### 2/5 — Uploading photos problem

*2019-12-21, version 3.8.2*

No way to select all photos to upload. I have to select one at a time manually.

### 3/5 — No Search Functionality

*2018-12-03, version 3.8.0*

After looking to get off google drive, I have transitioned all my file storage to OwnCloud. After being satisfied with the web interface, I decided to fork over the money for the app, assuming the stock features would be in the app as well.

I was wrong

Global, or even folder level search is missing. Upon finding the TestFlight version, I am finding the same

It is extremely disappointing to see such a basic feature missing from this software, especially since it exists on the desktop interface. I am forced to use the mobile web interface, which is awfully claustrophobic to use.

**Developer response:** Hello, thank you for your rating. We take your opinion very seriously. We have recently launched a search API on the server to also make a search on the server through the app. This search and many more features come in the new app. A folder search is already possible there. You said you already use the Alpha version of the Testflight program?

### 3/5 — I mean it's cool but really buggy

*2017-09-16, version 3.6.2*

App crashes for no reason multiple times within 5 min, no clear UI for what is happening to the user - guys please update your app and get a good PO in there that can map out a good user experience together with a design team: you could be the sole answer for people wanting their own cloud. It's just too techy to use for the main market, as in, my girlfriend or mom would never want to use this over google drive for example. Please update!!

### 4/5 — Same problem sync photos and 2 factor problems

*2017-09-04, version 3.6.2*

Purchased this app to sync photos from my iPhone to my ownCloud but they just don't sync. Also enabled the Duo two-factor application and now the app can't even log in to the server. Edit: Added a 4th star, the developer cleared up that it would require using an application password with two-factor and it worked perfect. I'll continue to mess with the photo sync, but nothing so far. I'd dev is interested in any testing, let me know. -Jeff

### 2/5 — So close

*2016-07-15, version 3.4.9*

Was going to use this as my main cloud solution but the app has one fatal flaw. You must enable location services in order for auto upload to work. Other apps (Google photos, one drive, etc) allow this feature without using location services (just you have to open the app since obviously without the service the app doesn't know when you have moved). The lack of this is odd, because now I have to manually upload which is a bummer. If this feature was added I would definitely use this and change my review to a much more positive one.

### 4/5 — Encouraging App

*2016-05-09, version 3.4.9*

Set up OwnCloud locally for my family and am liking it so far. The feature set is pretty basic and documentation is quite basic but once things are up and running everything works smoothly.

If they continue to refine the app and server end it will continue to move into my family iCloud replacement territory.
I would ask for improvement consideration around the family sharing experience and photo library management.

### 3/5 — Works, but missing key features

*2016-03-17, version 3.4.8*

I've been looking for a solid personal cloud server I could run on my home server, and so far I've tried Tonido and ownCloud. ownCloud's app is missing some key features, namely disabling automatic photo uploads on cellular data, and having the option to browse your photos with a larger thumbnail. The existing thumbnail is so tiny I can't see what the picture is.

### 2/5 — Good start but needs some work

*2015-11-07, version 3.4.5*

Auto upload is the feature I want the most. It works sometimes but not consistently. I have to keep killing the app and restarting to to kick off the upload. If auto upload doesn't work it is impossible to see what files you have already uploaded because the display is truncated. So then selecting all will work because it will throw errors when there is a conflict, but the errors are notifications that show up on the badge count and you have to swipe each one individually to dismiss.

The photo browsing is also nowhere near what Dropbox and carousel offer. It works, but is really slow and doesn't seem to prefetch anything so you have to wait for each image to download. It would be nice to at least have a thumbnail generated to get a rough idea before clicking through to load it.

Absolute basic functionality works and is effective, it just needs quite a bit of refinement.

### 3/5 — Great Potential

*2015-07-15, version 3.4.1*

The app itself is ok. It keeps signing me off after some time. It's kinda bothersome as I really want it for the Instant Upload feature so I don't have to manually upload pictures. The app has a great deal of potential to finally get me off Dropbox, but the issues still stand. It will also crash when viewing pictures back to back after a few.

