### 2/5 — NOT this App, that’s for sure

*2025-10-09, version 16.0.2*

I have this app on Mac and a different one on PC. This particular app is disappointing for several reasons, the first being dictionary comprehensiveness. At least 25% of the time, I search for words that it can not find. For example, lede, as in 'bury the lede.' The PC app contains the definition, and even the popular search engine brings up the information, going so far as to cite the OED and provide a link to the Oxford website page! Second, the high-school thesaurus quality. The number of results per word (synonyms and antonyms) is meager, offering a small number of alternatives, each of which is often a straightforward, familiar word. There are no deep dives or partial approximations. Finally - usability. The interface offers a radio button to choose between Dictionary and Thesaurus, but it provides results for Dictionary even when you select Thesaurus.
Many are unaware that the OED most of us think of is actually the abridged version. The complete edition spans many volumes. This database may be abridged, but even so, words like lede are included in the abridged version. As it stands, this app seems no better than Webster's with an Oxford logo. In some respects, I regret the purchase.

### 4/5 — The best dictionary

*2025-09-27*

I thank the Oxford for precious dictionary for international students

### 2/5 — Please add a setting to disable “shake to clear”

*2025-07-28, version 16.0*

This is not standard iOS behavior and makes it very frustrating to use the app while walking or in a moving vehicle

### 5/5 — Good explaining

*2024-02-22*

This app gives us a good set of words that explain what a word means and it even has a thesaurus. Double thumbs up

### 5/5 — Great Resource

*2023-12-24, version 15.0*

The best dictionary for UK English.

### 3/5 — Good intention but old look and feel

*2023-11-22, version 15.0.4*

I'd like to begin with commending the comprehensive nature of this dictionary and thesaurus—it truly is a one-stop resource for anyone looking to enhance their vocabulary and speaking skills. However, the aesthetic elements, such as the color themes (red for a thesaurus, for instance) and the font choice, seem outdated, reminiscent of early iOS applications. While I appreciate the dedication to maintaining the app and offering it at a one-time cost, the user interface could greatly benefit from a modern redesign. Take, for example, the Oxford dictionary app by MobiDict, which boasts a clean, user-friendly interface with appealing fonts and colors, focusing on essential features rather than an overload of rarely used ones. At the very least, an update to the font could help the app feel more current. I hope this feedback is received as constructive criticism, and I want to reiterate my appreciation for your consistent efforts over the years. Looking forward to hearing your response.

### 5/5 — quality of life!

*2023-11-11, version 15.0.4*

As both a reader and a writer I have many resources at hand, but none like the Oxford. So many times it has rescued me, surprised and delighted me, educated me, and set beyond and apart my journeys and experiences. It is one of my most prized possessions (and yes, I feel I possess it, and perhaps it, me, as with Tolkien’s Gollum and the ring).

### 5/5 — PRACTICAL AND COMPLETE

*2023-10-13, version 14.7.2*

It is a must for any intermediate student or above who is willing to master the language. I’ve been using this dictionary for many years now.

### 5/5 — A tip of the hat to Enfour

*2023-08-07*

Way back in the day, Oxford Deluxe was the first major purchase I ever made on the iPhone. Hats off to the developer for keeping this outstanding app updated for all these years. And now it’s available for free on the Mac for current owners. Thanks much!

### 3/5 — Stay away - after 3 weeks “total failure” to force you to buy again

*2023-02-23, version 14.0*

I bought an app called OED deluxe a couple years ago: worked fine, loved it, until a few weeks ago, kept getting “total failure” - the app would shut down and redirect to purchase another app. Cust service finally convinced me this was because my “subscription” expired (even tho this is supposed to be a one time purchase). But ok I went and bought it again. There were a couple apps: one with (In App) in the title (didn’t work, got refunded), and this one: this app worked for a few weeks and now AGAIN.

_______UPDATE FEB. 23, 2022 _____
I had removed all OED apps from all devices (as well as Am Heritage) which had the same problem. Following the developer’s response, I tried to redownload. Right now it’s working. I’ll be glad to have it back but am also wary that the issue may recur again.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — On MacBook

*2026-05-17, version 16.0.2*

This app does not work properly on MacBook. Please fix it.

