Komoot free maps much better. ### 3/5 — Ok but… *2025-04-04* I find this app ok but a bit clunky. In particular to import a gps I think you have to go to sister website to import and then the app picks it up? But please tell me otherwise! ### 2/5 — IGN needs to take a look at OS *2024-01-09* I don’t understand why people are raving about the quality of the maps. IGN could do much better in terms of clarity and detail, particularly compared to OS 25k. But actually, openstreetmap and even Gmaps are better than both of them. ### 2/5 — Too dense, no help *2023-10-30* Lots of incredibly detailed maps, but the resolution is so low that, when you zoom in, the maps are useless. No help finding hiking trails or circuits in my area, which is an ecotourism region with plenty of trails. The subscription has no trial period. For hiking information, look elsewhere. ### 2/5 — No planning route option *2023-08-24* It’s a basic mapping application so gets 2 stars. It is without the features you would expect from modern navigation app. I’ve got the pro IGN version for France, maps are okay, but there seems to be no way to plan/plot a route prior to setting off. These guys need to look at what OS maps provide for the UK to see what functionality they are missing. It’s a poor offering and desperately needs improvement ### 4/5 — Great but flawed *2023-05-30* Very good app with lots of bike routes on IGN’s base maps. But it isn’t comprehensive by any stretch, missing many signed and designated routes. Plus, the view is set bizarrely: it’s impossible to read labels, which shrink as you zoom in. So you can’t tell what town you might be heading for, nor which road you are traveling on. This seems like it would be a preference setting in the app, but it seems impossible to change. ### 3/5 — Téléchargement carte *2023-04-08* Depuis la dernière mise à jour iOS 16.4.1 le logiciel ne fonctionne plus sur mon iPhone 12 mini . Contrairement à Iphigenie, elle ne « saute » pas en cours de route et restitue fidèlement les trajets. Par contre, une fois terminé, il m’a été impossible d’exporter la trace, un message d’erreur m’indique de configurer un compte internet, ce qui est pourtant déjà fait. Je ne peux par ailleurs pas envoyer de mail pour signaler ce problème, pour les mêmes raisons. Ce qui m’oblige à laisser un avis, du coup plutôt négatif... autre point négatif, la qualité des cartes, très peu lisibles en zoomant, j’espère que cela ne concerne que la version gratuite! ### 3/5 — Awkward *2019-08-31* Seriously shallow learning curve. Almost too much info for cycling. How does one follow such tiny map info while riding and trying to navigate. With the latest update, V5, I can no longer download 1:25k IGN maps. Looking at alternative apps, I have found that by comparison, the rendering with this app is very poor. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Mystifying, impenetrable, useless *2025-08-27* How does it work? Anyone’s guess. No instructions in the app, except for a few fairly useless FAQ’s which don’t give anything helpful. Scroll in when using the cycle maps and all place names, river names etc just disappear, they melt away before your eyes, like a mirage. I’ve paid £20 for this junk. ### 1/5 — Don’t like this app *2024-05-16, version 6.5.7* I asked for a refund and got one. You zoom in to see map details and it’s a blur. The IGN 1:25000 maps used are not the latest available and have paths missing. I’m now trying IGNrando’ app which has great zoom and the latest maps and is cheaper. I haven’t tested any other functionality of either app yet. If you haven’t already, check out the French geoportail map website. It’s great for looking at maps on a computer. ### 1/5 — Appli nulle sauf si vous êtes en métropole *2023-10-23* Ne propose que la carte ign de la France et pas les DOM-TOM… ou alors elle propose des cartes que vous pouvez avoir gratuitement avec d’autres appli Je déconseille fortement ### 1/5 — Je garde Iphigénie *2020-06-26* En résumé : Oblige à créer un compte. Pas d'aide en ligne. Prise en main frustrante au départ mais pas trop difficile finalement. Impossible d'importer des traces GPX. Recherche de traces pas facile, l'offre semble pauvre. Je ne suis pas convaincue. Dans le détail : Mon abonnement à Iphigénie (appli IGN) arrive bientôt à échéance, et j'ai décidé de jeter un coup d'œil à celle-ci. Le premier contact est extrêmement frustrant. Après avoir créé un compte (impossible de faire quoique ce soit sans, c'est déjà un très mauvais point) je me retrouve devant une carte IGN de résolution tellement basse qu'elle est inutilisable. Ça commence bien. L'aide en ligne ne propose rien qu'une FAQ sans intérêt. A moi de me débrouiller pour comprendre comment fonctionne l'appli. Heureusement après quelques tâtonnements je finis par trouver le menu qui permet de choisir son fond de carte, il y a plusieurs possibilités dont