OVSICORI-UNA Alerta Terremotos, Costa Rica, es una app móvil que recibe las notificaciones desde el Sistema de Alerta Temprana de Terremotos (SATT) de OVSICORI y evalúasi pueden ser sentidos en la ubicación de usuario o Puntos de Interés y brindar, en el mejor de los casos, Alerta Temprana para que el usuario tenga tiempo para realizar la acción de Protegerse. Efectivo solo a distancias entre unos 50 a 150 km. Más cerca no hay tiempo para alertar y más lejos aunque el sismo pueda ser sentido no causará daños tan importantes como para que se declare una alerta. Es una aplicación gratuita y un servicio que brinda la Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica como complemento al trabajo de diseminación de información que realiza OVSICORI. Es un sistema completamente automatizado que enlaza múltiples instrumentos y algoritmos y por lo tanto es susceptible a fallas técnicas. La app brinda tres tipos de alertas: Roja, Naranja y Verde. La Alerta Roja es aquella que significa que el sismo puede ser sentido con intensidad en la Escala de Mercalli Modificada (IMM) mayor o igual a V y que el usuario tiene algunos segundos para tomar la acción de PROTEGERSE. Se notifica con comando de VOZ y vibración. La Alerta Naranja es aquella que significa que el sismo puede ser sentido con intensidad mayor o igual a III pero menor a V. Se notifica con SONIDO y vibración. La Alerta Verde es aquella que significa que el sismo puede ser sentido con intensidad menor a III. Se notifica de manera silenciosa.
