The writing is good, but it’s padded between countless clicks of shuffling fuel and repairs and then losing to a bad dice roll, over and over. ### 3/5 — Extremely Hard Even on Easy *2025-07-12, version 3.2* The gameplay is novel, but high repetitive. You jump to a new star system and decide which planets to visit. There are 3 types of planet, each of which offers different resources, but each type costs you different resources to mine. Run out of any of three key resources and the game ends. There are tech upgrades that allow you to jump further, use less of a resource, and so on, but you find those randomly, and can lose them as well. I’ve had long games where I only got 1-2 techs, and didn’t have the resources necessary to install them. The game is very heavy on randomization—random events can easily end your game by, for example destroying your engines without the resources needed to repair them, or dropping you in a star system that you can’t jump away from because you haven’t got the tech upgrades that allow for longer jumps. Star systems are mostly randomized so it’s easy to encounter a string of systems where you can’t replenish your oxygen and so you die. There are four ways to win, but after 50+ play-throughs, I’ve never even gotten close to one of them, and I shudder to think how rough this game would be on Moderate. The language system for dealing with aliens is fun but gets repetitive after a while, and the alien races are entirely interchangeable. Far too stylish to be in the same league as FTL, far too abstract to be classified as ‘just another resource and build game’, far too clever to allow itself to be easily mastered. I preferred the purity and simplicity of the original, but the remaster retains the core elements despite adding some unnecessary fuss to the graphics. Sometimes less is more. If this game was a book I’d never get bored of delving in now and again. Ich hätte mir das Spiel nicht gekauft, wenn es eine Demo gegeben hätte. Da sind 5,49 € so leid es mir tut einfach nur Frust. Aber umtauschen geht ja wohl leider nicht. Hab das jetzt vielleicht 1 1/2-2 Std. gespielt und weiß nicht, ob ich jetzt nochmal neu anfangen will. Selbst auch „Einfach“: Direkt mal ohne Treibstoff nach ner Stunde trotz aufgerüstetem Schiff einfach mal durch 2-3 Aktionen handlungsunfähig. So macht das Ganze keinen Spaß. Every run? So….. how is this a game? ### 1/5 — Luck only *2025-04-11, version 3.2* I tried playing without hints, and I was failing faster each run. I looked up beginner tips, and barely any Benefit. This game appears to be mostly luck based. I have enjoyed many a rogue like, and this game is up there in purely luck based gameplay. There is no chance I will ever get all of the words, i “forget” technologies as fast as I learn them. I can attempt to keep a supply or resources, but I can mine a dozen worlds in a row and still not get the basic repair metal. This game is not fun. I am already sick of scrimping by just to get mostly the same random encounters as every other game. It is resource management, without having a consistent method to get the resource you need, and if if you find a new ship or tech, you might not be able to do anything with them if you didn’t use up your few cargo spaces holding onto 3 cobalt for the last 30 jumps. ### 1/5 — Way too random *2023-01-05, version 3.2* Random problems with no solutions. Okay this game is just meh. It is similar to FTL, but with combat completely stripped out alongside any actual gameplay. This leaves you with a resource management system that is bland - and which is the sole focus of the game. Basically the gameplay just involves sliding around materials. That’s it. How much you get when collecting materials is completely RNG based, heck the game is so simplistic the entire thing is unforgivingly RNG based. A good run can just end because of RNG. Practically: there is not strategy to how you use resources, the only thing that matters is RNG. On certain planets you can interact with aliens, which just comes down to ‘maybe you’ll get X material if your lucky’; it’s practically meaningless. The game has multiple endings but which are simply ‘go to here on the map’. They are badly written and unsatisfying. The same goes for the story of the game, lazy and unsatisfying. For a roguelike, the game lacks any replayability beyond the first couple of runs; there is very little to explore in-universe. ### 1/5 — Game of chance *2020-08-28, version 3.1* I might just be no good at this game but I’ve given it 1 star on the basis of it being a game of chance/luck rather than one of strategy. There are good elements but when your path through the game is largely out of your hands then anything that you think you’re doing right is just luck and within a few turns the game can be over. This doesn’t come across as it being a difficulty question, which you navigate by learning, it’s just random. It’s a real shame that it just isn’t fun to play. Failure is built in to this type of game so failing a lot isn’t the problem. It is the fact that playing it just isn’t fun. You play, you die, new game world generated, repeat until you get lucky enough to unlock better ships. But that’s the problem. It is such a chore to do anything with the starting ship that it just feels like a painful grind getting anything else unlocked. What I’m saying is that at some point I realized I had been playing for an hour and was miserable. I wasn’t having any fun. At which point I wondered why in the hell I was even playing this. That’s the whole problem I can’t run this game on my iPhone XR without it freezing and stuttering. WEIRD PLEASE FIX. It’s back!!! *2025-01-17, version 3.2* So… awhile back this game (which has been on all phones I’ve had over the last idk- 9 years maybe) disappeared! I was super upset as it is one of 5 games I always have on my phone. But… last week… it reappeared!!! I am veryyy happy with that turn of events! I highly recommend the game to anyone who likes sci-fi, comics, exploration, rogue-lite RPG story driven games. It involves NO flashy colors and the soundtrack is very calming while feeling like-‘80’s space lol. I mentin the light and soundscape bccI have awful migraines and this is one game i can play when i am miserable and cant sleep nor can i be in a bright room- it is also perfect if you are an insomniac or have anxiety. I never feel as if it is a waste of time and the story is neat.
