### 4/5 — Highest quality video player on IOS… if you pay

*2026-08-13, version 2026.6*

this is basically just reskinned mpv for ios, and that makes it the best player by default. the problem is that if you use it for free it forces low quality scaling that makes everything blurry

would be nice to get more customization similar to the options available in mpv

### 3/5 — Promising App That Can Be Even Better

*2026-07-25*

Outplayer is a really good app with a lot of potential. The UI is clean, and the overall experience is enjoyable. With a few key improvements, it could easily become one of the best video players.

The two features I feel are most important are:

1. More playback speed options – Please add finer controls like 1.1x, 1.2x, 1.3x, etc., instead of only the standard speed presets. This would make watching videos much more comfortable.
2. Manual aspect ratio controls – It would be great to have the ability to manually force different aspect ratios (such as Fit, Fill, Stretch, 16:9, 4:3, or Original). This would help when videos don’t display correctly.

Overall, it’s an excellent app that just needs these features to make it even better. Keep up the great work!

### 4/5 — Almost perfect

*2026-06-12, version 2026.5*

I use Outplayer daily as my default for watching videos. It’s one of the few apps I’ve purchased the full version of and it’s easily worth the price. It collects NO USER DATA; try finding another app that doesn’t. Its only major deficiency is its inability to cast videos. With that fixed, a few minor nitpick-y enhancements would make it perfect—eg the ability to change the library folder location, view the library while watching a video in PIP, or rename multiple videos at once. I hope the creator’s still making substantive updates because it’s so close to being the best player available. Well done—

### 4/5 — Fabulous app

*2026-06-11*

Few things missing
Multi channel audio support with spacial audio (iPadOS)
Custom aspect ratio and crop feature
Subtitles sometimes are not moving beyond video although there are black bars

### 5/5 — The best file transfer solution in addition to the best player

*2026-05-31*

Faster than AirDrop to get files back and forth, cross platform

### 4/5 — Add stretch mode

*2026-05-22, version 2026.4*

Amazing player and clean UI. Please add a proper stretch mode for fullscreen videos.

### 2/5 — Zoom function doesn’t work

*2026-05-18, version 2026.4*

And the auto rotation doesn’t work… off or on it just stays horizontal Beyond the fact I can’t zoom it’s a pretty good app.. I get that figured out I’ll change to 5

### 2/5 — Casting from iOS

*2026-05-17, version 2026.4*

App is great except that it’s missing/has removed casting features which greatly limits the purpose of it

### 5/5 — Amazing Offline Video Player

*2026-05-14*

Its very quick and very good with no messy settings snd UI features. No annoying ads so far. Everything is Perfect.

### 4/5 — Great but one issue

*2026-05-06, version 2026.4*

This is a great app to watch your own videos on and worth the upgrade too but one issue I have is it annihilates my iPad Pro’s battery! It’s a brand new one fully specced and it drained the battery from 80% to 10% with just five hours of playback with screen at 50% brightness the whole time - no other apps open, no internet on, no background refresh or location services etc

If you can make it less power hungry then it’d be a five-star app 👍

### 5/5 — Best video player

*2026-05-05, version 2026.4*

Works like it says on the tin.

### 5/5 — suggestion

*2026-05-02, version 2026.3*

Support importing videos directly from the iOS/iPad OS Photos app for playback.

### 5/5 — Phenomenal media player

*2026-05-01, version 2026.3*

My personal opinion this is one of the best players on iOS and it’s well worth supporting the developer.

This player is a kin to IINA on macOS and has a lot of the frameworks from that application.

It’s extremely versatile.
You can stream video files directly from iCloud or over file sharing such as Samba SMB.
You can import files directly into the app which is stored locally .
The app is extraordinarily fast, just try scrubbing through a video and watch what happens.

Very well made app

Love it, thanks for all the effort

### 5/5 — Best PiP

*2026-04-29, version 2026.3*

VLC fails on mkv PiP, Infuse begs for money every 2 seconds. Outplayer outplays them both!

### 5/5 — This is better then vlc

*2026-04-27, version 2026.3*

If you want you can consider getting the pro if it is a one time purchase

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — There are better options.

*2026-07-06, version 2026.5*

Just wanted a free video app, don't want to see features I can click then be informed come on pay up.

I wish there was a way to just hide anything in these apps that was paid junk.

Moved to infuse app, if that fails I'll use Vic.

### 1/5 — Missing one feature

*2026-06-23, version 2026.5*

It's an amazing app, but I'd like to have videos be able to loop by default as an option. I tried to contact the dev but they seem to be unresponsive.

