## What is OutdoorScore?

That pavement is hotter than you think. OutdoorScore tells you exactly how long your dog's paws can touch it.

Stop checking three apps to answer one question: is it a good time to go outside? OutdoorScore turns live conditions into a single 0–100 score for what you're doing — starting with the dog — and names the factor holding it back.

BUILT FOR DOG OWNERS FIRST
Asphalt can run 40–60°F hotter than the air, and a 75°F afternoon can push pavement past the burn threshold. Dogs don't get a warning until the damage is done.

• Paw-safe contact time — how many minutes paws can touch the surface right now, from published burn-threshold research
• Crossing times — when pavement hits caution and danger today, and when it cools off
• Walking surface — asphalt, concrete, or grass; concrete has measured 104°F where asphalt hit 124°F
• A timed 7-second ground test, and live paw safety on your Lock Screen
• Hot-car cabin projections at 10, 30, 60 minutes
• Canine heat strain, and cold guidance for paws and short-coat breeds

KNOW WHEN TO GO, NOT JUST WHETHER
"It's hot" doesn't help at 5pm when the dog still needs walking. Tell OutdoorScore how long you walk and when you're free, and it names the safest window ahead — fifteen minutes at lunch is a different answer from ninety after work. Set a reminder for when you usually head out and it opens straight to today's conditions.

FIVE PROFILES, FIVE DIFFERENT ANSWERS
A generic forecast tells a runner, a parent, a dog owner, and an outdoor worker the same thing. OutdoorScore doesn't.

• Dogs — burn risk, paw-safe contact time, canine heat strain
• Weather — comfort, UV, storms, pressure, heat and cold
• Exercise — exertion heat limits, hydration, air quality
• Kids — sun exposure, short-session heat and cold windows
• Worker — heat and cold stress, hearing risk, work/rest guidance

SMOKE AND POLLEN, BEFORE THEY BITE
OutdoorScore checks NASA satellite fire detections near you and warns when wind is carrying smoke your way — often before the air quality number catches up. See how far the nearest fire is and whether you're downwind. Pollen too.

DESIGNED BY A SAFETY PROFESSIONAL
Built by a Certified Industrial Hygienist and Certified Safety Professional (CIH/CSP) with 25+ years assessing heat, air, and noise exposure. Every recommendation traces to a published source: OSHA, NIOSH, CDC, EPA, NWS, AAP, AVMA, and U.S. Navy heat-stress standards.

Scores are informational, not a substitute for official alerts, workplace requirements, or veterinary or medical advice.

MADE FOR REAL ROUTINES
Save the places you walk and set a check-in reminder for each. Return to one and the score arrives with context: how far it moved since your last check. Works on iPhone, Apple Watch, and widgets, in imperial or metric. History stays on your devices unless you enable iCloud sync.

WHAT'S FREE, WHAT'S PRO
Free, with no check limits: your score and the profile you pick at setup — pavement temperature, paw-safe contact time, the surface picker, the ground test, Lock Screen paw safety — plus the safest window for your next walk, a daily reminder, smoke and pollen warnings, hot-car projections, lightning, and two saved places.

Pro adds depth and reach: every hour behind your walk window, the burn-window timeline and surface trend, sun-exposure limits, heat and cold reference tables, reminders for unlimited places, history and PDF reports, and every other profile.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.7 — 2026-09-08

We keep improving the app to help you get more done with less effort. Enjoy a faster, more efficient experience and useful updates designed to make everyday tasks easier.

### 1.6 — 2026-09-05

The app now dresses for your weather — and a purchase bug that could lock Pro users out of what they paid for is fixed.

A PALETTE FOR YOUR COLD SEASON When your local fall and winter arrive and the temperature actually drops, OutdoorScore switches to a cool Alpine palette. It reads the same thermometer that turns on wind chill, frostbite timing, and cold paw guidance — so the look changes exactly when the advice does. If you are somewhere warm in January, nothing changes. Southern hemisphere is handled properly, and Settings can pin the app to one look year-round.

FIXED: PURCHASES NOW STICK Some purchases unlocked Pro and then quietly lost it again — most often when the app could not reach the App Store to re-check the receipt, which it treated as proof that nothing had been bought. Access is no longer given up on an inconclusive check. If this happened to you, just open the app: Pro restores itself, and Restore Purchases is in Settings if you would rather do it by hand.

ALSO IN THIS RELEASE • Going offline no longer costs you Pro access • The seasonal palette has both a light and a dark appearance, so it follows your Appearance setting • Score colors stay green, amber, and red in every season — they signal risk, not decoration

OutdoorScore is a planning aid, not veterinary advice. When in doubt, test the ground.

### 1.5.1 — 2026-09-02

Improved app stability and performance with fixes for reported issues, making everyday use smoother and more reliable.

### 1.5 — 2026-08-29

Pavement holds the day's heat for hours after the sun goes down. OutdoorScore 1.5 finally accounts for it.

PAVEMENT THAT REMEMBERS THE DAY Asphalt doesn't cool down when the UV index hits zero. OutdoorScore now reads the last 12 hours of conditions before estimating the surface, so an evening walk no longer looks safe just because the sun has set. In hot climates this is the difference between a green light and a 120°F sidewalk.

TELL US WHAT YOU'RE WALKING ON Asphalt, concrete, or grass. Under the same sun, concrete has been measured at 104°F where asphalt hit 124°F — so the ground you actually walk on changes the answer. Switch surfaces and every reading updates instantly.

THE 7-SECOND GROUND TEST, TIMED Press the back of your hand to the pavement and let the app count it out, with a tick you can feel so you don't have to watch the screen. Tell it whether you could hold on, and OutdoorScore compares your answer to its own estimate.

LIVE PAW SAFETY WHILE YOU WALK Start a walk and pavement conditions stay on your Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island — the current surface temperature, how long paws can safely be in contact, and a countdown to when conditions change.

WHEN IT COOLS OFF IS NOW FREE Today's reading, your safe contact time, and when conditions next change are free for everyone. Pro adds the full hour-by-hour forecast, the surface-temperature trend, alerts, and the other profiles.

ALSO IN THIS RELEASE • Paw-risk levels are now derived from one contact-time table, so the risk badge and the "limit contact to about N minutes" guidance can never disagree • Breed guidance for Small, Medium, Large, and Flat-faced dogs — advisories tighten for the breeds that overheat fastest • Pavement estimates now work properly when Apple Weather is unavailable • New cited sources for the ground test and surface temperatures in Settings → Health Guidance Sources

OutdoorScore is a planning aid, not veterinary advice. When in doubt, test the ground.

### 1.4.4 — 2026-08-28

Bug fixes and a new lower price for lifetime access. Pay once and enjoy the app forever with no recurring subscription.