### 2/5 — Not so obvious errors

*2015-06-09, version 3.4.1*

I just installed a fresh server release on Ubuntu and threw it behind my nginx reverse proxy. It is possible to make it work, but nginx and possibly PHP need to have max upload sizes tweaked. Nginx does for sure. Second is that you MUST have the application available under the /owncloud URI path. If either of these are wrong, this app will not tell you what to do. You have to see the 413 HTTP status codes in your log. You have to try the app out in a browser in debug mode to see that hard coded dependencies cannot be found.
Finally, I knocked this app way down because I primarily want to upload and explore my pictures, but uploading in iOS doesn't provide meaningful names and it won't show you the Pictures app for slideshow mode; an obvious use case.
Was glad to pay $1 to support the cause though. Keep chugging folks. This tool is close to being a match for more popular cloud file system boxes.

### 2/5 — What happened?

*2015-04-24, version 3.4.1*

This app used to work just fine for me, but between then and the last few updates it has been less than useful.

Start with the app refusing to persist my login details. Whenever the app is closed (whether manually or though eventually being terminated), I have to enter all my info again.

Second, and I really don’t know why this is, but I have a problem on my iPad that I do not on my iPhone where I can see the directory list when I first establish a connection, but any subsequent taps on any folders just revert back to the main list.

Other than that, this app does work as I expect it to for the most part. Unfortunately, these two items have caused it become almost unusable. Especially when trying to “Share” a file with the own cloud app as the login details aren’t remembered, it’s essentially impossible to add a file to my instance).

Running version 8.0.2 on the server for what it’s worth.

Side note: I am incredibly appreciative of the own cloud team and the work they put forth. Aside from this mobile app, my experiences have been absolutely tremendous on the desktop. Simply one of the best open source projects out there!

### 2/5 — Buggy at Best

*2015-03-30, version 3.4.0*

When the app works, it works great. Unfortunately it has two issues that keep it mostly useless:

1) it constantly asks for my credentials as though it is the first run of the app. It doesn't seem to "forget " my account, it just pretends to need setup. I can see the multiple accounts created. With multiple accounts of the same location it shows multiple instances of the same files.
2) the app stops uploading InstantUpload data randomly. It just seems to do it whenever it wants. Most of the time I realize the data hasn't synchronized and, upon opening the app, it begins synchronizing. Background data is allowed.

I want this app to replace Dropbox. We aren't there yet.

### 3/5 — Almost Works

*2015-03-22, version 3.4.0*

This app works great on my iPad, but it just crashes on my phone. I had previously written a review about this issue, which can be seen below.

[Old review]
Crashes when any URL is entered, unless you force it to use HTTP, in which case it "logs in" and lists no files. It also doesn't save login information (which wouldn't help anyway since it doesn't list any files).

### 1/5 — Can’t upload files from the files app

*2019-06-12, version 3.8.1*

Unable to open any files, shows 0 bytes when attempting to upload.

**Developer response:** Hello. We just released a complete rewrite of the app. It works a lot better than the old app and is for free! You can get it here: https://apps.apple.com/app/id1359583808

### 1/5 — Total garbage

*2019-05-09, version 3.8.1*

I can connect to my owncloud from safari on ios but this app keeps telling me “not found” when i use the app. Total garbage. I am asking for a refund. Stay away and save a $1.

