### 3/5 — Good But

*2026-05-05*

I like the app, the interface is great and it’s easy to navigate. I like the suggestions and challenges. It’s kinda like Strava meets AllTrails. The main downside is that while you can record a hike offline I haven’t found a way to save the hike if I’m offline. This is super inconvenient if you’re without signal for a multi day trip because it also doesn’t appear that you can have multiple offline hikes waiting to be saved. Being able to save offline hikes would likely bring this up to 5 stars for me.

### 2/5 — Needs work

*2026-02-14, version 7.6.0*

Not intuitive, missing community parks, no way to add an activity after the fact, difficult to add suggestions to the map (or near impossible) because there’s no guidance, how-to, or help. I was just outside for 30min but can I add where, when, or what I was doing? Nope.

### 5/5 — Long time user and writer for The Outbound

*2025-03-14*

…As a solo traveling landscape photographer and blogger, I use this app pretty often on my travels. Not just to find out about hikes in the general area, but to help navigate where I’m at, to where I’m going to be as the next stop on my journey. As a long-time writer for them as well, their new downloadable features is a “must have” for any adventurer! It’s truly a game changer when you’re on the road somewhere and don’t have service. Definitely a great app to have if you’re looking for well written blogs and great outdoor activities.

Not only does it have great hiking trails and user generated reviews, but it also provides endless ideas of ways to enjoy the outdoors when not on hiking trail including finding scenic overlooks, enjoying local parks, and finding great places for a bike ride. What is especially awesome is that it includes international and national adventures, so it truly opens up the world. Highly recommend!!!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Billed for subscription I didn't sign up for

*2025-09-09, version 7.0.0*

There is no way to contact the company about this scam of a practice. The app is not usable.

### 1/5 — Not disability friendly

*2025-01-08, version 6.2.0*

According to the Outbound app, there are a total of 5 ADA accessible outdoor experiences in all of Australia. I’ve asked them if this will be improved in the app anytime soon. If not, pretty disappointed a large portion of the population (about 5.5 million Australians) is excluded by the Outbound and clearly only catering for able bodied people.

### 1/5 — Keeps crashing

*2022-10-19, version 4.15.0*

I downloaded and every time I go to open it it crashes. Only get as far as searching for a trail and then goes kaput

### 1/5 — Worthless

*2022-09-26, version 4.15.0*

The app is not comparable to the other trail apps. It basically helped find the trailhead which I can do with Google maps. It crashed multiple times, wouldn’t update location, and downloaded routes wouldn’t pull up. I’m going back to All Trails.

### 1/5 — Never loads anything

*2020-10-02, version 3.1.4*

This seriously never opens anything when I hit “near me” it is constantly giving me the loading signal no matter how good my connection.

### 1/5 — Not enough Canadian trails

*2020-08-18, version 3.1.4*

Please people who make these apps include Canada!

### 1/5 — App search function not loading results.

*2020-08-02, version 3.1.4*

Delete.

### 1/5 — Won’t load any adventures

*2020-06-18, version 3.1.4*

Wife and I used to love this app, now none of the adventures will pull on on her phone, my phone, or even our computers.

### 1/5 — Really want to like this

*2020-06-06, version 3.1.4*

I really want to like this but it’s so buggy. It always signs me out and it can’t seem to save. Definitely want to like this but the bugs need to be worked out

### 1/5 — Horrible

*2020-04-18, version 3.1.3*

Nothing loads. What the heck is this?

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Solid Hiking and Biking App

*2026-02-20, version 7.6.0*

So far I have enjoyed using the app, I like the saved trails available through Outbound.

### 5/5 — Long time User - Excellent

*2025-12-05, version 7.1.0*

I love this app because it gives me numerous adventures to try outside…. not just hiking. I’ve used it for fishing, scenic drives, walks around a town, and so on. Outbound also can send you emails with suggested adventures to try outside, such as the “Best trails under 5 miles in the PNW” to explore.

### 5/5 — The best!

*2025-11-17, version 7.1.0*

I’ve been loving the Outbound app. It's super motivating to see people in the community sharing their adventures, photos, and reviews. The app feels fun, positive, and encourages you to explore more. Highly recommend for anyone who wants inspiration and a simple way to log their outdoor time! I love the beautiful design of it!

### 5/5 — Best Outdoor Adventure App!

*2025-11-02*

I’ve been using the Outbound App for years and it just gets better and better with every update! It’s a great app for finding adventures in your own town AND when you are traveling and want to find a place to stretch the legs. I love the offline tracking and the mileage accuracy compared to others. This app is the key to experiencing those adventures that will stick with you for a lifetime.

### 5/5 — My go-to for finding dog-friendly trails

*2025-05-29*

Been using The Outbound to plan weekend stuff with my dog—hikes, beach spots, chill campgrounds, you name it. Super easy to filter for dog-friendly places, and the recs feel legit, not like some random listicle. I’ve found a few hidden gems near me I never would’ve thought to check out. It’s like having an outdoorsy friend who’s down to share their secrets. If you like getting outside and bringing your pup along, this app’s clutch.

### 5/5 — Great Outdoor Adventure App

*2025-05-17, version 6.5.0*

This app is different from most trail apps. There are various outdoor adventures to give you ideas. From scenic drives, camping, hiking, fishing, etc. Maps are provided with mileage, elevation gain, reviews, photos, etc.

### 5/5 — Your New Adventure Buddy!

*2025-05-03*

This adventure app makes planning your next outing or trip so fun and accessible!

I love to spend time flipping through my area’s trails and activities— it’s a way better use of my time than scrolling social media. It’s fun to show friends and family options for hikes, picnics, and places to catch the sunset.

The tracking features are a great way to see how active I’ve been throughout the month. Many of the maps have options to download for offline use, which gives a confidence boost when hitting an unknown area.

Definitely check out this app if you’re looking for an easy and fun way to spend more time outside this year!

### 5/5 — The True Outdoor Adventure Hub

*2025-04-21*

I've been a longtime supporter of The Outbound, following them since their early days and enjoying many adventures that I discovered from their website and emails.

What sets The Outbound apart from other outdoor platforms is a vibrant, supportive community that shares unique ideas and insights for outdoor adventures. While many apps focus on just a handful of activities, The Outbound serves as a true adventure hub—offering inspiration for everything from picnicking and swimming to rock climbing, camping, and discovering waterfalls and lakes.

Whether you're seeking a challenging hike, a quiet spot to relax by the river, or a family-friendly day outdoors, you'll find it all with The Outbound!

### 5/5 — local beta!!

*2025-03-31, version 6.4.0*

get the beta on your local spots or use it to plan an adventure away from home! app can be slow but they’re always improving.

### 5/5 — LITTLE TIME TO PLAN

*2025-03-26, version 6.4.0*

Luckily with this app I can open up and find something great to do within minutes and miles. Whether a Hike or a full adventure without searching for hours trying to figure it out. Love this app
