Learn anywhere, anytime with the OU Study app. This app enhances your learning experience on mobile devices as an Open University student. So, you can access learning materials to study wherever and whenever you like. Benefits of using the OU Study app include: - Easy access to your module materials and study planner. - Download learning materials to study offline. - Keep track of key dates and progress. - Never miss a forum message. The OU Study app is for Open University students who are registered on a course or qualification. Sign in using your OU username and password (the same one you use to sign in to the website). USEFUL TIPS - There is a lot of information on your module website. So, it will take a few minutes for the app to load the first time you use it. Use a Wi-Fi connection for your first use. As the app caches some information, it will get quicker. - Download learning materials individually and batch download by week using Course downloads. Return to the Planner to access downloaded materials. If you need to free up space, delete them from the Course downloads screen. - The Planner within the app remembers the week you were studying last time. So, you can continue studying easily. You can always navigate to the current week to keep track of the key dates. - The OU Study app and your module website are synced. As you tick completed resources or save an answer, both the module website and the app are updated. - The majority of your module activities will be available in the app. Yet, for some, you will be directed to your browser to use the mobile version of the module website. - We try to prioritise requirements based on user feedback. If you have any feedback or suggestions, use the Feedback function within the app or leave a review on the App Store. Says “password can not be based on a dictionary word” tried random letters and numbers….. same thing ### 1/5 — No point to this app *2026-03-07, version 5.0.0.1* I don’t even know why they made this app - to do almost everything it sends you to your mobile browser. With virtually no functionality in the app just go to the OU mobile site instead. At least there’s no lag. ### 1/5 — Slow, dated and desperately in need of a serious update. *2026-02-06, version 4.4.1.5* Frankly, considering the cost of a university education in this day and age, you’d assume you’d at least get a functional app to aid your studies. This is the slowest to load, clunkiest and most anti-user app I have ever attempted to use for education. Things take a solid minute to load on a strong internet connection. Lots of the time, videos just won’t play, meaning I either spend 5 minutes of my very limited study time trying to dig out the relevant page on the website or I just skip over it and hope it wasn’t imperative. In the world we live in, a government backed organisation like the OU could surely have a decent, reliable app made for its students. Unfortunately a pock on the otherwise magnificent work of the Open University. ### 2/5 — Not good *2026-01-10, version 4.4.1.5* It doesn’t work properly … some things don’t link to the OU website such as video and some audio resources. An easy place to view certain areas quicker than you would online. Like navigating from the planner to assessments. But my goodness it’s painfully slow. As students are forced to use online resources as their main means of study this is extremely poor.
