But even after using it for such a long time i still wish the knobs itself could be turned at your fingertips instead of having to use the sliders in the side bar. It is just not intuitive and literally all amp sims/fx apps on ios use the touchscreen to adjust the knobs instead of using sliders in a side menu. I was hoping version 2.0 would finally offer this function, but still no go. This is almost the only app on iOS that doesn’t properly utilize touch screen in that way. ### 4/5 — Midi issues with current version *2025-06-20* The current version, 1.5.6 has many issues with midi. Pretty much doesn’t work. There’s also an issue with rig player temporarily locking up if you move your pedals around in your effects chain. Previous versions worked perfect. This app used to be so stable, never had any issues with it until now. It’s probably an incompatibility issue with iOS 18.3. I would hold off updating to this version. Although I believe support is on top of the issues. This is not a knock on the app, just a psa for users. Other than these recent issues, this app is fantastic! Some of the best amp modeling you can get. The desktop version is ridiculously great as well. Just the best all around amp modeling you can get for mobile and desktop. Tech support is great as well. In-app purchases are very affordable too. Thanks Overloud folks! ### 3/5 — Has become unstable and crashing *2025-06-07, version 1.5.6* I have been using Thu for a few years without problems. Mainly the Rig Player and some of it’s modules which sound great. Since updating to ios18.5 thu has become very buggy and crashes constantly. Après avoir pris le temps d’essayer une dizaine de concurrents (au moins, peut être plus , il y en a tellement ) c’est vraiment l’appli la plus qualitative (pour mon usage et goût) , stable , compatible , fournie en presets utiles, et ouverte aux réglages qui permettent un son adapté à l’instrument , au style, aux conditions de jeu 👍 La version d’essai permet de vérifier que l’ergonomie correspond à l’usage, les sons fournis en essai présagent bien de l’achat du pack. 👍 Petit ajout encore deux étoiles de plus : excellent support, bon suivi et bonne assistance j’avais un souci d’activation d’achat qui s’est bien résolu. ### 2/5 — Not Working In Logic Pro *2023-06-25, version 1.4.38* Please take note this rather expensive, fantastic-sounding platform does NOT CURRENTLY WORK in Logic Pro for iPad ### 5/5 — Very impressive. *2023-05-28, version 1.4.38* The user interface of Overloud takes a little getting used to - it’s not quite as intuitive as Bias, but it’s not too bad. The sounds are stellar - particularly the rigs. I think the sounds are better than Bias FX and the distorted tones might be better than Neural Archetypes - though Neural’s clean tones are beautiful. Being able to set up scenes to seamlessly switch through with the midi footswitch is brilliant for live. Note: while you can only turn FX on/off in scenes, you can have multiple copies of the same FX in your chain and switch between them. I often use two or three rigs and several echo/‘verbs in the same patch so I can switch a/b/c/d live with any combo I want. The Xsonic Xtone works well with thu. Probably the only real downside is cost - if you start buying individual FX or packs / rigs, you can blow a hundred bucks pretty quick but considering I can use this live with my amp or as a practice rig via Quantiloop on the iPad - worth it. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Promising App with Poor Results and Support *2025-12-17* I’ve tried several workarounds to get the treble booster and other recent updates but have failed. I may be misunderstanding a requirement, but it seems like I only needed to have made a purchase this year, which I did on my iPad. Overall, I also feel the tones are just not quite worth the hype either. Other people love the app, so I’m probably an outlier. Feeling a bit ripped off. ### 1/5 — Midi issues *2025-06-11, version 1.5.6* Midi no longer works with current version. ### 1/5 — GOP organizer will NOT do swells *2024-09-22, version 1.4.61* Just threw away 10$ on gop organizer - the attack control does NOTHING, meaning that thu’s claim that this effect lets you do swells is flat out untrue This same effect works great in bias fx2 - sadly bias doesn’t work with logic, which is why I turned to thu - BIG disappointment! :-( ### 1/5 — Does not work on the new M4 iPad Pro *2024-07-10* Does not work on the new M4 iPad Pro using Focusrite Scarlett USB audio interface at all. I have other modeling apps including TonStack Pro and Amplitude that work without a single tweak. Overloud TH-U does not sense the input signal and does not send any signals to the output on the Focusrite. The Focusrite has the lights to show the signal path so it is very simple to isolate the problem. ### 1/5 — THEFT *2023-12-24, version 1.4.46* Do not let someone steal you’re device. I want my money back tyrants ### 1/5 — Misleading premium bundle description *2023-04-09, version 1.4.36* I purchased the premium bundle and the description said “this is the