**Developer response:** Hello. We just released a complete rewrite of the app. It works a lot better than the old app and is for free! You can get it here: https://apps.apple.com/app/id1359583808

### 1/5 — Nextcloud app better than ownCloud app

*2018-11-11, version 3.8.0*

There is no auto upload functionality

**Developer response:** What's your expectation here? We have instant upload for photos and videos. You can activate it via the settings. We don't think your rating is justified. ^cs

### 1/5 — Login is broken

*2018-11-08, version 3.8.0*

Keeps saying user/password incorrect

**Developer response:** Hello Joe. Please try to delete the app using Settings -> iPhone Storage -> ownCloud -> Delete App. Reinstall it from the AppStore. Maybe you run into a database error during the update. ^cs

### 1/5 — This mobile app is crippling OC’s potential

*2018-11-01, version 3.8.0*

Seriously. I’m looking for a new solution for my cloud storage backend, actively seeking alternatives. I have used OwnCloud and this app for a long time now and the app has barely evolved at all... I need a basic editor, not much but slightly better than the current bare-bones dialog box you can type in now. That’s just pathetic. Calling that an editor is a stretch anyways, because I can’t even see how to take existing files and edit them, only new text files. What a joke. I love OC on my server and desktop machines, but this iOS app is a joke, and it’s sad really because they should realize these days that mobile is more important and deserving of a real app if they want anyone to take OC seriously! This ship is going down unless they hire some real iOS programmers ASAP!

**Developer response:** Hello. You will be pleased to hear that we are working on a complete rewrite of the app. Your feedback will be respected in our effort. You can already try out the beta:
testflight.apple.com/join/Oktj0iKv
(open link on iOS device)

Please do not use this with critical data, it's not tested yet.

### 1/5 — Method not allowed

*2018-10-27, version 3.8.0*

As of yet I have been unable to access owncloud through this app. I receive a PROPFIND method not allowed. Have not found any workarounds yet

**Developer response:** Hello Ajsbehaj, have you tried to delete and reinstall the app. We never seen this error before. Please try and come back to us. We want to help you here. ^cs

### 1/5 — Not fully baked

*2018-06-12, version 3.7.5*

1. I can’t upload anything, but can browse just fine. The UI is horrible. You have to switch over to the “Uploads” tab to see file(s) uploading. It just says “Waiting for server connection.” I’ve yet to see anything uploaded, however I can use my WebDAV client and it uploads content just fine.

2. I like that the app supports the iOS Share Sheet, however it isn’t fully baked either. After you use iOS’ share sheet, it tells you that you have to go open the app to actually upload it. I get that, because I know you have to select a folder. But then it does the same thing as #1 and just sits there. It never uploads.

Hopefully this recommended app for ownCloud can be improved. As it stands, I have to upload via another means (such as an iOS WebDAV client) and then return to this app to get a public share link. It’s a half baked and frustrating multi-step process. Until it’s head is on straight, they shouldn’t be charging any money for it. I feel a bit robbed...

**Developer response:** "I like that the app supports the iOS Share Sheet, however it isn’t fully baked either." - We put it in the oven again. Now it is completely baked. Try it out. ^cs

### 1/5 — A very crappy app for a nice service

*2016-07-20, version 3.4.9*

I came across with this owncloud service using my Qnap, I thing is neat, I even stopped using OneDrive and Google Photos BUT, this app is a total piece of junk. Is unstable, huge lack of features (are you kidding me, there is not even "Select All" function!!!) at the point that I'm considering go back to OneDrive. I'm not a business, I was just looking for cloud solution that allows all of our Smartphones make pictures backup/sync to my home NAS but in the background without any user interaction, well, the app does that, but only does that. I'm not even going to mention how slow it performs, my whole network is running gigabit and the wireless radio at the maximum and this thing synchronizes probably 1 picture every 30 seconds, is ridiculous, and I setup the service using MySQL, not the crappy SQL lite they have from default. Bottom line, I will love to see a real app for this service, I will pay even more than a buck if really works and do the job right.

### 1/5 — App connects but only sporadically uploads

*2015-07-09, version 3.4.1*

There are very problematic issues with this app. The app will open, connect to my server, and allow me to view files from my server but that is about all that it will do so far. Recent updates allow for automatic uploading of photos and movies, but it works only sporadically. The app allows for forced uploading of selected photos but will not, no matter what I've tried, show more and a few of the most recently captured photos or videos. I have 100 pics on my phone and ownloud will only see three right now. This app would be fantastic if it would just work. So far I cannot drop my sugarsync account because I cannot rely on owncloud to do its job correctly or at all.

