## What is OwnFi?

OwnFi is a free budgeting app that imports your bank statements instead of logging into your bank. Drop in the PDF or CSV your bank already sends you and see what you can spend today, which bills are coming, and where the money went. Nothing leaves your phone: no server, no cloud processing, no analytics on your spending, no third-party data sharing. No subscription, no trial, no account to create.

IMPORT FROM ANYWHERE • PDF Statement Analyzer — parse bank and credit card statements locally, with automatic detection of major bank formats • CSV Import — auto-detects formats, and the universal parser learns any unknown CSV layout after you confirm it once • Receipt Scanner — capture receipts with on-device OCR and line-item parsing • Screenshot Import — extract transactions from banking app screenshots, including Indian passbook/UPI and Canadian layouts, with an optional review-free auto-add setting • Share to OwnFi — send PDFs, screenshots, and CSVs from any app straight into OwnFi via the share sheet • Quick Add gesture — double-tap the back of your phone to log an expense in two fields, via Back Tap and Shortcuts

UNDERSTAND YOUR MONEY • Safe to Spend — open the app to how much you can spend per day for the rest of the month, with upcoming bills already reserved • Daily Money Pulse — today's and this month's spending against your budgets at a glance • Home dashboard — net worth, portfolio, upcoming bills, and savings goals on one screen • Apple Watch — Safe-to-Spend, your next bill, and voice quick-add on your wrist • Activity — every transaction from every source in one searchable timeline with automatic categorization • Insights — monthly trends, top merchants, category patterns, and anomaly detection • What-If Simulator — preview how spending changes affect your savings

PLAN AHEAD • Your cash plan — the next 30 days of bills and spending kept aside, the rest shared across the priorities you set. Plus goal pacing, a subscription review, what-ifs and pre-investing facts in the Advisor • Time Machine — project your balance 3 months to 2 years ahead from your income, bills, and spending, then stack "what if" changes on top and compare • Budget Planner — monthly category limits with rollover, AI-suggested amounts, and one-tap shortcuts to Time Machine, What-If, Goals, and Debts • Savings Goals, Bills & Subscriptions on one screen, and Debt Tracker with amortization schedules • Tax-year export — a CSV of one tax year's transactions, using your jurisdiction's dates (UK, India, and calendar-year countries) or a plain calendar year, with each row's currency

PRIVATE AI ADVISOR • Chat with an AI that understands your finances — Apple Intelligence on iPhones that have it, with nothing to download, or a language model you install; every figure is computed by OwnFi's own code first • Conversational entry: say "I spent $15 at Starbucks today" and it's saved instantly • Built-in Canadian tax and savings calculators (CPP, EI, RRSP, FHSA, mortgage) • Financial Memories — the advisor remembers your priorities across conversations

YOUR DATA, PROTECTED • 100% on-device storage, encrypted at rest with a key held only in your iPhone's keychain — there is no OwnFi server • Face ID / Touch ID app lock • AES-256 encrypted backups you control • Family Sync — send encrypted finance packages to a partner over your local Wi-Fi or by file, no server required • No ad networks, no tracking, no analytics SDKs

OwnFi is free, with no in-app purchases and no subscription tier. An optional Partner offers screen in Settings may list approved, labelled partner links. OwnFi does not attach financial data or personal identifiers; ordinary browser requests and partner privacy policies apply.

Optional network features: currency exchange rates for conversion, and AI model files you choose to download. Your financial data is never sent anywhere.

AI insights are educational only and are not financial, investment, tax, legal, or accounting advice.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.0.0 — 2026-09-26

OwnFi 2.0 plans your cash. It stays free, with no subscription, no account and no ad network, and nothing leaves your phone.