Open Street Map, très utile en ville, beaucoup moins en rando. Bon, je vais pouvoir tester un peu quand même. Deuxième étape, les traces. L'application en offre mais la recherche n'est pas très facile et l'offre semble à première vue plutôt pauvre. On peut créer ses propres traces en choisissant des points qui seront reliés par des droites. Je n'ai pas trouvé le moyen d'importer des traces d'une autre application, ça pour moi c'est un point bloquant. Conclusion : Je garde Iphigénie. Malgré ses défauts elle me convient beaucoup mieux que celle-ci. ### 1/5 — Seeehr langsam *2019-09-06* Eine der schlechtesten Kartenapps die ich kenne. Die Kartenkacheln laden extrem langsam, obwohl ich ein pro-Abo bezahlt habe. Selbst in Frankreich, über WLAN oder LTE- man wartet. Da das Kartenmaterial auch nicht so super ist werde ich das Abo sicher nicht verlängern. ### 1/5 — App doesn’t work offline at all (v4.25) *2019-08-31, version 5.0.3* I have used Outdoors France for several years, and it worked reasonably OK. But this year June 2019 just as I was going abroad an update was released, this removed all the offline maps, then I find I can’t download them because in v4.24 the app crashed when you tried to select the area for download. This bit was fixed in v4.25 but then when you select the area of say 5MB, but when it starts to download it says it’s 20GB!!! I’ve tried letting it run past the original estimate but it appears to be downloading all of France if it’s really 20GB. Despite some initial replies which got us to v4.24, no response for over a week!!! The app is still broken. So my advice is sadly that you MUST fully test the offline capability BEFORE committing to this app. I bought this app, as part of the Outdoors GPS UK subscription, which works beautifully. Sadly this year the Outdoors France has let me down badly and I had to buy Viewranger instead. Further to the above, and by way of feedback for developers. First you really do need to carefully test your product before rolling out updates. Also, when it’s working correctly the offline Map selection is imprecise. By that I mean that you select a given area and it’s hard to know exactly whether what you selected will cover you exactly, so you end up downloading larger maps than needed. For users, it’s therefore important that before you use it in a remote area without an internet connection, that you fully check that what you think you downloaded is actually available offline. It’s not possible to check what area you have downloaded, except by going offline and testing the actual route where you wish to walk/cycle etc. Otherwise the app works fine, and I’m sure that the developers will fix it. My advice to anyone else, is NEVER update a working app before you go on holiday!!! Also if you own two devices, make sure that you change the iPhone/iPad settings so that it does NOT update your other device. I updated my iPhone, but the iPad was still working. Then a day later the iPad had automatically updated and so I was left without any working mapping for France. Updated....August 2019. After several months of the app not working, the developers have released a completely new version 5.0 It’s fixed the problems with the version above. But my comments above regarding updating before or whilst you are away and needing your app to work are still are still advised. The new App, has a few minor bugs, which I've already reported, but not had any feedback about yet. ### 1/5 — Rubbish *2019-08-31* Downloaded tiles to view offline, managed to look at them once then they disappeared. Was told only mainland France is covered but friend has downloaded same tiles of Corsica and they can clearly be viewed on their iPad offline. Still rubbish. 2 weeks in Corsica and a week in the French alps and the developers NOW say there is an update. TOO LATE. my holidays are over and I have paid for a worthless app. REFUND REQUIRED!!!!! **Developer response:** Thanks for the feedback. We'd appreciate you updating your review once you're able to download the latest app and give it a try. ### 1/5 — probleme carte offline et desabonnement *2019-07-07* j’avais souscrit à cette appli pour pouvoir m’orienter sans activer le 3/4G et perdre de la batterie, les carte ne se sont jamais telechargées correctement (bug qui plante l’application, et dès que l’on ferme l’appli et la réouvre, on a à nouveau la carte de france entiere et il faut zoomer et attendre un eventuel chargement...) cette année je pense à resilier mon abonnement pour ne pas redepenser inutilement 27€, ça fait 1h que je cherche comment faire et j’ai été obligé de bloquer mon compte paypal->appstore car je ne trouve tjrs pas. **Developer response:** Merci pour les commentaires. All small and marked paths are included. Et pour une vingtaine d’euros par an d’abonnement à l’IGN, on peut télécharger les cartes des endroits où l’on n’aura pas de réseau.
