With OVpay, you can use your contactless card or phone to check in and out of Dutch public transport. This is the accompanying app—perfect for both seasoned travellers and first-timers. Meet the OVpay app: • Confirm check-ins and check-outs Not sure if you’ve checked in or out? Find out under ‘Journeys’. You can also opt to get a notification every time you check in or out. • Adjust missed check-ins or check-outs Forgotten to check in or out? No problem! You can adjust missed check-ins and check-outs in the app. Up to 60 days after your journey. • All journeys and travel costs in a one overview View all your journeys and travel costs from the past 18 months under ‘Journeys’. • Create travel expense overviews Send travel expense overviews to your employer straight from the app. Or have it email you a PDF. All you need to do is select the month and trips—the app will take care of the rest! • Add multiple cards You can now add up to 10 cards to the app. Give them a name and colour so you can easily keep them apart. Perfect if you use different cards for travel. • Add your age-based discount If you qualify for a 34% age-based discount, you can add it to your card. Não recomendo! ### 1/5 — App *2026-06-25, version 1.655.0* Poo ### 1/5 — Errors and problems *2026-06-18* I am a Dutch citizen living abroad. I tried to set up the app, eventually succeeded. Not after many frustrating errors like “something went wrong on our end” and endless re-sending of verification codes You need a Dutch address to have the “OV pas” sent to. Well, that’s a problem for me. But you can use a credit card as pass. This is as frustrating as the luggage rules of an airline. In trying to set up the credit card a browser window was opened outside the app, and I was greeted by a 403 Forbidden browser error. Likely the gateway only accepts IP traffic from within the region. Some questions and remarks: - why not allow the pass to be sent abroad? Charge a shipping fee if you have to. - but really: why not have a virtual transit pass on the phone? Phones have been capable of NFC for years - check your IP gating, your security measures are failing users from abroad I have also signed up for a Belgian transit pass. A world of difference, super easy and none of the headaches. ### 1/5 — Broken for me *2026-06-14, version 1.655.0* Falls at the first step. I get a 403 forbidden message when I try to add a card - that might actually allow me to use the app. ### 1/5 — Absolutely awful *2026-06-01, version 1.640.0* No-one can ever have tested this garbage before vomiting it out to the public. Avoid this and just tap your credit card ### 1/5 — Useless *2026-05-24, version 1.640.0* Useless app, can’t add debit card. ### 2/5 — Poor instructions *2026-04-18* Step 1 - download app and set up an account. Step 2 - use a debit, credit or mobile payment to pay for any kind of public transit ride (train, tram, bus, etc). To do this, scan your payment method at an entry gate and at the completion of your ride, exit gate. Step 3 - Access your payment method account to look up the charge for the ride you just took. Once that charge has posted on your account you can now register that payment method on the OVpay app. Now you have an overview of your trips in the app. ### 1/5 — Won’t let me add my card *2026-03-28* The app kept glitching and crashing for me. When I finally was able to make an account it would not let me add my debit or credit card and had no other options to pay ### 1/5 — Just won’t work *2026-03-04, version 1.595.0* Can’t add a card to my account. It just says ‘forbidden’ from the app and the desk top. Cant find any details to complain or get help, the chatbot makes you want to scream. ### 1/5 — Terrible, do not use *2025-12-22* Signing in is only successful after 20 tries if you are lucky. Signing out takes even more patience. And do not even try to delete your account, it will not let you do it.
