### 3/5 — Was the best of the best, but has become flaky

*2025-02-11*

This beautiful app had everything that I was looking for and nothing that I didn’t need. I used it daily for years. But, presumably due to updates to iOS, it has been acting up lately. That is real shame…

### 4/5 — Take photo ?

*2024-04-14*

Great app ! Could you add a « take photo » button ? So we could add photo waypoint to the recorded track? Thanks

### 5/5 — App senza fronzoli

*2024-01-03*

### 4/5 — Almost perfect, but…

*2023-11-13, version 1.3*

I previously gave this app a 5-star review for being an easy-to-use and privacy-respecting fitness tracker. Generally speaking, it does what it should well and with a slick interface to boot.
However, I just had the app crash on me while saving the results of a 10-hour hike through the mountains. I ended up losing the recording so I was pretty bummed. Looking at other reviews, it seems this isn’t a completely one-off occurrence.
So, as much as I love the app and what it stands for in the midst of the pseudo-social media platforms that mainstream fitness trackers, I’ll likely be switching back to Strava myself to avoid running the risk of losing another big hike or run.

### 4/5 — Super gute App!

*2023-10-31*

### 5/5 — A sane offline runtracker

*2023-08-25*

OutRun is a fully offline, privacy-respecting, free run tracker on iOS. For some reason every mainstream alternative has tacked-on social media elements, requires an account, and/or shoves paid “features” in your face incessantly. OutRun has none of these anti-features, and I really appreciate that. It also has a very clean and interface, something I usually don’t expect in open source apps, and it’s very simple and easy to use.
I’m using a 2016 iPhone SE running iOS 15 and have had no issues with crashes or instability after a month of using the app. Can recommend whole-heartedly.

### 4/5 — A sane offline runtracker

*2023-08-17*

Part of me wants to leave 5 stars for the fact that it is a truly offline, privacy-respecting, free run tracker on iOS. Because for some reason every mainstream alternative has tacked-on social media elements, requires an account, and shoves paid “features” in your face incessantly.
OutRun has none of these anti-features, and I really appreciate that. It also has a very clean and interface, something I usually don’t expect in open source apps, and it’s very simple and easy to use.

My only negative is that average pace is not displayed on the run summary page. Oddly enough, there is a toggle in settings that explicitly enables pace display as you are recording. That works great, but once you save your workout you are suddenly locked out from that data and instead can only view speed. It seems like such an odd oversight that I’m partially convinced I’m missing something, but I have done a whole lot of digging to no avail. I see this app hasn’t been updated in a hot minute but I figure it’s worth a shot to leave my feedback.

### 5/5 — This was all I needed - perfect app

*2023-06-16, version 1.3*

I didn’t want a profile, I didn’t want to publish to Facebook or socials to show off, I didn’t want ads , I just wanted to track my runs, for me, no one else
Well, thank you Tim, there are a few good impassioned devs out there like you, and I’m glad they exist

### 3/5 — Awesome, but has a bug

*2023-05-15*

App is awesome! if you wanna something offline and private, go for it!

The only flaw is that it doesn't work in background. So if you start your route and them take a picture or change music in spotify, it stop recording and you lose what you've done so far.

### 5/5 — Privacy respecting, great UI

*2023-05-10, version 1.3*

The app does exactly what it should do, not more, not less. Highly recommended.

### 5/5 — TOTALLY FREE

*2023-05-07, version 1.3*

Great app for the basics. How far have you walked, with a map showing your route. How many calories have you burned.

No adds and no in app purchases.
Well worth a look.

### 5/5 — the best app ever

*2022-09-06*

Das beste! Ich liebe es!

### 5/5 — FREE AND OPEN SOURCE

*2022-06-21, version 1.3*

No ads. No data collection. Author doesn’t even accept donations.

Absolute champ. Amazing app. Use it every single day. Can’t beat it.

### 5/5 — EXCELLENT private running tracking!

*2022-05-27, version 1.3*

Finally thankful to have my data to myself and myself alone. The breakdown of runs is way better than the Workouts in the Apple Activity app. However, I was looking for something to show aggregate over time.

- All runs over a week, month, or all time
- Show best times, pace, highest altitude gain, all time etc.

Would pay for this to support app development! Thank you for making this!!

### 5/5 — The simplest, most professional privacy-focused running app

*2022-04-15, version 1.3*

Fantastic app. Route mapping is brilliant, metrics provided are useful, functionality is awesome.

Far and away one of the most impressive features is that this is ad-free, easy to use, and damn nice-looking. Tim has done a great job and should be commended on creating a Strava (etc.) alternative that has all the functionality with none of the tracking, logins, or annoying social features.

A few extra features (notifying at km/mile with a pace readout, elevation-distance graphing, custom workout names) could really round out the functionality, but overall it does almost all of what you want it to. The rest is probably only an update or two away anyway.

### 5/5 — Perfect

*2022-04-10*

Excellent app, it displays all the information you would expect in a clear and intuitive way. I love the fact that is privacy-focused, while it has all the features and stats you need or would expect. The design is also very nice, and easy to read while running. I recommend it totally !

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Fix Pauses!!!