### 1/5 — Avoid the Oxford Deluxe Dictionary

*2026-01-24, version 16.0.2*

Here are just two reasons why this app should be avoided: 1) You can't choose what type of font you want! An English dictionary where you can't choose the font! 2) This version includes a thesaurus, but you have to physically choose the thesaurus to see the results. In other words the app does not present the results of a searched word within one window. Instead you must choose dictionary and then thesaurus to see the results - every time! The app is also poorly designed. It does look as though it was developed in the 1980's and a developer just ported it over from a windows version. For the price the developers should have produced a much more functional dictionary/thesaurus. Avoid this app.

### 1/5 — The app is unusable.

*2023-11-08*

The app closes whenever I click the search icon or attempt to type a new word in the search box. It is u usable & I want my money back.

**Developer response:** That bug has been fixed.

### 1/5 — A Flat Tire!

*2023-02-28, version 14.0*

This dictionary will slow you down. I am so disappointed to have paid money for this app. In my opinion, it is so not worth it. How is it they are able to present such a Frankenstein monster of an app as DELUXE and not be chargged with false advertising? How much do you have to pay to get the full English language in a dictionary? I gave it two words: fakery, and ultracrepidarian. The search returned: No entries found. A free online search gave me 100% better results. I mean, like, $24.99 to get away from advertising and then you have to go online to find the words you want in the advertising jungle of the splinternet? OWE! REALLY?

### 1/5 — Oxford Deluxe dictionary and

*2023-02-24, version 14.0*

Like another who has reviewed I bought this app for a woping $50 something many years back. Now your asking me o purchase it again.
Everything you have provided me with about how to go about re downloading does not work.
$50 something more dollars down the drain !
I do not recommend this app.
What’s worse is I had all thesaurus and dictionary words saved in folders.

### 1/5 — Why can’t I update this app!

*2023-01-24, version 13.3.1*

This is extremely irritating. I purchased this app for 34$! Now I can’t get the update, and it is saying that I have to repurchase it. Terrible customer experience. The developers need to answer my email immediately. Unbelievable. Does one not understand how expensive the world is for the lower/ and medium classes right now. Not to mention a regularly hungry student!

### 1/5 — I already bought on my computer but I can't use on my phone now

*2023-01-23, version 13.2*

It says: Total Failure. and kept bouncing into the appstore on iphone.

### 1/5 — Bug in Display

*2021-10-27, version 11.5*

A number of entries have definitions in the font reserved for words placed within square brackets, the word "give" for example. It has been months since I first noticed this; please kindly fix it. Thank you.

### 1/5 — Double charged

*2021-07-22, version 11.3*

Double charged and refuse to refund by apple support, why?
Who can help me?

### 1/5 — Oxford Deluxe N4

*2021-06-02, version 11.2*

Do not encourage anyone to buy. The build-in keyboard keeps pulsating making it impossible to key in any letter or word. E-mail support will
lead you to thousands of questions:
1) Please produce the purchase order. Having bought it ten years ago I did not keep have one.
2)It then make you go through the purchase to do a screenshot and send it to them.
3)After step 2 they write again to ask you about version number. I told them I cannot open the app. How do I access the app version number. and edition.
4)I then never hear from developer anymore.

### 5/5 — My favorite app.

*2026-06-17, version 16.2*

I’ve used this app almost every day for the last 15 years. I’ve written countless essays and letters with this app as my partner. This is exactly what you need to accomplish your biggest goals and dreams; I mean this literally. I use it on my phone and my computer. Whenever I open Word, this app gets opened alongside. It’s truly indispensable and I’m deeply grateful. 🙏

### 5/5 — English

*2024-04-16, version 15.3*

Brilliant application.

### 5/5 — OED is a great resource for Medievalists

*2024-03-12, version 15.1*

I don't always use medieval sayings and words, but when I do, —the OED is my go to resource for sorting out my behoves from my begats.

I find my language capanilities expanding, because the OED is so precise in including the history and formaton of words, I become more enlightened in my own use of the English Lanuage.

Since I use MAC a lot, it pops easily in my Launchpad app, making this great resource available wherever I am.

I give the OED a 6 ouit 5 stars, for it's incredible support of language usage. Otherwse, I would have to drive arounf with either the 12 boook set, or some fiant 50 pound book in my trunk, and nobody wants to do that everyday.

It is one of the few apps I purchsed, and I contibue to het ypdates! So many good features.
