## What is Overflight?

Overflight gives you a radar-style scope of the whole visible sky. Swipe to bring any other aircraft into focus, or just watch the one overhead. When the sky is quiet, a calm idle state waits for the next arrival.

FREE
• One aircraft always in focus, chosen from what you can actually see (not just a flat radius)
• Airline, flight number, and aircraft type, with altitude, vertical speed, ground speed, track, bearing, and distance
• A live radar scope of the whole visible sky, north-up or heading-up
• Military and special-interest traffic highlighted the moment it enters your sky
• Near, Normal, and Far reach presets to tune how much sky you see
• Full VoiceOver support
• A universal app for iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV

OVERFLIGHT PRO
• Live routes, origin to destination, for every aircraft
• Spoken traffic: each aircraft called out aloud as it comes into focus, hands-free ("Traffic, two o'clock, eight miles, United 35-17, a Boeing 747").
• Notable inbound alerts: a pre-warning and a "look northwest" cue when interesting traffic is approaching
• Indefinite always-on for an unattended ambient display, at its best on Apple TV

Your first aircraft's route and your first notable-inbound alert are free, so you can see what Pro does before deciding. Try Pro free for 7 days, then continue monthly or yearly, or unlock everything once with a lifetime purchase.

Powered by free, community-run ADS-B data. No account, no sign-up. Your location is used only to find the aircraft above you. Not every aircraft broadcasts its position (some military flights fly dark), so the sky you see is the sky that's broadcasting.

Overflight Pro is a monthly or annual auto-renewing subscription, or a one-time lifetime purchase; the price is shown in the app before you buy. A subscription renews automatically unless canceled at least 24 hours before the period ends, and you can manage or cancel it in your App Store account settings.

### 2/5 — Needs work

*2026-08-04*

Tried the free version. Looks interesting, but in checking it against similar apps, the info shown was about 20 minutes old. It only shows airport codes (I guess you have to pay to see the names). I checked out the 4 flights displayed and recognised only two of the 8 codes. One flight had wrong codes - showed it as going from a non-existent airport to Cincinnati when it was actually going from Madrid to Chicago. Maybe the paid version is better. The free app only shows flights that are deemed close enough for you to see.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.1 — 2026-08-14

- If your scope comes up empty, the app will widen its range once automatically to try to find some aircraft
- Improved route identification, especially for long-haul flights
- If the live data feed stalls, the app now detects it and reports SIGNAL LOST instead of showing aircraft frozen in place as live
- Added a logo for Breeze Airways
- Server-side improvements

### 1.0.4 — 2026-08-03

• Improved route accuracy.
• Fixed a bug where the info card could get stuck on a plane had moved out of range.
• Now when you swipe to a new aircraft it stays in focus for its full 90-second turn. Previously It could move on prematurely.
• Minor visual cleanup.

### 1.0.3 — 2026-08-01

PLUGGED IN, OVERFLIGHT STAYS ON
Put your iPhone or iPad on a charger with Overflight open and the screen no longer auto-locks, so you can use Overflight as an always-on desk accessory. Unplug and normal auto-lock returns instantly. While docked, the display drifts imperceptibly around center so nothing parks on the same pixels. (Free tier still pauses after 10 idle minutes.)

ALSO IN THIS UPDATE
• "Overhead" now catches more low, close traffic. The Overhead range setting used to admit only aircraft 45° or more above the horizon and less than 10,000 ft above you. Now it also includes anything within 1.6 nm slant distance.
• Spoken traffic no longer clips the first word on AirPlay and Bluetooth speakers. When connected to wireless speakers, callouts now lead with a brief moment of silence so the connection is fully open before "Traffic..." begins.
• Tap OVERFLIGHT in the top-left corner for a small About box, with a SUPPORT link to the problem-report form.
• Searching "radar" or "planes" on your Home Screen now finds Overflight.
• Returning to the app clears any idle dim immediately instead of waiting for a touch.
• VoiceOver improvements.
• Air Transport International flights now show the carrier's tail-fin globe logo.

### 1.0.2 — 2026-07-24

NEW RANGE PRESET: OVERHEAD
For everyone under a flight path who just wants to know what that loud plane right above is, "Overhead" is the tightest range setting and shows only aircraft more than 45º above the horizon and lower than 10,000 feet above you. Approach and departure traffic, with none of the surrounding sky's clutter. Tap the RANGE chip to cycle to it.

ALSO IN THIS UPDATE
• Changing the range now updates the display immediately. No more lingering card for a plane the new range no longer includes.
• Closing the voice picker now stops the sample callout right away.
• iPad: on the free tier, the display gently dims to half brightness one minute before the idle pause. Any touch wakes it instantly.

### 1.0.1 — 2026-07-21

• Report a problem from inside the app. Open the (?) walkthrough and tap "Something off? Report a problem". The short form opens a pre-addressed support email with a diagnostic summary attached. It includes your rough area, never your exact location.
• Your exact location never leaves the device. The app asks the flight network about your general area, a roughly 6-mile grid square, and works out precise distances, bearings, and elevations on the device. Position requests now also flow through Overflight's own backend, which pools and caches them to lighten the load on the volunteer ADS-B network.
• Spoken traffic pauses your audiobook or podcast during a callout and resumes it after, instead of talking over it. Music still lowers in volume like before.
• On Macs with Apple silicon, the voice picker only lists voices that can actually speak there, and the N UP chip is an indicator rather than a control, since Macs have no compass.
• Approaching notable aircraft draw as a hollow amber ring on the radar until they reach your sky. A filled dot means the plane is there now, and a dashed ring means it just left.
• Better names for brand-new aircraft. A plane too recently registered for the flight databases used to show a raw type code like "SF50". The app carries its own catalog of about 2,850 aircraft types, so you'll see "Cirrus SF-50 Vision" on the card and in spoken traffic.
• NetJets flights show the NetJets name and logo.
• Fixed: reopening the app after a few hours away could briefly show an aircraft that had long since flown off.
• Fixed: the RANGE indicator had drifted to the top center in iPhone landscape. It's back in the top-right corner.
• Faster, more reliable startup.