*2026-05-01, version 1.3*

I really hate how anytime I pause the run, or that it auto-pauses, even if I make sure that I unpause it, that it’s recording and that it recognizes that I’m running, when I’ll go to save my workout, IT ALWAYS SAYS MOST OF MY TIME RUNNING WAS A PAUSE DURATION, LIKE WHAT THE HELL, NOW ALL MY STATS MAKE NO SENSE. I have a 9K with a 0:40 pace because it thought most of my time running was a pause… fix it please!!!

### 1/5 — Crashes all the time

*2021-11-20, version 1.3*

iOS 14.8.1 and the app crashes every other day. Can't finish a workout because of it. I even turned off the map, as told in the app. Doesn't help. Needs an update seriously bad.

### 1/5 — Unusable on iPhone SE 2020 with iOS 15+

*2021-11-07, version 1.3*

I absolutely loved this app when it worked -- simple and privacy-centric, apparently the only of its kind on the App Store.

Unfortunately, since iOS 15 (and intermittently before), the app is completely unusable. I'm able to start a run, but even with the map turned off to prevent crashes, the moment I navigate away from the app or my screen goes to sleep, the run is lost. Very frustrating to be pace-training and unable to see my progress. I hope the developer is able to put some time into solving these issues, as there is a need for a privacy-centric running app on the market. I'd happily pay for a premium version, assuming it worked!

### 1/5 — Было нормальное приложение

*2021-09-13*

Стало не нормальное.

### 1/5 — Why does the app keeps refreshing ?

*2021-04-09, version 1.3*

As soon as I change to some other apps in order to change music or check mails, the app will reset. It loses all the data. Next thing I know the app has stopped recording my miles.

### 1/5 — Crashes 90% of the times

*2021-03-03, version 1.3*

The app keeps on crashing in the background for no apparent reason and the whole workout disappears. Happens in 80-90% of the time.
I tried removing many other apps, keep maps and any other app that requires location access turned off to no avail. Highly buggy app.

### 1/5 — Does not access Apple iOS health data

*2020-09-22, version 1.2.1*

Despite me going into every menu I can find including Apple‘s iOS health data and enabling all access for this app it shows there’s nothing to import and there’s no data in the app.

Pretty disappointed in this app.

### 1/5 — Slow response

*2020-08-31, version 1.2.1*

Lost today’s cycling records

Should have quick recording startng,,

### 1/5 — Useless!

*2020-05-29, version 1.1.2*

Stupid app stops tracking when I put the phone in my pocket or blank my screen.
USELESS!!!!!

### 2/5 — Does not always work

*2020-10-05, version 1.2.1*

Only saves my workouts half the time, so I’m deleting it. (It is very pretty).

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — simple, easy to use, and privacy respecting!

*2026-04-20, version 1.3*

a breathe of fresh air amidst the apps that demand to know everything about you just to show you simple operations like a map.

### 5/5 — Most privacy friendly running app

*2026-04-01, version 1.3*

Best option I have found for those that feel no need to share their running routes and other information with the world

### 5/5 — Excellent!

*2025-10-22, version 1.3*

Great work on the app! I use it all the time and appreciate its oss nature.

### 5/5 — Great

*2025-10-04, version 1.3*

Finally, an open source run tracker app that does what you want it to without any gimicks

### 5/5 — Perfect

*2025-04-09, version 1.3*

Definitely one of my top five favorite apps. It does what it’s supposed to do so well. With a great interface, no ads, zero privacy concerns.

### 5/5 — Everything you need, nothing you don’t

*2025-03-29, version 1.3*

Just opened the OutRun app for the first time in a while today and I was reminded why I kept it on my phone without deleting it all this time.

The UI is clean, elegant and focused and recording workouts (this app can record more than just runs) is easy. The app also has no bloat, making it run quickly, even on my aging iPhone 11.

Another note: the app download size is really small which just shows how unbloated the app really is.
Awesome app!

### 5/5 — The best

*2025-02-23, version 1.3*

Edit: Turns out that my brand-new 3rd generation SE has a case of “ghost touch”, which was the cause of the flaky behaviour.

This beautiful app had everything that I was looking for and nothing that I didn’t need. I used it daily for years. But, presumably due to updates to iOS, it has been acting up lately. That is real shame…

### 5/5 — Stunning!

*2024-11-21*

I rarely write review, however this app obviously deserve one.

Beautiful design, very straightforward, it displays the map during the run (extra useful if lost) and every insights after saving.

As a developper myself, I appreciate the Apple design language being respected, the compatibility (export backup and GPX trace) and the fact that it is open source is the cherry on the cake.

Compliments to the author, I’ll continue to test it and will be reaching out to help if I can!

### 5/5 — simple and effective

*2024-05-20*

great app!!

### 5/5 — Great App!

*2024-02-21, version 1.3*

I really enjoyed using Strava with all its capabilities and nice interface. However, the terrible thing about it is its lack of privacy. You can set your own privacy settings of course, but Strava has access to all your information. I thought, “Oh no! I’m going to lose stats, and have to go old school and log it all manually!” But Outrun has been a great replacement. Been walking and hiking so far and will add cycling in the summer. Outrun is totally privacy focused with a slick interface and it works really well. No crashes so far. I haven’t really tried the export feature yet so I can log my workouts in an external application but I’ll try that soon.
