has never identified the issue. Considering the other reviews of this, I am not an unusual case. If your intention is to primarily access the Citizen electronically I cannot recommend this to anyone but an enemy. Update: app remains terrible, cannot even get an email for a password reset to see if the app remains inoperaBle. DO NOT PAY FOR A SUBSCRIPTION ### 1/5 — This app sucks *2021-12-19* Nothing works. ### 1/5 — Can’t find server *2021-12-01* Always errors with can’t find server. App has been awful for a while now. ### 1/5 — Lazy journalism *2021-11-04, version 6.0.3* The app reflects the overall lackadaisical attitude of post media and Ottawa journalism in general. They are content to recycle old stories for days and often lack new content for half a week or more. If it is not new it is not news. ### 1/5 — Bugs have been introduced by the last version *2021-10-19, version 6.0.3* As indicated in another review the last version introduced some problems. - Opening a page, it seem to be opened twice - Then the scrolling does not work or works a bit then blocks and the UI is unresponsive, very difficult to scroll again or to go back - Last if you look at the battery percentage, while the UI is blocked it goes down at an alarming rate. Basically there is some new code creating a loop draining the CPU. Closing the app then restarting it seems to help. PLEASE FIX THIS BATTERY DRAIN ### 1/5 — Even worse now *2021-10-06, version 6.0.3* Since the most recent update I can only read 1-2 articles before it “jumps” to a new page which is a black screen and the loading circle. Most articles don’t come up at at all anymore, stale articles in some sections. ### 1/5 — App wont load *2021-09-30, version 6.0.2* All i get is a small green box that says reload, and it wont reload. The settings section is still there, but it does nothing, and the feedback email is an address that does not exist. ### 1/5 — App not working *2021-09-30, version 6.0.2* The app is not working, it just gives a “Reload” error message. The page for contacting the app support also doesn’t function. I contacted Apple and they will be telling the developer as well that there’s a bug in the app. ### 1/5 — No support, no function *2021-09-29, version 6.0.2* Nothing at all to redeem this app. It is not just bad, it’s actually useless. Nothing on screen except a button to Reload, which only reloads the reload button. The new version is nothing but a poorly disguised money grab. I guess they figure if social media is not allowed to publish Canadian news then this is the perfect opportunity to start charging. Nothing but greed and terrible app developers. Perhaps the OTrain architects were involved in this yet again Ottawa based fiasco. ### 1/5 — It’s a ripoff *2024-10-02* I subscribed to the ‘digital edition’ and they charged my Visa. But tapping on any article displays “This content is available to subscribers only”. Calling Postmedia customer service is a waste of time. They told me to delete the app and download it again, which made no difference. Today I updated to the latest version of the app. Same thing. Don’t waste your money or your time. ### 1/5 — It’s a ripoff *2024-09-04* I subscribed to the ‘digital edition’ and they charged my Visa. But the app only lets me read 5 articles. Tells me I only have a “limited edition”. Calling Postmedia customer service is a waste of time. I deleted it. ### 1/5 — New design is awful *2024-05-12* Links are showing only on quarter of page. Rest is white space. When you click link, it opens page and picture take 90% of page. On third link it ask to login. Not sure what is a purpose of this app at all. ### 1/5 — Headlines only *2024-04-25* Stick with web, why let them track your phone with this weak excuse for an app. ### 1/5 — Only paid content *2024-04-22* This app used to be my “Go To” app for local Ottawa news. This new update only lets me view content if I’m a paid subscriber. No thanks, deleting app as it’s now absolutely useless. I just search online and read it anyway. And now I won’t see any of your ads. ## Most praised reviews (7 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — App freezes *2020-01-18, version 4.8.1* I just upgraded from an iphone 7 to an 11. This app never froze on my old 7. Now it freezes routinely and the only remedy is to download it again. Most of your reports are depressing to all of us. ### 2/5 — Shows ADs for subscribers. *2026-06-24* The application is quite strange. Even with a subscription, it still shows ads. The ads appear in the middle of the screen, making it difficult to read the text. Additionally, the main page only uses half of the available space, leaving the other half blank. The EPaper app itself is great, and the web portal is also excellent. I’m not sure what this app is supposed to be. ### 2/5 — Latest version introduces bugs *2021-10-16* With the latest version issued October 10th, two bugs were introduced: - automatic download of new articles when you open a section is spotty. The only way I've found to get articles when opening a new section « National » for instance, is to quit the app, reopem it and then ooen the new section. -frequently when articles open, it seems to open twice, but the second version is either empty (loading but never loads) or there, but very slow to move forward. This also is partially fixed by reloading. ### 2/5 — Why does it Crash so much! *2020-03-24, version 5.3* In today’s newspaper, 24-Mar-2020, page A2, you say you have a brand new app very slick and fast. I ensured that I have the latest update and it still crashes a lot. Case in point, try to go to the Letters to the Editor....bam! It crashes and closes. Really!?!? ### 2/5 — Keeps freezing *2019-11-09, version 4.7* I’ve had this app for a year or two with out any problems but for the last two months it keeps freezing on me.