most complete pack and includes everything in fx, amp, cab and distortion packs”. But there are standard rock and blues items like American super 66 amp & cab and some pedals that require separate purchases again and are not included in premium - most people buying a premium pack would expect this and you wouldn’t know about it unless you go compare some comparison tables somewhere even if it was linked to - and it’s not. Even items created with some artists are not included in premium. If it wasn’t for this issue, I would have been satisfied with my purchase. ### 1/5 — Sounds bad *2022-09-27, version 1.4.24* Thought I might try this out. I play in a country rock and classic rock covers band but struggle to find a good sound with this app. I also like metal but find it very hard to get a decent high gain distortion sound. Plus it is too expensive to buy any of the amps. Amps should cost no more than $5 Aud. ### 1/5 — How Do You Hide Unlicensed Rigs? Please Fix Looper! *2022-03-29, version 1.4.17* Looper doesn't save, no clue how to hide unlicensed rigs. ### 1/5 — Pretty Lame *2021-11-22* OK…. here’s a few things that make this a rather weak Guitar Fx processor. 1) It’s not overly intuitive to build out your signal chain (or pedalboard). There’s already a few of these on the market (Amplitube, Bias and others); sooOOooo there’s no reason NOT to learn from these on how to make it easy [keyword EZ] to build out your signal path. You’ve got down to the corner of the screen and hit a plus button and stuff…..it’s rather confusing. You also DO NOT see the path routing; aka the patch cables between fx or amps in the signal path, which makes it more confusing. 2) Quality - I was looking for a harmonizer. They have one; but it doesn’t have the EXPECTED features. Again, harmonizers have been out for DECADES….just look at the best ones and provide the same functionality. Their software DOES NOT have a pitch adjustment like +/- cents to give that “thicker” sound. I don’t think their product has a delay for the harmonizer. These are common on all of the better software/rack units. Ideally you should be about to route the harmonized notes to a separate output than the original if you want to put different fx on those notes. 3) Instead of having actual knobs and sliders that work ::: to adjust the fx pedal a side screen comes up with a set of adjustment controls. REALLY? That’s like 1990s software design. Other vendors in the market have knobs that REALLY turn to adjust things, but not THU. Overall….the product seems CHEAP. I wish I HAD NOT wasted my money on it. Une guitare , un iPad 10 , une carte son Focusrite 2i2 4ème génération , un hub usb ,un casque ou un ampli hi-fi…voire une sono … Plus de poids à manipuler , trimbaler, brancher ….simple et efficace , c’est ce que je cherchais . ### 5/5 — Best amp sim *2025-02-23, version 1.5.2* Best sounding amp sim on ios period. ### 5/5 — Terrific FX, Not fully implemented *2024-07-07* The old saying goes, guitar sims are good on guitars, and great on everything else. This is no exception, I think the best deal here is for the FX package that gets you a ton of iOS effects very cheaply. These work in stereo, they work without any guitar stuff interfering, they are absolutely studio grade processors for AUM or your iOS DAW. You also get models you’ve already bought on desktop for $1 fee. The negatives are that the preset handling and MIDI implementation and general UI is full of jank to the point of near unusability. AUM Presets will be lost at random times leaving you with a blank pedalboard…you need to save presets internally to THU always. They have their own MIDI mapping thing where they don’t publish out to the plug-in interface so you have to see what can work there I still haven’t dug into it. When AUM gets into a memory crunch it can bail out the THU plugs before it does others, suggesting they have some bloated cross-platform library or something in use. Finish the product! But it’s hard to complain too hard with this deal and I even bought some of the individual modules like the Blue Sky and the Binson Echorec. And just because they put a pedal UI on a processor doesn’t make it worse than the ones that have a rack UI. They are one of many choices in desktop but there’s nothing quite this extensive on iOS and they should get rid of the jank to earn a certified hit. ### 5/5 — Es el mejor que he probado *2024-05-01* Es el mejor emulador de amplificadores y efectos para Guitarra que he probado sin duda alguno. Hier stimmt einfach das Gesamtpaket: - Sound! - Spielgefühl - Preispolitik (Ich nutze TH-U auch auf Windows, wenn man für dieses System etwas gekauft hat, gibt es das für das iPad sehr günstig, leider nicht selbstverständlich, es gibt oft gute Angebote….) - Sehr viele Rigs, nicht nur Metal Sounds Für verbesserungswürdig halte ich das Preset Management, die MIDI Implementierung und teilweise das GUI. Ich bin jetzt schweren Herzens auf toneX umgestiegen da ich neben Gitarre auch Bass spiele. Und da ist die Auswahl bei THU doch extrem erbärmlich. Es gibt tatsächlich nur ein Bass Rig!
