Easy setup! *2019-12-27, version 1.6.23* This app automatically sensed my 6 Foscam ip cameras (installed 3 or so years ago) and only needed my camera login name and password to get set up. No need to enter the IP address or router port numbers! Easily accessed pan and tilt controls and simple button to snap pictures. But Where is the button to turn off the infrared??? ### 3/5 — Ext access *2019-11-13, version 1.6.23* The app will not allow access away from my home network. I have tried to set up external access through no ip I can get it to work on my other apps but with OWLR in the setup it doesn’t ask for a user name and password? Only the dons website. Only thing it lacks is the ability to control the zoom on my Foscam R2. Not sure if the function is there for any other PTZ capable camera models, but it’s not for the R2. Now I can still use all of my older model cameras. ### 4/5 — Owlet review *2018-09-04, version 1.6.5* I got a new Foscam PTZ camera for external security, after many attempts I was unable to load the system on my Mac so I decided to try the Owlet App and it works great right offer downloading to my apple gadgets. Would I recommend this app you bet I would. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Constant Requests to Share Location *2021-06-24, version 1.6.24* Asking once would be acceptable but this app asks to share your location every time you use the app. Users who know how to configure IP cameras have no need for this feature. Would recommend using a different app to access IP cameras. ### 1/5 — Unresponsive *2021-03-07, version 1.6.23* I downloaded this app because of the somewhat good reviews so that I can use with an indoor security camera. There are only a select few cameras this app is compatible with. It states in the app that if you need a particular camera brand added all you have to do is email them. I sent multiple emails in hopes of at least getting a response if the camera was compatible or not. Crickets!!! No response to any of the emails. The app does have tutorials, but they are confusing. It needs to a lot of work. I would not recommend this app if you are not familiar with the terminology related to security camera systems. **Developer response:** Hi there - sorry to hear that we could not respond to your query. Please also share the camera model and make so we can help to solve your issue. ### 1/5 — None of their Apps work *2020-09-21, version 1.6.23* I’ve tried every version of their OWLR Apps and none of them work with my $1,000 Axis cameras - not even their Axis specific version of the App. All I ever get is a pop up saying “ummmm .... there’s a problem with your credentials.” Um - No there isn’t. It’s the same credentials I’m using for half a dozen other IP Camera Apps that all connect just fine. I’ve reached out to their support numerous times over the years for help .... crickets. The AppleStore pictures look nice tho so I guess they get maybe a star for that part. **Developer response:** Hi there - we regret for the inconvenience. Thanks ### 1/5 — Avoid *2020-01-30, version 1.6.23* Can run only if allow location access. Bad ideea since It is needed only to discover cameras. I know my URLs so it should not be needed. Cannot log in into my Axis cameras. Does not support encrypted passwords. Really? Otherwise it has a nice look. May be a good app but as long as I cannot log in to my cameras and also requires location access, this app is a no no. ### 1/5 — Bad costumer support. *2020-01-04, version 1.6.23* Never buy a camera from this company again. They stop phone support and the only way you can receive support is by chatting. There company is in China and it takes weeks to get help. Phone support takes 5 min. This company would rather save there money. ### 1/5 — No HTTPS Support *2019-10-16, version 1.6.22* Not sure what date and age OWLR is in. However especially in 2019 everything is pretty much HTTPS, however OWLR still doesn’t support it. Yet you want to charge people an arm and a leg in your subscription. I find that laughable. Update in response to dev response: If I remember correctly and people can Google this, you said the same things 3 years ago. I didn’t know an item on priority list takes 3 years to developer and it’s still not available. I know you are a small dev, but 3 years for the most basic function where all Other Dev has the first day is laughable. Let’s see how many years it will take before you develop https. Don’t waste money *2018-02-07, version 1.6.0* This app doesn’t work as of last year. I emailed the dev multiple times and they just never followed up after asking some basic questions. Same issue with my friends camera so I know it’s not an isolated issue. I cancelled the subscription and will move on to another company ### 1/5 — Paying for nothing *2018-01-17, version 1.5.5* I’ve had trouble with the app recognizing my subscription for about 2 months with no help from the developer. I get a canned response that they are looking into it but I never hear back. They have taken my money for two months for an app that won’t work correctly. It’s also become slow to communicate with the cameras and unresponsive at times. Please feel free to get in touch with us at support@owlr.com if you need any further help. ### 1/5 — World is moving, OWLR app does not... *2017-12-20, version 1.5.5* Using it for 6 months, like GIF to Inbox but slowness is unbearable; all cameras show pretty quickly in the preview windows, but than its 10 seconds or NEVER, to get the stream from each one of them individually. Those behind the WiFi extender are mostly likely to fail although they also show quickly in the preview. Motion detection schedule - still nothing... a static feature with a few clicks that would take a day to program. Update: motion detection doesn’t work anymore. No help from developers. Update2: developer sent a response after I gave them a bad review. Otherwise, they were ignoring my emails when sent directly. Guess they want others to see that they are proactive. Tried it out and am going to uninstall it. Touching the video image performs a tilt/pan control. You can’t disable that and is very annoying / nuisance as this accidentally happens frequently. No camera specific controls for preset positions, night vision on/off etc. This is as basic as it gets. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Best for Insteon cameras. *2022-07-23, version 1.6.25* When Smarthome closed I was instantly left with many unusable cameras. I tried several solutions requiring typing long url strings with little success. Owlr discovered all my different cameras and configured them automatically. Amazing! Love the ease and the interface. I was using the other app by Foscam itself and they are not able to detect the camera in my network. Where this app just like that it scan and list my both cameras in a minute and allow to configure very easily. The camera is at our place at the lake and this app works great for what I’m using it for! I’m 50 miles away from the camera and it’s on a slow internet service ( seasonal speed for winter months).
