## What is Owl?

Owl gives every website a dark theme — not a crude gray filter, but a real one, built on the fly from each page's own colors.

HOW IT WORKS
Owl reads a page's stylesheets and rewrites the colors it finds, one at a time. Backgrounds go dark, text goes light, and brand colors, logos and photographs stay exactly as their designers intended. Pages are darkened before they paint, so there is none of the white flash that makes reading at night painful.

Photos are left alone. Icons are not. Owl examines the actual pixels of every image: a photograph keeps its colors, while a black icon on a transparent background is inverted so it does not disappear into the dark. Sites that already ship a good dark theme are recognized and left untouched.

MAKE IT YOURS
• Brightness, contrast, sepia and grayscale sliders
• Four presets — Default, Warm, High Contrast and Muted
• Choose your own background and text colors
• Faux bold, so thin type keeps its weight on a dark background
• Override the page font
• Dark form controls and scrollbars

ON YOUR TERMS
• Darken or restore the site you are reading, straight from the toolbar
• Darken every site by default, or only the ones you pick
• Keep lists of sites to skip, or sites to darken
• Follow your system appearance, run on a schedule you set, or simply leave it on
• Toggle the current site with a keyboard shortcut on Mac
• If a page resists the color rewrite, switch it to a plain dark stylesheet instead

PRIVATE BY DESIGN
No account, no sign-in, no servers. Every color decision is made on your device, and the site compatibility data ships inside the app. Owl sends nothing anywhere — there is nothing to track, because nothing is collected.

One purchase covers iPhone, iPad and Mac. No subscriptions, no in-app purchases, no ads.

Owl is a Safari extension for iPhone, iPad and Mac. Once installed, turn it on in Settings ▸ Apps ▸ Safari ▸ Extensions on iPhone and iPad, or Safari ▸ Settings ▸ Extensions on the Mac. The app walks you through it, and explains why choosing "Allow on Every Website" is what keeps Owl working as you browse.