### 1/5 — It

*2015-07-06, version 3.4.1*

Sorry guys who developed this app but it is useless! It needs a lot more work.
I have about10gb of files on my server and this app can't even keep track of last edited files. It usually replaces document with sync error or keeps saying "new version" available but never opens the document or music file.
I think that if you releasing something in to production you should do extending testing before it goes public. I think your main process of how you sync files are broken. Keep working and you may want to check out how Google drive handles that and get some ideas. Also, desktop client has problems as well.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Wau! Super fast compared to Nextcloud

*2018-06-16, version 3.7.5*

Syncing via NextCloud app is very glitchy and slow. I installed OwnCloud and it is way more fast. I wished OwnCloud server was a bit better supported, I would switch from NextCloud. As NextCloud server is kind of slow too. But it has all I need now with all its plugins and community support.

### 5/5 — Excellent app, works with no problems.

*2016-11-07, version 3.5.1*

ownCloud is great and it works very well. It works as you would expect it to and I haven't run into a hitch yet. It even has the added benefit of being an active photo cloud storage. If you enable InstantPhotos in the app, whenever you take a photo on your device it will automatically upload it to your ownCloud server! That was an unexpected and very much appreciated feature.

### 5/5 — Correcting my previous review..

*2016-09-28, version 3.5.0*

I am giving this app 5 stars as it works perfectly. The issues I had connecting were due to an improperly configured install. I correct the config issues and all is working properly now. 👍.

### 5/5 — App is Perfect

*2016-03-12, version 3.4.8*

Once you download something from the app. It stays on your phone memory and then you have the option to delete it from the phone or from both the phone and server. The app is fast and very responsive when navigating.

### 5/5 — No problems, good to have

*2015-08-02, version 3.4.4*

I could just use transmit or another WebDAV client, but this is way more convenient. Worth it!

Works great for me and all of my Owncloud users. I suppose most people haven't setup their server correctly or updated it in ages? Perhaps they could help out by submitting a bug report on the GitHub issue queue?

### 5/5 — Works great!

*2015-06-23, version 3.4.1*

I'm very surprised to see such negative reviews. I've really enjoyed using this app and I haven't had a single problem. There are some more features and improvements I'd like to see, but this app has been totally stable and integrates with my ownCloud server without issue. I hope that the developers aren't put off by the negative reviews and can see that there are some very happy users out there. This has been a perfectly fine app, and it can still be improved, but it's working great for me

### 5/5 — Works great thank you

*2014-01-04, version 3.0.1*

While I'd like access to other items such as contacts and calendar within this app, as others have mentioned, it's not a bother. I have setup carddav and caldav on my phone. Works like a charm. The app works as advertised and am really happy with this app and the ownCloud platform. Great work guys.

### 5/5 — Exactly what I needed.

*2013-01-19, version 2.08.1*

The entire ownCloud solution has blown me away. I had spent some time working on my own solution for keeping my *nix environments in sync when I stumbled upon ownCloud by proxy of csync2. The full ownCloud solution couldn't have been packaged any better. I play around with a lot of open source solutions and yours is the first I have come across that offers the installation from a yum repository(or at least informs you.) Very slick and convenient. Great job!

### 5/5 — 🌟Awesome Cloud☁ Solution 🌟

*2012-12-19, version 2.08*

This app works exactly as intended! I have no problem whatsoever syncing with my on cloud server! Files sync seamlessly. I have a iPhone 5 on OS 6.0.2 and iPad running on OS 6.0.1 Great job OwnCloud!

⚡Suggestion⚡ This app needs the ability to stream music. I recommend you update app with a media player.

### 4/5 — Great Product

*2019-05-24, version 3.8.1*

Love your product and have enjoyed sharing files. Are you able to add a search feature when you create a public link or have an entire ownCloud as public?

**Developer response:** Hello. We just released a complete rewrite of the app. It works a lot better than the old app and is for free! You can get it here: https://apps.apple.com/app/id1359583808
