## What is OwnDay?

OwnDay is a private, on-device diary of your day. It quietly notices where you go and what you do, then turns that into a clear timeline and useful insights about your time—all while keeping your archive on your iPhone.

WHERE YOU’VE BEEN
OwnDay uses Apple’s location services to recognise visits to places you go. Save a place or correct it once—its name, role, or the activity you were doing there—and OwnDay remembers it for next time.

WHAT YOU’VE BEEN DOING
Connect Apple Health and Motion & Fitness to bring in sleep, Apple Watch workouts, walking, running, cycling, and other activity signals. OwnDay blends this with your visits into a single timeline, so a day at the gym, an evening walk, and a night’s sleep can appear alongside where you were.

YOUR DAY, AT A GLANCE
Timeline shows your day as a sequence of visits, journeys, and activities. Each entry can be edited. Insights breaks down your time by activity across a day, week, month, or year, helping you notice patterns over time.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN
Your visits, places, notes, timeline, Health data, and activity records stay in local storage on your device, protected by iOS data protection. OwnDay has no account, advertising, analytics, or cloud sync, and does not send your archive or Health data to a developer-operated server.
When OwnDay needs to identify a nearby place, it may use Apple Maps. That lookup is handled under Apple’s own privacy terms. You can back up and restore your archive on your own terms.

BUILT FOR REAL DAYS
Location tracking is designed to be low-power. OwnDay watches for visits and significant location changes rather than continuously tracking GPS, helping it work in the background without unnecessary battery use.

OwnDay is for anyone who wants a quiet, private record of their own life—without handing their personal archive to a server.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.9.1 — 2026-09-28

What's New

Fixes

Fixed a crash when a backup restore or archive erase happened while Timeline was open
Fixed Saved Place editing freezing on open
Fixed a duplicate Saved Place issue affecting large venues with more than one entrance — a "Possible duplicates" review now catches these
More reliable current-location detection after a period of inactivity

Saved Places

Delete now always asks for confirmation, with clear feedback if it fails
Added a general "Add Place" button
The editor shows recognition radius, nearby places, and historical impact live as you adjust the pin or radius

Location editing

Tapping a visit's Place now opens location search directly
Name an exact map pin right on the map screen
The activity picker now hints the suspected activity instead of showing blank

Also included: work stops now group into one route card, unlogged time is easier to find and review, clearer messaging when Apple Health data is missing or delayed, and various accessibility and copy improvements.

### 1.9.0 — 2026-09-27

What’s New
- People: Tag visits with who you were with, open a person’s tagged visits, and search your archive by their name. Removing a person or tag keeps the visit and its other details.
- Saved Places: Preview a pin and its recognition area, review nearby places, then choose to update an existing place or save a separate venue. Choose whether place changes also apply to past visits.
- Apple Health and sleep: See when OwnDay last checked, whether a check is still running or failed, and retry when needed. Empty results no longer imply there was no sleep; the app explains Watch sync delays and limited history.
- More reliable Timeline: Fewer duplicate or incorrectly split visits. Uncertain place matches and unusually long stays are easier to review.
- A more comfortable experience: Improved VoiceOver and large-text support, Light and Dark appearance options, clearer visit entry and Settings, and clearer backup and restore guidance.

### 1.7.0 — 2026-09-22

What's New in 1.7.0

Notes & People
Add notes to any visit, and tag the people you were with. Saved Places now support default people, so tagging is one tap for the spots you visit regularly.

Smarter place confirmation
Confirm a private place in a single tap, and stop getting asked to save a place you've already saved.

More accurate visit detection
Fixed cases where a real stay could get dropped, where a visit could be misnamed after a nearby (but wrong) Maps location, and where a genuine arrival could be missed due to noisy speed readings.

Insights
Year Insights now loads faster, and no longer flickers/reloads a period you're already viewing.

Fixes & polish

Fixed the Save-This-Place prompt showing the wrong label instead of a count
Travelling card now keeps its name in sync after a rename
Gap-fill's "Choose on map" pin now anchors to the correct spot
Improved diagnostics and recovery when on-device storage fails to open

### 1.6.1 — 2026-09-17

What's New in 1.6.1

Redesigned the Add Visit screen for a cleaner, easier flow

Fixed an issue where arrivals could be missed or delayed, so your timeline and current location stay accurate

Improved place naming accuracy — no more mismatched nearby businesses or generic labels when a real address is available

Fixed the map picker in gap-fill so it starts centered on the right spot

General stability and compatibility improvements

### 1.6.0 — 2026-09-15

"What's New" for 1.6:

Redesigned Add Visit — a clearer, card-based way to log a visit, with distinct Location and Activity choices and a connected Start/End time card
Insights, reorganized — Day, Week, Month, and Year views now lead with what matters most, with combined trend charts, a clearer rhythm view, and a single Data health & quality section instead of scattered summaries

Faster Insights loading, especially on data-heavy periods

Calendar as supporting evidence (optional) — turn on Calendar access in Settings to help corroborate visits and fill timeline gaps; off by default, read-only, never a source of truth on its own

More accurate automatic place matching — fixed an issue where being far from a saved place could occasionally be mislabeled as being there

Smarter commute grouping — a stop along the way of up to 30 minutes now still groups into one commute card

Clearer review flow — reviewing a suggested place now shows one consistent "Confirm" action instead of two overlapping controls

Small fixes to Home/Work quick-set actions, gap classification prompts, and card layout consistency across Insights