• Your cash plan — answer a few questions (the minimum you keep in chequing, your emergency target, money already set aside, the income and one-off costs you expect, and your priorities in order). OwnFi keeps the next 30 days of bills and spending aside first, then shares what is left across your priorities, each up to what it still needs. The Home card shows where the plan stands; tap it to see the full plan in the Advisor. • Your balances, confirmed — the plan asks you to confirm your balances are current before it shares anything out, flags balances more than a week old, and names an account it cannot convert rather than counting it as zero. • Goals — what each goal needs a month to arrive by its date, and when it arrives at a monthly amount you try. • Subscription review — mark the charges you still value and see what the others add up to a month and a year. Nothing is cancelled or changed. • Compare a what-if — stack a few changes (spend less in a category, a one-off cost, a goal contribution, an extra debt payment, a charge you stop) and see cash a year from now, the lowest point, and goal and debt-free dates against your current path. • Before you invest — cash left after your plan, whether emergency savings are covered, how concentrated your holdings are, and the questions on time horizon, losses and access to your money. No tickers and no picks. • Ask in your own words — "How much of my cash is not yet assigned?" is answered from your saved plan, and "Plan my cash" opens it. • Fixed: a balance read from a statement is now dated to the statement, not to the day you imported it, and importing an older statement no longer overwrites a newer balance.

Every figure is arithmetic on your own balances and answers. It is not a recommendation and not financial advice. Your answers are included in your encrypted backup and, if you use Family Sync, shared with your family; the balance confirmation stays on each device.

As always: no OwnFi server, only three optional endpoints (exchange rates, public ticker prices, model downloads you start), and everything financial stays on your phone.

### 1.9.1 — 2026-09-20

v1.9.1 starts with sample data, imports your first statement from setup, and fixes the bill calendar. OwnFi stays free, with no subscription and no ad network.

• Start with a look around — a fresh install opens with sample data first, and the last setup step offers to import your first statement before the Dashboard. • After your first import, one sheet — turn on the morning number (a 7:30 notification with what you can safely spend today, bills reserved; the amount shows only if you show amounts on the widget). • YNAB CSV export — Date, Payee, Memo, Outflow, Inflow, ready for YNAB's file-based import (Settings › Export). • Family Sync can send the app to your partner, and Privacy Proof can share the three-endpoint proof as text. • OwnFi may ask for an App Store rating once, after a moment of value — never at launch, never in sample-data mode. • Fixed: the bill calendar on the Bills screen wrapped at six days, so Sunday never held a date. Weeks are seven days again.

As always: no OwnFi server, only three optional endpoints (exchange rates, public ticker prices, model downloads you start), and everything financial stays on your phone.

### 1.9.0 — 2026-09-18

v1.9 encrypts your data at rest, follows the new iOS design, and captures more of your spending without you typing it. OwnFi stays free, with no subscription, no account and no ad network.

• Encrypted at rest — the on-device database is now encrypted with a key that lives only in your iPhone's keychain, and it is excluded from iCloud and Finder backups (use OwnFi's own encrypted backup instead). Existing data is converted in place the first time you open the app. • A look that belongs on iOS 26 and 27 — the tab bar, buttons and sheets use Liquid Glass and SF Symbols, sheets match the system's corner radius, and type is set in San Francisco with Dynamic Type. Reduce Transparency and Reduce Motion are respected. • Capture from bank and UPI app notifications on iOS 27 — the Shortcuts app's new "When a notification is received" trigger can hand an alert to OwnFi automatically. Settings › Apple Pay & bank alerts walks you through it. • Apple Intelligence now powers the advisor — a build issue meant earlier versions never reached Apple's on-device model, so every iPhone fell back to answers computed from your data alone. That is fixed: on iOS 26 and later the advisor uses Apple Intelligence with nothing to download, and if it is switched off or still preparing its model, the advisor and the Model Library say so and offer the Settings shortcut. • Receipts and screenshots read by Apple Intelligence — on iPhones whose on-device model can see images (iOS 27), OwnFi passes the photo to it directly instead of running OCR first. • Privacy blur now also covers screen recording and mirroring. • Faster — the Activity list is virtualised, month queries use indexes, and start-up skips migrations it has already done. Receipt photos and PDF pages are decoded at a bounded size. • Family Sync — nearby devices now identify each other with a PIN-derived tag instead of a hash of your email, and backup passwords are checked in constant time. • Fixed: Settings › Support & Feedback names your store on the Rate row and opens the right listing. • Fixed: the Gemma-4-E4B download in the Model Library pointed at a file that no longer existed. It downloads again, and a download that fails now says why instead of "the import was interrupted".