### 1/5 — mpv yet it's closed source. make it make sense

*2026-06-16, version 2026.5*

1 star til you open source it

### 1/5 — Wastes 1/2 GB Data & Documents

*2026-06-10, version 2026.5*

It’s a 35.5 MB app. Why is it wasting HALF A GIGABYTE of memory with Data/Documents when deleted and reloaded fresh? It’s a slush fund for wasted memory and Lego developers. I really don’t buy Apple anymore. And especially no iOS apps anymore with the garbage quality, Apple’s complicity and the simple mindedness and the subscription’ scourge. If you’re over 40 you walk away from Apple, as they have us first.

### 1/5 — Fix app

*2026-05-29, version 2026.4*

No support for smb stream from nas

### 1/5 — Bug

*2026-03-19, version 2025.10*

Now PIP isn’t working. The video in the window turns black a second after entering PIP mode and the audio keeps playing.

### 1/5 — Restore purchases glitch?

*2025-11-09, version 2025.16*

Update:
Okay, now I know what is going on with the ‘restore purchases’ bug, you can’t use this app offline with the advanced features. It constantly checks whether you purchased the ‘advanced’ option. Dropping down to one star until this gets fixed since this has been going on for a while. Love the app, but this is annoying.

I am not sure when this was introduced, the last couple of updates or iOS 26. When offline it doesn’t retain the purchased history so it forces the user to restore the purchase and login to Apple.

Honestly, it might have been there for a while because you are so generous with your free player I only noticed it because I wanted to use the double speed feature and suddenly stopped working. Happens with the phone and tablet. Restored it on the phone. Closed the app and went into airplane mode. Restarted app an it asks for restoring or buying the advanced feature.

### 1/5 — Makes my iPhone incredibly laggy

*2025-07-04, version 2025.8*

Don’t usually review but using Picture in Picture mode this thing make my iPhone 13 Pro unusable and slows the entire device, as soon as I uninstalled it. Zero lag…

### 1/5 — Just Ok

*2025-05-09, version 2025.3*

I’ve been having problems with this sooo much. It buffers like crazy even though my internet/wifi connection is good, also i’m not able to fast foward?? Every time i try to it goes back. This is trash don’t get this app if you see this!

### 1/5 — No saturation, brightness, contrast, hue controls.

*2024-12-18, version 2024.10*

Good but every other competing app has saturation, gamma, brightness, contrast and hue control. I would be so happy if they get added. Specifically the hue and saturation control sliders.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Apple TV

*2026-08-15, version 2026.6*

Are we gonna get Apple TV version ? Please make it

### 5/5 — Exceptional Value

*2026-08-11, version 2026.6*

Great value for the paid version. Can play any format that I can toss at it. Quality is noticeably better than other players, especially for HDR.

### 5/5 — Best local video player on iOS!

*2026-07-27, version 2026.5*

The UI is so intuitive and the app is rock solid. Wouldn’t be without this app now

### 5/5 — AWESOME VIDEO PLAYER

*2026-07-15, version 2026.5*

Thank you SOOOOOOOO MUCH…for adding back the volume boost feature. Unless there was a bug in my installation, I couldn’t get the volume boost feature that I loved so much when I downloaded this app years ago. I was really hoping to have it back. Looks like it was bright back in a previous update, but I never noticed it. Makes such a big difference when in on a noisy train watching a movie with my Bluetooth headphones. 10 STARS!!!

### 5/5 — Couldn’t ask for anything better

*2026-07-02, version 2026.5*

Probably when I bought it years ago the loop option didn’t save. The developer appears to have made it save the “Mode” when you set it to loop since I’ve last used the app. I tested it after they replied to me. They were hard to contact before when I first purchased the app. App has everything I could ask for at this point and runs amazingly! Thanks for letting me know of the new functionality.

### 5/5 — Better alternative to the ‘bigger’ media players on the App Store

*2026-07-01, version 2026.5*

Best minimal and clean media player app that I have tried out of all the big hitters on the App Store. Bought the pro version without a second thought to support the dev.

Only thing it’s missing is maybe toggles for mono audio or downsampling, incremental speed adjustments instead of fixed and maybe showing chapters in the seekbar which could all be addressed in future updates. Also maybe ytdlp support for webstreaming…

Please keep this app minimal and free of unnecessary bloat like the others!

### 5/5 — Excellent

*2026-06-18, version 2026.5*

Are you joking? Only 37MB install which does Picture in Picture from any video in my iOS files app? Great work Stephen (the developer)! Thanks for your work. Excellent app. I’m so grateful.

### 5/5 — must have video player!

*2026-06-15, version 2026.5*

much more stable than VLC media player, looks beautiful and works great!

### 5/5 — Outstanding

*2026-06-06, version 2026.5*

This the file player I’ve been waiting for.
Great library configuration. Excellent file folder views. Unlimited folders. Speeds are carried from current video to subsequent videos. Plus a lot more.

### 5/5 — Great App

*2026-06-04*

While its one of the best apps out there, keeping adjusting subtitles delay behind paywall is bonkers as its supposed to be a basic functionality of a video player