As always: no OwnFi server, only three optional endpoints (exchange rates, public ticker prices, model downloads you start), and everything financial stays on your phone.

### 1.8.1 — 2026-09-14

NEW
• Tax-year export — Settings › Export now produces a CSV for one tax year. Pick a jurisdiction (Canada, US, UK, India, Japan, Sweden, Singapore) or a plain calendar year; the UK's 6 April and India's 1 April boundaries are handled, credits keep their sign, and each row carries its currency and original amount. The file goes to your share sheet like every other export.
• Partner offers — an optional directory in Settings › Support OwnFi of brokers and tax-filing services in the country you choose. Every entry is labelled as a partner offer and opens in Safari through ownfiapp.com; OwnFi may earn a commission if you sign up, and nothing about you or your finances travels with the link. Programs are being onboarded, so the directory may be empty in your country at first. Switch it off any time.
• Privacy Proof now spells out how partner links work: no partner code in the app, no request of the app's own, nothing attached to the link.

IMPROVED
• CSV exports quote any cell that a spreadsheet could read as a formula, so an imported description can't run as one.

FIXED
• On a phone with no Face ID, Touch ID or fingerprint enrolled, the inactivity lock could appear with no way back in. The lock now uses your device passcode when there is no biometric, never engages on a device with no screen lock at all, and always offers "Sign in with password instead".

### 1.7.0 — 2026-09-11

NEW
• See everything you own and owe in one number — OwnFi now brings your accounts, investment holdings and debts into a single net worth, updated as you import. A history chart shows how it has moved since you started.
• Investments tab — holdings with quantities, average cost and current values, an asset-class breakdown, and a target allocation you set yourself. Prices come from public ticker quotes; only the symbol ever leaves your phone.
• Net-worth forecast — project 1, 3, 5, 10 or 20 years ahead from your own cash, investments, debts and monthly surplus. Three growth bands rather than one line, your debts retiring on schedule along the way, and the growth rate always shown with where it came from. It's a planning assumption, not a prediction.
• Goal solver — name an amount and OwnFi works out the monthly figure that lands on it by your horizon, and how far that is from where you are now.
• Investment Score — a 0–100 read of how your portfolio is spread, how much sits in one holding, how far it is from your own target, how readily sellable it is, and how current the values are. Each part shows its own points and the fact behind it. If there isn't enough to measure, OwnFi says what's missing instead of guessing.
• Card & Debt Health — a 0–100 read of your card payments, balances against their limits, and debt payments against income. It is OwnFi's own arithmetic over the statements you imported, not a figure from any credit bureau, and it is never presented as one. You can record a bureau number separately if you want to; it is kept visibly apart.
• Wealth alerts — a quote that has gone stale, a valuation you haven't updated in months, one holding growing into a large share, an account that no longer matches its positions, a maturity coming up, a drawdown from the peak so far. Each alert names the figure and the rule that raised it, and you can dismiss any of them.
• A weekly summary notification, and optional budget alerts when a category crosses its limit. Both off unless you turn them on; nothing runs in the background.
• The advisor can now answer wealth questions — your net worth, your allocation, how it has changed, where it's projected, your scores. Every number in those answers is computed on your phone before any language model sees the question, and the model is only ever allowed to reword the sentence around them.
• Statements from more of the world — country profiles for date order, currency and identifier format, so a statement written day-first is no longer read month-first. Japanese, Swedish, British and Singaporean formats are recognised even where a specific bank's layout isn't.

IMPROVED
• One formula for net worth everywhere — Home, Accounts, the cash forecast and Investments all read the same calculation, so they can't disagree. An investment account is counted either by its entered balance or by its positions, never both.
• Amounts OwnFi couldn't convert are named rather than quietly dropped. A total that leaves something out says so.
• A day with a missing exchange rate gets no snapshot rather than a wrong one, so your history never records a dip you didn't have.
